How does Smokey push to/pull from GitHub? Via HTTPS or SSH?

Either works

9:19 AM
Doesn't pushing via HTTPS require credentials from input?

Thomas uses SSH for his instances, whereas typically Smokey is designed to use HTTPS, ultimately either works
@iBug the GH creds are stored in the config file

@angussidney If you push to https://github.com/user/repo, doesn't Git ask for cred from terminal input?

@Makyen Chrome, Mac.

Hello @SmokeDetector ... who's your keeper?

tpu- by Makyen

I have a list of ~1000 S.O. user profiles that obviously have no purpose except spam, and not even good ones. (another 300 SuperUser, 150 ServerFault, 50 Math, etc). There's links to porn, drug dealers, escorts, gambling - and a disproportionate number of Black Magic dealers. I decided against posting in MSE ...but was told perhaps Smokey would be interested? ...for testing or whatever? Maybe have a contact to get em all nuked?
It's just a simple SEDE query comparing # of links in the profile to rep & when it was last used & for how long, etc. 11,000 links in 947 profiles, and half of the links are in the first 150 on the list.

Is their spam not getting picked up by Smokey?
Out of interest

not sending spam... but there's thousands of very inappropriate links sitting there, likely google-able

10:24 AM
Does Smokey check profiles?

@bertieb Smokey doesn't check profiles.

I'm still trying to figure out if the legendary Smokey I keep hearing about today, is human.... so I don't know what he/it is picking up.

@Makyen I misinterpreted the original message- I thought there were profiles of users sending spam (sorry for multiple beeps but the typos bothered me)

That's understandable.

profiles that exist only to advertise links. Example

10:26 AM
@bertieb I know how it goes.
I was going to edit that ^ as many times as possible, but...

I agree that list should be dealt with, but I personally do not know the proper way of action here.

@BaummitAugen No, but Bhargav has a bot that does.

@Bhargav ?

@ashleedawg Well, it would be good to get them deleted. There's been some talk by various people about having some automatic checks. The only people that can deal with user profiles are moderators or SE employees.

@ashleedawg A mod on SO.
Also, a leading member of the SOBotics project.

Q: What is the policy on destroying users with very spammy profiles but have not posted spam yet?

MithrandirA little bit of background first: Over on Puzzling.SE, we've been nuking users that look very spammy, before they've had a chance to post anything. It began with posts like this, which advertised watching things online and stuff. So then we (I'm not a mod there, I just pinged them with links) st...

Hum, no "report inappropriate content" on profile page :-\
I could swear there was one...

@Makyen Yeah - and this list is just a drop in the bucket - but figured someone somewhere could use some sample data. (Presumably when people google "black magic dealers in London" their link comes up higher in search results because it's sitting on an SO profile?)
@bertieb First thing I checked. I'd nuke em personally if i could, with a smile :)
some of the links are pretty nasty

@ashleedawg Profile inks are rel="nofollow", so they don't benefit from it directly

Well, enough experts here; I'm out again. Cya! o/

Presumably, only from people going to the profile page, then following a link from there

@bertieb Ah I guess Spammy would've been a better word choice than Spam :-)

I've tried assembling lists before (e.g. gist.github.com/superplane39/701007f35b8d1d287e47d329ff011bfa), but profile spammers aren't high priority.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Offensive answer detected, toxic answer detected: how to open terminal with firefox? by rabbit user on stackoverflow.com
tpu- by Shree

I guess Mith's linked Meta post kinda covers it- spammy profiles seem like the kind of thing that should be cleaned up, but if there isn't a policy against it it becomes harder to justify
(unless they start spamming the QAs later, as some did in that example)

@Mithrandir Thanks for the link. I'm still unclear though - seems that (like a few things) since there's no official policy, it gets put on the (highly occupied) back burner?

It seems messy (to me) to have a bunch of profiles for otherwise inactive users which contain a wall of links, but I guess it's SE's database and theirs to decide

@ashleedawg Right.

10:37 AM
@Undo Regarding this message (available list of spam SO profiles): Do the SO mods want the list? Should the SEDE query be forwarded to Shog9 for use on other sites?

Heh, I just pinged Bhargav in another room as well :)

@Mithrandir Puzzling & Literature actually have zero on my list... good job! As i said the logic's far from perfect, but I figured the 1000 on SO - many 2 years old with no activity since the day they were created - is a bit excessive.

Nuke all teh thingz
But as told ya @ashleedawg that's not an easy subject

wasn't exactly a complex query or anything I was seeking, just a bunch of garbage i that got in my way while querying something else unrelated.

I don't really wanna waste any more time on it. Doesn't matter to me one way or the other; when I'm looking to buy some black magic, I don't come to SO...

What query are you using? Gareth's?

10:43 AM
mine
slapped it together, nothing special. Could put more thought into it and find a lot more but already have 18 projects on the go :)

'cause I use data.stackexchange.com/puzzling/query/677656/…, it's not perfect either

Same idea, mine has a couple more criteria and fancy input boxes. :-) Well maybe I'll just leave my query link here and perhaps someone could star it, or point it out to "whomever"
