[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in body (1): why am i getting the same post data though i'm posting to different URL by rkhshm on stackoverflow.com

@Daniil Thanks. Is there anywhere where it says what the different reasons mean exactly? Some of them are obvious, but others not, for example I don't really understand what "Potentially problematic ns configuration in body" means (which is why I asked about that one), also looking through the list you linked to, in "Misleading link" it's not obvious what makes a link "misleading".

@DonaldDuck For ns configuration, the comment in code says "Check if the host name in a link resolves to the same IP address as the IP addresses of all its name servers."

@DonaldDuck Let me know the reasons you're confused about and I (or anyone else) can explain them to you. Or you can look at the code in findspam.py.

hi all /o
I've mod flagged this one earlier, before sd detected it: stackoverflow.com/a/62612688/2275490 this user has posted 8 nearly identical answers within one hour. It looks like they want to mainly promote their blog post, which they affiliate with, but do not really more than promoting their link
@Daniil should I write it like ^ this ?

@Daniil @Vickel Looking at that users history of positive participation and the contents of the medium post they're linking too, I actually think that those posts aren't spam. While they are self promotion, the linked medium post contains specific answers to the questions. This seems a lot more like a link only answer and worthy of a comment / edit than spam deletion IMO.

@user12986714 That might work, but I'm going to need the account name, or you will need to contact me in some way (e.g. follow me, initiate a chat, etc.).

oh, ok

It's a -100 rep penalty IIRC

@Makyen The account name is vzmvrbszvf(from prng). It should be registered today.

then it must have been a ban, as rep was >500

According to MS there are 7 posts that got deleted, so it'd be -100 per post, so that checks out.

@thesecretmaster got it, per post :)

iBug/Coral: Executing automatic scheduled reboot.

6:44 PM
@thesecretmaster While there are more lenient ways to handle it, what the user did does fit the definitions of spam for SO (over-promotion). The recent posts really did nothing other than direct traffic to their blog post(s), which, when you get down to it, is self-promotion/spam, even when affiliation is disclosed. If it was only one, two, or even three posts, maybe only educating the user would be better, but 8 is quite excessive.
At least in my opinion, the quantity of posts, how rapidly they were posted, and the complete lack of information in the posts other than a link to their blog, makes it clear their primary intent was to promote their blog (i.e. spam), not to give good answers on Stack Overflow/Stack Exchange. At least one of the posts was deleted as spam by the action of a moderator, so the moderators have been made aware of the situation and can directly address the issue with the user, if they choose.

@Makyen Ah, I didn't realize one of the posts was mod deleted. I agree that they were posted for the purpose of self-promotion and do fit the definition of excessive self promotion, just getting -700 rep and (probably) SpamRam'd seems a bit harsh for the offense, when a comment could've likely served the same purpose.

@thesecretmaster It might be a bit harsh, but that really depends on the user's reaction to corrective action. OTOH, I have a really hard time believing they had no idea that what they were doing was wrong. It's not like they were just browsing questions and happened to find questions which were moderately related to their blog post. To post 8 answers in 12 minutes, some less than 45 seconds apart, they had to intentionally search for such questions with the intent of directing people to their blog.

@Makyen That's true, I agree that they definitely intended to promote their post, I just think that their history makes me expect that they'd likely react positively to a correction. While maybe they should've known that is was wrong, I wouldn't be surprised if they simply weren't aware of that rule. It could easily be seen as a win-win, the user promotes their work and the asker gets a mildly useful link.
In any case, I think I agree with you for the most part at this point, thank you for taking the time to explain it to me.

@Vickel Do you plan on feedbacking here or just in SOCVR?

@Daniil well, I was thinking on both

CI on 9da6a8d succeeded. Message contains 'autopull', pulling...

user435118
@Vickel For feedbacking in SOCVR, you need to request privs in SOCVR separately

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev 9da6a8d (Makyen: Add SD privileges in Charcoal HQ for - 2629084 # Vickel -autopull) (running on teward/Osiris, Python 3.6.9)
Restart: API quota is 11209.

