@Mithrandir What advantage do they gain from having Smokey in there if the reports are just going to be deleted after 2mins, deleted or not?

@angussidney If people are around, it gets noticed and deleted. If people aren't around, then it'll be deleted before anyone sees the message and the message is redundant
IMO periodically moving em out manually is a better solution

@thesecretmaster no point in having dev permissions without admin permissions
well, I guess, but it's not like admin permissions let you screw anything up worse than dev permissions
@thesecretmaster Probably won't get anything from prod logs on a Cap issue; they're completely separate.
@Undo Was looking for logs for something else, not cap. I wanted the full prod logs because I needed further back than the last 1k lines.
Those logs are kinda scary; I don't trust that they're nicely censored. I prefer being a gate to mass-log stuff.
What's the yarn package that needs installed?
@Undo K, that's what I thought, then Art said it was OK.
@Undo tagging. But really a yarn/npm install should go in the cap deploy process.

EC22 upgrading to 18.04.1... let's see how terribly this goes
@Undo Can we cache the bundle on travis for faster deploys?
13:28
Definitely could if you could figure out how
Don't even need smarts about it, just need to cache the whole workspace
> You have to download a total of 264 M. This download will take approximately 33 minutes with a 1 MBit DSL connection and about 10 hours with a 56k modem.
cache: bundler
Totally apart from those being entirely useless measurements at modern speeds, this is EC2:
well that's too easy
13:29
> 264 MB downloaded in 6s.
@ArtOfCode I love my 30MB/s transfer perf to S3
This is even better, somehow. Probably cached super close to the hardware
@Undo "Command "webpack" not found" from travis
well it's getting the updates from Amazon's mirror of the package repos, so those are almost certainly mirrored in every EC2 datacenter
well that seems worse
cap rollback?
Oh wait no
Also, why don't we have historical logs from travis?
13:32
because it's the same job every time, just restarted
Yes, but why do we do that?
yeah, it's technically rebuilds.
Logs are good
because the deploy script is its own repo, so without making another commit to that repo for every deploy we can't get a new job for it
Because it was the easiest thing to do. There was something crazy about starting new builds programmatically
13:34
@ArtOfCode Seems like travis pulls in MS and the other repo and runs a sh script from the other repo. Could easily also be parented to MS, no?
There's a bit of security there; the other repo is there so I can hold server secrets without exposing them to all MS contributors
Travis lets me put secrets in metasmoke-deploy that no one else can see. I can't do that without a repo I own
[ metasmoke-deploy ] deploy started by Undo

J F
J F
@thesecretmaster Commentary on the tagging library: you generally don’t need to check in the node_modules directory — package.json and package-lock.json/yarn.lock (optional) are all you need to recreate the dependency structure.
The best practice for npm modules is to assign something to module.exports (or a key thereof since it starts out as an empty object) so you can do const foo = require('./bar') to retrieve the value of module.exports. (you can also do this with the export and export default keywords if you’re transpiling the code.)
@ArtOfCode For domain tag review... is the add button supposed to redirect you to the domain tag page?
J F
J F
Also, I’m not sure what you’re using webpack.config.js for since you don’t have webpack as a dependency in your package.json or use it in any of the npm scripts.
You could probably get away without webpack by instructing users to manually import 'tagging/index.css' in their code, or bundle it some other way.
@JF I think I put it in because MS complained without it.
J F
J F
Check out Prettier and Rollup too :)
@thesecretmaster very strange. Could that be because you have the import statement in main.js?
16:06
