if that would be the case a spam flag on this would be valid stackoverflow.com/a/24675826/5292302
> If you study the examples on itextpdf.com, you'll find that some of them will get you very close to a solution.
Obviously that answer by founder of itext should not be spam flagged
@PetterFriberg I don't even recognize iText. That answer needs disclosure.
@Undo I would agree with @PetterFriberg that it's happened (very rarely) that a post was inappropriately nuked. I feel it's (at most) rare when this happens. I only vaguely recall any that shouldn't have been deleted at all (vs. nuked). As he's mentioned he's done, I've custom-flagged a couple which I've felt were inappropriately nuked in order to request that the spam flags be cleared.
More common are edge cases which do get caught, in one way or another, prior to being nuked and people have a (brief) discussion here (maybe in another room) as to the appropriateness of red-flagging that specific post. This usually results in quick resolution, a consensus and flags ether retracted or applied. The more common thing is to determine that red-flags are justified, fairly often due to the OP posting yet another such Q or A.
Yeah, so no problems.
00:14
and a few other 100 @Undo there is direct guidance on meta with Bruno as example
Link
he does not need to add attribution... but I need to find the link..
Would someone mind linking me to the original post which started this discussion?
@PetterFriberg I agree with Undo on this one. It needs disclosure. However, as a non-moderator, I would have first left a comment for the user that disclosure was required and could they please edit it in. If that doesn't happen in a couple of days, then I'd flag (with a custom flag).
@Undo I will search for it tomorrow, I knew about this case because of meta, so I'm pretty sure there is an example with him...

how do I see if a specific post was Metasmoke flagged or not?
i forget :/
@angussidney This is the MS post. The request for opinions is here. The request states that there was an earlier discussion in SOBotics (I haven't looked for it). @PetterFriberg and I disagree which side of the line this particular post falls on. I believe we both agree that there is a line, but not where the line is.
00:22
@ThomasWard there will be a little flag icon in the top left of the post
okay let me rephrase that
I have the site link, not the MS link
how do I determine if it's got an MS report with or without autoflagging
@ThomasWard That depends on where you're looking. If you're looking at the MS post page then autoflagged posts will have a flag in the top left prior to the title, which you can click to get more detailed info.
realized after I asked I spoke wrong
@ThomasWard this will convert the site link to the MS report: charcoal-se.org/ms-urls
I'm sure there's also a userscript which does it
@ThomasWard Then you can navigate to a url like: https://metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/posts/by-url?url=[URL without "https:"] (i.e. use a protocol-relative URL).
00:25
The SIM userscript here should work if you're able to see the post itself
@angussidney This works. I grabbed that userscript as well.
00:39
Okay, my opinion on that post: at first glance, it looks like your regular spammy post. 'I think this site is useful <link>'. At second glance... it still looks spammy. The author is definitely affiliated, and they're posting an answer to a well-visited question which already has 12 answers (typical tactic by spammers who just want an SEO boost, but don't know that SE links are nofollowed).
The affilliation isn't disclosed, and it's not like they simply forgot to say 'my post' - that would require the sentence to be totally restructured
fp- by Makyen
@angussidney That's basically what I said, but I used a lot more words. :-)
If the author wasn't clearly affilliated, I would go NAA. But to me, a (bad) NAA answer which meets any of the criteria for spam is spam.

Project Pluto was a United States government program to develop nuclear-powered ramjet engines for use in cruise missiles. Two experimental engines were tested at the United States Department of Energy Nevada Test Site (NTS) in 1961 and 1964. == History == On January 1, 1957, the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission selected the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory (the predecessor of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's, LLNL) to study the feasibility of applying heat from nuclear reactors to ramjet engines. This research became known as "Project Pluto". The work was directed...

@Undo Yes.

@Makyen You could also select 3rd
01:14
@WELZ I already tried. It doesn't permit it.
What happens if we both get the exact same amount of votes?
@Makyen It just switches to the 3rd vote.
(1) won't happen, (2) They'd probably take both.

It's also possible that STV would flip a coin.
@WELZ Yes. It doesn't permit you to also select 3rd.

If both candidates are that well qualified, I would expect CMs to just take both. You get two mods, everyone's happy, and it doesn't take much time.

storage costs?

@tripleee yes especially on linux

FR: A Filter For Posts That Have Almost Every Word In Title Case And Mention Japan. Reason Is This Spam RPG Stack Exchange Is Getting Which Is Frankly Confoundingly Pointless: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/…
Alternately could someone point me to how I could add such a filter myself? I'm familiar with Python, but I could do with being pointed to where I should aim to add such a filter.
07:52
@Videonauth how is the regex dependent on what platform you're on?
@Videonauth . (without further options) doesn't match a newline, but the reason is often that you actually want to avoid matching across a paragraph boundary
@tripleee not dependad but in linux you have .. for your parent directory so guess you do rm .*
@doppelgreener findspam.py has a bunch of custom reasons, I don't think there is anything very similar to yours though
@Videonauth regex is different from shell wildcard (glob) syntax
which will then remove the directory complete and all what is above in the tree
@tripleee linux shell syntax in many many cases uses regex matching
@Videonauth no.
try for example apt-cache search .
will list all packages
07:54
that's not shell syntax, that's apt-cache search syntax
grep uses regex too but the POSIX shell has no regex support and extended shells like Bash and Ksh have limited regex facilities
@tripleee Well, /g-suite/" will get most of them, (without the " there's a known low-use match to a Google blog post (8 hits)). BOL7 gets those which don't have /g-suite/", but has 2 hits on SO (1 is clearly more spam; the question kind-of asks for it, but that could be edited out of the question). The other match could be eliminated by not matching in code blocks.
!!/blacklist-keyword /g-suite/"
@Makyen ^ thanks!
@tripleee Blacklisted /g-suite/"
CI on 9c29450 succeeded. Message contains 'autopull', pulling...
@tripleee Thanks, that's helpful. It looks like I should add a method to root out that spam and then link it up as a reason in FindSpam.
[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev 9c29450 (SmokeDetector: Auto blacklist of /g-suite/" by tripleee --autopull) (running on teward/Solar Flare)

@doppelgreener watch is case-insensitive, otherwise you could experiment with something like `!!/watch (([A-Z][a-z]*\W+){3,}([a-z]+\W+)?)Japan
You might not want to blacklist g-suite, it's a legitimate product that has 1000 matching legit posts. Some of those say "G Suite", some say "G-Suite".
@doppelgreener this is with slashes and a trailing double quote, Makyen just looked into it
oh, i see, you're blacklisting a URL particle
fantastic
I backed out my watch on just g\W?suite a little while back
@tripleee wise choice haha