@Vickel I've added you to the privilege list for SD here in Charcoal HQ. You should run the !!/amiprivileged command to verify. It would be a good idea to read through the Feedback Guidance, SmokeDetector wiki, and SmokeDetector commands (in particular feedback).
(already mentioned) If you haven't already read it, there's an Introduction to Participating in Charcoal.
You may also want to look at the userscripts we have available (GitHub), as they can be quite helpful, depending on how you want to participate. For viewing, feedback & flagging in chat, I find FIRE and AIM to be the ones I use the most.
For flagging through the userscripts, your metasmoke account needs to be write authenticated with SE, which, if you haven't already done so, can be done from the authentication page and doesn't require you to also sign up for autoflagging, although authenticating is also a required step for signing up for autoflagging.

user435118
9:42 PM
@Vickel Makyen just added you ^ I’m sure he’ll post a message explaining the privs now

In addition, to enable manual flagging, the checkbox that says "Use my account to cast flags automatically" on this page also needs to be checked. If you have no entries in the "ID Site Count Flags Used Today" list at the bottom of that page, then autoflagging will still not be enabled, but manual flagging through the userscripts will be enabled.
Just so you know, we normally tell people when they are getting privileges that we practice the "ton of bricks" discipline method here: If you mess-up sufficiently, or consistently, we come down like a ton of bricks :-).
To quote ArtOfCode: "TL;DR: ton-of-bricks is mostly to say that we almost never need to enforce things because things enforce themselves through having a good community here. If it gets to the point that someone's enforcing something, something's gone badly wrong."
@Daniil grumble your interrupted my monologue. :)

@Makyen I can move the message to trash if you want?

user435118
@Vickel Congrats on getting privs, feel free to ask me or anyone else if you have any questions :)

@Daniil thanks I will, hope to be as useful here than in SOCVR

@Vickel tpu-, but, yes, that's probably where it comes from, or at least that's what I've usually thought of it as. OTOH, it could also mean "OK", as in "OK, you found a True Positive", given that from SD's POV finding spam is a good thing.

I'll go with the "kill"

@Vickel From our perspective, the thing to do with spam is kill it, but from SD's POV, and metasmoke's POV, spam posts are the good things (and are represented by a green check), whereas non-spam is bad and is represented by a red X. It does take some getting used to.

Same thing with my previous Meta.SE account. Looking back through the posts I made using that, many of them are rather embarrassing and not something I want associated with my current account

@SmokeDetector It would be nice, SD, if you told us what was actually triggering the build, not the commit which was made hours ago.
!!/watch- d(?:octo)?r[\W_]*+ehizele
!!/watch- ehizeleherbalhome(?:@gmail\.com)?
!!/watch-number- +2347089384319

@Makyen It would be nice if you told it to say that first
:)

get Streisanded

@Makyen wiki commit

@NobodyNada Why? If you really want that, then remove the already existing watch which is a special case of that regex.

@Makyen I just modified a wiki, if that makes a difference

@ArtOfCode Yeah, but I keep clicking on the commit link to see what changed. :)

heh, yeah

user435118
Not sure why it didn’t link to the page I modified though

I think we couldn't find a way to link the relevant changes when we built that in, or something

11:48 PM
@Makyen ah, I didn't see the existing watch (it's later than the latest MS report)

@ArtOfCode Are you talking to me?

@Daniil the conversation at large

But these things do point to something. In my opinion, there should be a way to make an automatic watch or blacklist privately in case you fear that you will be retaliated against for making the request.

user435118
@gparyani I disagree, there must be a reason for a user making that request. Not just out of the blue

11:56 PM
@gparyani Even in a worst-case scenario, an admin could log in to GitHub using SmokeDetector's account (for anonymity) and manually add the request to the watchlist
