@SmokeDetector k

@hyper-neutrino Reports like this one containing only garbage should be given tp feedback, since we want to block that content.

@cigien Ah. Okay, thanks. (so, the same category as vandalism?)

Apr 9 at 19:54, by Makyen
@Xnero Like that. The above message from MS is the result of me clicking a "Validate all conditions" button for your account on MS, which causes the normal MS validation for that account to be run in the background. The flagging conditions are validated for all users on a periodic schedule, because it is a compute intensive task. So, your conditions would have been disabled anyway the next time it ran (once a day, IIRC). I believe it's also run for all users involved in a autoflagged FP.

@hyper-neutrino Yeah, basically everything that we want to block at the system level is tp. In the case of garbage posts, I would also blacklist the user, so tpu, but that's not as important. And if someone has already given tpu feedback, then you can just give tp, as it won't make a difference.

@Xnero Hmmm... That gives the wrong impression. I was intending to emphasize the part "The flagging conditions are validated for all users on a periodic schedule, because it is a compute intensive task. So, your conditions would have been disabled anyway the next time it ran (once a day, IIRC)."

7:06 PM
@cigien Ah. That makes sense, thanks. What does the naa feedback mean to the system then?

@Xnero As far as I know, your autoflagging conditions were disabled automatically (i.e. I didn't click any buttons)

Strange time for it, supposed to run at 2:00am UTC
Maybe it actually takes that long? :/

@Undo Taking 20 hours for the task would be ... not good. :;

7:14 PM
@hyper-neutrino That's a good question. NAA and FP are basically the same thing, as far as SD is concerned. Here's one expanation; there are others scattered across the transcript (and possibly somewhere in the wiki). I wouldn't worry too much about the distinction, but try to use the right one as far as possible.

Ah. So it's just to distinguish "perfectly fine" with "fine enough that SD doesn't care" to satisfy humans. Nice :)
okay, makes sense. thank you for the explanation

It's there historically to provide people a "not spam, but we should delete it anyway" feedback type

oh okay

If a user posts a lot of posts that get triggered on yet are FP, that means something's going wrong.
If a user posts a lot of posts that get triggered on yet are NAA, that doesn't mean something's wrong.
Not with the system anyway.

7:17 PM
@metasmoke ah, this would be tpu too? my bad i just figured it was really low quality and rather stupid/pointless
for stuff like that would i tpu- it and then flag it as NAA myself? or would it be considered actual spam

It warrants an NAA flag at least. Whether it's severe enough to be R/A is debatable, but it's possible to flag NAA yet provide TP feedback.

okay. i'll use that option in the future instead then

@Makyen Much closer to 16.5 hours. I'll eventually learn how to tell time. :;

@hyper-neutrino IMO that wasn't posted in good faith, so I would tp it. What flag you raise depends on the site, but in the case of ELU (where I hang out now and then) I'm pretty sure a R/A flag would be accepted on that. As Mast points out, providing feedback and flagging is pretty much independent anyway (although FIRE/etc lets you do both of them with one click).

Looks like he wanted to write "I would think evolic or Evil", then hit the answer length requirement and got irritated

7:24 PM
@cigien That makes sense. I guess if I'm really unsure about the site culture I can always just tp it on SD and then not flag it (or just not give feedback and let someone who knows deal with it). It does look like it wasn't in good faith though, so I agree with that. Only been to ELU a couple of times (IIRC).

Calling it NAA, at best

the comments under that post are funny, at least :p

@NikeDattani I don't remember what is was, but ask away

@DavidPostill Actually I was wondering how you and JourneyManGeek flagged the post (earned the citizen patrol badge) at exactly the same time, even though JourneyManGeek hasn't been in this room for a long time. Then I thought maybe there was something about it in the TavernOnMeta, but the question didn't seem to appear there at all. Then I found that the question was in TavernOnMeta but got moved to Chimney so that's why I couldn't see it.

@NikeDattani Ah, OK

@DavidPostill This was the post that you guys helped us remove: mattermodeling.stackexchange.com/revisions/… I find it quite bizarre though, that someone would go through that much effort, to actually research what LDOS and PDOS mean, and copy and paste the definitions of them from ResearchGate (but change the original text a bit) just a promote a blog about movie reviews that doesn't even seem financially lucrative?
Is it common to get this type of "intelligent" spam?
