@tripleee - Doing a whois watsonplatform.net says that the owner is "not disclosed", which seems odd. I don't know why it wouldn't say IBM - some sort of secret? --- But it does appear to belong to IBM, judging from the Watson API Docs. Perhaps the solution is not that having that URL on that list legitimizes the others, perhaps the solution is to put watsonplatform.net on a different list; or not on any list, simply delete the
entry.

@Rob we can't choose whom IBM chooses for their hosting; if they have a server in that ASN and it's mostly spam, there will be some FPs

Rob
OK.

are you in Teams? IIRC there is a post which explains this in more detail
SoftLayer is in fact an IBM company according to their company presentation, so makes sense for IBM to use them for Watson hosting
but they apparently have a lot of customers of, ahem, variable quality
which will be true for any large provider, but if we don't see a lot of FPs for a listing, that's what we should at the very least watch
we used to have watches for Namecheap and GoDaddy who definitely have a lot of problematic customers, but the number of FPs on legitimate customers of theirs was untenable
the ASN is a very large hammer

Rob
Too bad we don't have an exclude command to remove them from the list as far as we are concerned. Some of the other sites (based on the tags) seem to be 'a bad bunch' but thinking (listing) IBM in with the rest doesn't provide us with useful information (and thus an FP). Would excluding IBM involve altering our code?

I have a PR for listing on individual IP addresses which should offer a lot more precision but potentially also a lot more work to maintain it

Rob
12:37 PM
OK. In the Job jar.

for this particular netblock, probably the way to go
I'm like this close -> <- to just merging the PR myself because that's the only way to actually demonstrate its value, and it has some useful refactoring of the ASN and NS code too
but it's been rotting for over a month so I need to clean it up before I do anything else with it

Rob
Yes, somethings are by default legitimate (baring hacking, rouge employee, etc.) - A means to exclude would be a good feature.

in very brief, the IPv4 space of on the order of billions of IP addresses is split up into around half a million Autonomous Systems, primarily to make routing possible

Rob
I'm hoping to be able to by a computer in the next 6 months and be able to help. I don't want to try on my phone. I'm waiting for PCIe 4 motherboards and EPYC on 7nm, so I won't be waiting too long, fingers crossed.

but the AS number provides a good approximation of network ownership, too
and of course with IPv6 this is still necessary, though I don't have any clue as to what a routing table for IPv6 looks like
@Rob "rouge" as in Khmer? (^;

Rob
12:45 PM
It is true that others on the same network could interfere/takeover, but we can only hope that IBM has a security section that would reroute. It was a poor choice for them to pick that provider.

like I wrote above, the provider is IBM
or actually a company they borged some years ago
2013 by quick googling

Rob
rogue

but yeah, outside of any particular lookup, it would be useful to have a facility for saying "this particular domain is fine, we don't want FPs on this"

fp- feedback received

Rob
12:48 PM
@tripleee True. I plus one your PR. (Is there a way to actually plus one it?).

nah, PRs don't really work like that, but thanks for the encouragement

Rob
Sigh, another PR ... :D

you can thumbs-up on a comment in GitHub but the final decision to merge something is with the code owner
like I said, I have the privileges myself, but this feels significant enough to merit some discussion before I go ahead

Rob
Provide the URL and I'll comment 👍
I don't mind the discussion, just wanted to bump the idea.
We get a few of those FPs, we don't need them - other times the info is useful when making a decision, especially if everything is tagged with (generally) unwanted (here) things.

@DManokhin It doesn't do autoflagging directly in response to the feedback that arrives. looks like we missed a path :)
probably still possible to set up manually with settings and conditions, but OCS is kinda important

I'm not going to be at a dev env until tomorrow at the earliest, so can't look until then. But if you do that you should also, look at my PR and add to that.

which PR?

The one about token migration
Let me look

I'm not back at dev until Monday earliest, so I'm kinda unlikely to look at things, but wilco

so...
@DManokhin Where did you get to?

#547
@ArtOfCode If only I'd finished redis logging :(

@thesecretmaster that thing looks fancy
oh, that's the other request I meant to make: can we see more than 10 logs/page? Maybe customizable, maybe paginated, something like that

@ArtOfCode Yeah, that's just view side. Did that for privacy, similarly to the 1k line limit we have now.

7:53 PM
meh, that line limit is more for the page not being ridiculously slow

Pretty sure @Undo said it was also in part for privacy

if you have that level of access you can already get most of the data that's gonna be in there other ways anyway; either you're trusted enough to have that, or you shouldn't have the access

Some sanity checks on history access are nice to have just in case something does go nuts and writes bad stuff to the logs. Limits the potential damage, if only a bit.

hm
sudden thought
where do you get request params from, @thesecretmaster? Before or after the param filter takes out password and code and token params?
