@Daniil Should be TP. Post was an attack on another user

1:27 PM
@Undo when you have spare cycles to do some DNS tweaks on your side and to coordinate with me on my side let me know, then we can get m.erwaysoftware.org working with an updated SSL cert too

Websites prove their identity via certificates. Firefox does not trust this site because it uses a certificate that is not valid for m.erwaysoftware.com. The certificate is only valid for redunda.sobotics.org.

until then it might start throwing invalid SSL if the cert expires.

Metasmoke DNS might be partially fubar - metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com is valid but m.erwaysoftware.org is not valid due to issues with DNS server handoff and negotiations. As a result, anyone trying to get to Metasmoke with m.erwaysoftware.org will run into some issues. We're working on fixing it, but this requires Undo to be online to fully fix.

LetsEncrypt has barred DNS updates at this time due to problems with failed attempts to update due to the m.erwaysoftware.com problems. As a result, we cannot make a request for LetsEncrypt updates at this time. So, m.erwaysoftware.com is broken until such time that Undo and I fix DNS delegation issues with it AND until LetsEncrypt removes the ratelimit.

@Makyen i think we can tell SD to adjust the MS link to use the full metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com URL but I remember we did a different change to shortlink for a reason I can't remember why
maybe chat length limits?

1:38 PM
@ThomasWard I'm sure that was part of it.

That's why good commit messages matter. :)

@Makyen think we can get by with making the thing use the longer link form for 8 hours? Or should we just leave it and make people read the starboard -->

@JohannesKuhn Yeah, but that requires actually going and looking at the commit message, rather than just making up a response from memory :)

@Makyen Work, yeah. I'm too lazy too :)

@ThomasWard We can change it. There's not much harm. We just get less why information.

1:40 PM
Can you use HTTP validation?

@JohannesKuhn nope.
@JohannesKuhn well, "nope" because of the LE Ratelimits

How often did you try?

once the HTTPS is up i can't circumvent it because it goes through my HAProxy loaded up to the max with security protections and WAF protections on the server
@JohannesKuhn auto tried 3 times, then me two.

@ThomasWard You may need to change the domain for MS in Osiris' config file and hard reboot.

@Makyen I think Osiris is using the long form because I'm an insane person

@Makyen i.e. @ArtOfCode or @Undo

Sounds good! Once you've finalized the interface that MS will use to get dumps, you can stick that in an issue and one of us will get around to it.

@thesecretmaster i think I've got the scp working now but i'm running the full dump script again
if SFTP fails there's no harm done
but Metasmoke will still need to populate the URLs automatically after the initial ancillary dump has happened
so that'll still be a cronjob, I just dont' knwo enough about the Ruby side of it to make MS pick up the on-server URLs
and we can bypass S3
that'll be a separate issue ticket once I get the upload-to-MS-server part working
so we'll know in about 10 minutes if that worked right or not

@Spevacus You are not a privileged user. Please see the privileges wiki page for information on what privileges are and what is expected of privileged users.

@Spevacus If you're interested in participating (we'd be happy to have you do so), it would probably be a good idea to start with reading an Introduction to Participating in Charcoal.

I'd ask for them but I don't really know what the barrier for entry is. I read up on the documentation regarding the general "Hey, if you have about 300 rep on at least one site and are fairly active on Meta, we're cool with you having them, for the most part."
I've almost 10k on Meta SE, and just under 500 on SO (though I contribute not-so-much there, I try to find questions to answer but... Eh. My programming knowledge needs to expand a bit before that)
