Makyen/EC2-linux: Executing automatic scheduled reboot.

@Undo @ThomasWard I'm not sure if MS' SSL certificate is set up to auto-renew at this point, but we are close to when it will need to be renewed. We had an issue at the time of the prior renewal, so I set a reminder.

@Daniil That pattern looks like it's already caught by Bad keyword in answer and Bad keyword in body; append -force if you really want to do that.

@Makyen Just out of curiosity, why won't <h3>feedback from <script>alert("a");</script>abc</h3> pop up an alert window?

@user12986714 In what context? How is it getting to the browser (i.e. what is inserting it into the DOM)?

@Makyen So basically MS did a great job preventing js injection; however, the problem is that why app/views/admin/user_feedback.html.erb, <h3>User Feedback for <%= @user.username %></h3> can protect from js injection.

@user12986714 So, it's something inserted into the HTML prior to the HTML being shipped to the browser. Correct?
@user12986714 I'd have to go through MS' code to see where the sanitation is being done, but I'm not that surprised to see that there is sanitation on the username input.

12:31 AM
@Makyen I think so

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev ccf58b8 (SmokeDetector: Auto watch of (?-i:M1SEMvu9ojE)(?#YouTube) by Daniil) (running on teward/Osiris, Python 3.6.9)

@user12986714 @Makyen Rails sanitizes html tags by default. You need to tell if if you don't want your text to be sanitized.

@user12986714 OK. Basically, the browser has little or no injection prevention for HTML that's delivered directly from the server as the page's primary HTML. There is protection in the browser to prevent JavaScript from unintentionally adding code. For example, all browser methods that add HTML text would render the code you provided, but the <script> element would be disabled and not run any contents, and no way for you to make that specific element runable.
@thesecretmaster That sounds like a very good way to do it.

Anything in <%= %> is sanitized by rails unless it's been flagged with the raw method.
Which we do use, in a few places, but obviously very carefully.

@Daniil (@Undo @ThomasWard @ArtOfCode) Your flag logs were cleared, because I'm an idiot. When @user12986714 asked for an MS account they used for testing to be deleted, I actually did it. And, I did it at almost the worst possible time of day wrt. when backups are made. The flag logs will need to be restored from backup, but we will have lost some more.
I did realize, about two seconds after clicking the nuke button, that I might have caused a problem. At that time, and again a while later, I did look at the flag logs to check for problems. When I checked them, there appeared to be no problems, so I did not report it, assuming the issue had been resolved, or that the user not having any flags resulted in there not being a problem.
However, it now appears that the problem was actually there and that I didn't see it for some reason (either the issue didn't exist yet when I checked, caching hid it, or I'm blind).

Makyen/EC2-linux: Executing automatic scheduled reboot.
[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started in standby mode at rev 2035be1 (SmokeDetector: Auto watch of fitwirr\.com by Makyen) (running on Makyen/EC2-linux)

has this community identified then worked to help any 3rd party automated code development projects which synthesizes SO posts which get answered by real people yet who's answers are then auto parsed to help speed up coding of their project ? sorta like outsourcing your dev team to us at SO
is there a more appropriate meta or chat room to ask the above question ?

@ScottStensland Each chat room here on Stack Exchange/Stack Overflow has a particular focus. Each room has a description which you can find at the top of the right-sidebar (browser), and/or on the room's info page (browser and mobile version). This room's description is a bit tongue-in-cheek, so I understand your confusion as to what goes on here.
This room's focus is on the Charcoal project, which is primarily about finding and eliminating spam and rude/abusive content in posts on all Stack Exchange sites. This is done primarily by evaluating reports generated by the SmokeDetector bot and taking action on the posts which those reports are about, when the post needs some moderation.

@ScottStensland I understand your desire to post your messages in a room that has a lot of recent traffic, but you should resist that desire. In most rooms, people tend to react quite negatively when someone comes in and asks about something that's not on-topic for the room, particularly if it's quite a bit off. I strongly recommend you read a room's description prior to posting and any FAQ or information linked from the description.
Overall, this isn't the right room for what you are asking about. You might want to try looking at the list of rooms on Stack Exchange Chat, and/or the list of rooms on Stack Overflow Chat. Those pages have a search function, which might help you find a room that's appropriate for what you want.

OK thanks

@ScottStensland As to your specific question, I'm not aware of such a project. I'm not sure which room might be a good place to ask. You could try asking about where you might ask on Meta Stack Exchange. Your actual question might be a reasonable question to ask on Meta Stack Overflow.
@ScottStensland no problem. I'm sorry we're not really the place to cover your inquiry.
