@user12986714 Pinging a set group of people for reports like this is fine. However: Do not give any additional information outside the encrypted message. Period. You've been given multiple methods of transmitting information to us securely. Some of those you have verified as functional. Use them.
@user12986714 I know the urge to provide additional comments and help is strong, but ... just don't, unless you are using a secure channel of communication. It's not that we don't appreciate additional information, it's that such things need to not be communicated over insecure channels. It needs to be a habit to not do that.

@Makyen We can theoretically implement it at MS to make a watch/blacklist PR perfectly adhering to the blacklist guidelines :-P
@SmokeDetector There's another answer by this user on the same question, which is also trolling, but not enough to trigger SD.
one of the reasons I started Halflife was because I wanted to automate that but its scope expanded in all kinds of directions and now I think it will need refactoring before anything else
+1 for implementing at Halflife

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in answer, blacklisted website in answer, potentially bad ns for domain in answer, potentially bad keyword in answer (181): Is there a way to get e-readers to change endnotes into footnotes? by letskiller on ebooks.SE
@user12986714 Yes, theoretically, that's possible, and not toooo difficult. However, before people put work into automatically adding things to the watch and blacklists, I'd rather see work put into removing things from the blacklists. People are way to concentrated on getting things onto the blacklists, while thinking very little about removing them.
As my point has been whenever this sort of subject has come up: improve management of the entries we already have, then we can look at being more aggressive at getting things onto the blacklist, or even have a gray list.

If it's something that saves work that we're already doing, that's fine to do.

@RyanM clicking review will give you posts which need feedback
@tripleee I'm trying to find posts which match a specific criterion and don't have feedback (specifically, I want more complete data on a rule's accuracy)
@user12986714 I tried to modify content_source but that didn't do anything for the cases I tested with ... I was wishing there'd be a comment explaining what these two are for and why both are needed
06:08
fp- feedback received
@RyanM I don't think the UI lets you do that directly, probably possible in Blazer and/or GraphQL if you have access to those
or just search for your criterion, download the JSON, and then filter locally
@tripleee I don't - which does raise a question I've wondered about: what are the criteria for the core role?
(which I believe is what grants that access)
May 24 at 1:58, by Makyen
content is what's displayed in chat and includes having been processed from Markdown into HTML. content_source is the Markdown. That matters for things like regular expressions, where the content can have characters which would be recognized as Markdown and changed.

@user12986714 If I recall correctly (and remember that I last touched this code 2 or 3 years ago), we want to avoid calling content_source whenever possible for performance, since it makes an extra HTTP request

@user12986714 so hmm, I guess this is a bug, but how would it manifest?
@user12986714 I guess this means the first time you access it; once you have it surely you don't need another HTTP request to obtain it again
@tripleee So we still need to deal with sdc in !!/watch and a few other commands (i.e. the abstraction implemented is very leaky)
@tripleee Which I think is true, but we are trying to avoid the first HTTP request for some reasons I don't really know
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in answer (1): Polarised capacitor vs. unpolarised capacitor. Which to use when? by TheRealJoe on electronics.SE
@user12986714 I suppose we could fetch and normalize content_source as soon as we've verified that the command is valid
i.e. we make a potentially-unnecessary HTTP request for every command, which is a LOT better than a probably-unnecessary request for every single chat message
If we're doing that, we might as well strip out the command name too, so the command function receives just the argument string
actually, we could probably even do that parsing with the same lazy trick ChatExchange uses to fetch the content_source in the first place

@user12986714 For every chat message posted in a room SD listens to, SE sends Smokey a websocket notification containing the HTML-formatted contents of the message. In order to get the plain-text Markdown message (aka content_source) we have to make a separate request (to https://chat.<server>.com/message/<id>/history)
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad ip for hostname in answer (1): Open/Reopen dialog regarding Finder keeps popping up? by Guillaume Daudin on apple.SE
That extra HTTP request isn't an issue when we need the content_source, but Smokey listens in dozens of high-traffic rooms, so fetching the plaintext for every message would be very costly.
Now, ChatExchange does some magic: the first time you access the content_source field on a message object (or another field which requires scraping the history page), it goes behind your back and automatically makes that HTTP request. That's convenient, but it means we need to keep an eye on when we call content_source, since it's actually an HTTP request and not just a straightforward variable access.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in link text in answer, link at beginning of answer (112): Cannot enter check out date in China Visa itinerary Section 2.6 by Digital Hub on travel.SE
If anyone ever has a JSON file is of MS search results (here, named "results.json") and wants URLs for the ones with no feedback, the command to do so is jq 'map(select((.is_tp or .is_fp or .is_naa) | not)) | map("https://m.erwaysoftware.com/post/\(.id)") | .[]' results.json | sed -r 's/^"(.+)"$/\1/'
@NobodyNada This also has been known to cause bugs on occasion. For example, if the message is edited or deleted between parsing the command and accessing content_source, then you can end up with weird problems since content and content_source correspond to different text
