one way to avoid overloading Metasmoke is to fetch the entire posts archive and run locally

@tripleee That's what I'm thinking of.

11:43 AM
but I didn't want to do that because then what's the point of having a central archive with a query API
stabilizing Metasmoke would earn you an immediate gold star from me but that's a pretty touch challenge to even specify properly, let alone then actually implement
and it's Ruby so if you're trying to learn Python here, that's not a good fit

My god...
I guess I wouldn't touch so much more new programming languages in a few years it it's not for Stack Overflow.

the Helios effort would obviously be nice to finish but I have no idea where Andy and Quartata are with that and whether there is a way you could help them out

@tripleee Surely a bug.
I saw at least one per day on average in Tavern on the Meta.

11:53 AM
I think I have a branch in my fork of SmokeDetector where I tried to refactor chat so you could have it use a different set of rooms for testing but of course that's not going to be very useful after chat got revamped
maybe it would be easier to do that now though

BTW, is 1446 OK to merge?

@Magisch uh, no? I think you misunderstand the question (or maybe I do)

AIM adds it.

@iBug if we are still throwing around simple ideas for somebody who wants to contribute something, what happened to the "title begins and ends with slashes" idea?
I thought we had a PR or something but I can't find it

@tripleee I merged it

and some people were toying with SQL queries on SEDE to see if it would work and I think the conclusion was yes
@ArtOfCode I almost guessed, I'm just not finding it
was it called something odd?

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad NS for domain in body, bad keyword in body, bad keyword in title, blacklisted website in body, link at end of body, +2 more: Alpha Force Testo : Increase Your Testosterone Level by alphaforcetesto on askubuntu.com (@ThomasWard @quartata @TetsuyaYamamoto)

oh I just didn't search back far enough, the GitHub issues are apparently sorted by creation age, not recent activity
@ArtOfCode thanks

@Glorfindel also Halflife shows the total weight when it reports a post because by then, Metasmoke has processed it

like that

!!/test /aqfhzimo, qmiogezofupzjm, kfnqeu, fxqefz/

> Title starts and ends with a forward slash
----------
Title - Position 1-43: /aqfhzimo, qmiogezofupzjm, kfnqeu, fxqefz/

@ArtOfCode we were talking about Helios, apparently this gist.github.com/AWegnerGitHub/…
@ArtOfCode but even if we can't have the weight maybe fix it so it doesn't drop the MS link if the reasons list and the title together are really long
^ as something for iBug maybe to look into

12:38 PM
@ArtOfCode In the "Work to do" section of the helios repo it says that we haven't yet got a unified response model for responses to querys onto helios

J F
@tripleee :+1: MS link > user link.

@JF No, user link > MS link.

MS link > SmokeDetector link

I'll have enough time in late January and early February for big jobs.

J F
@Mithrandir Why? You can see the user from MS.

12:42 PM
As of now I can only do trivial fixes for various reasons.

J F
@Glorfindel :+1:
But it would probably be easier to remove a reason to make space. One of the userscripts puts all the reasons back IIRC.

@JF AIM did that (IIRC) but it's broken since MS API v2.0.

@JF yeah, that I think was the consensus previously too, it should not be hard at all to simply just not remove the MS link and instead maybe truncate the title if it's really long
user link is IMHO rarely useful but if it's e.g. wingding that's something you don't want to miss
@iBug I don't think this is a big challenge but sure, just throwing things around

@tripleee Yeah, for 8 years I've learnt programming all on my own by copying and modifying sample codes found online and observe the difference.

but even just creating a ticket to collect what seems to be at least a rough consensus would already be useful

12:47 PM
This is probably a good stuff to start with.

@iBug good luck then! (-:

Why is this FP?

we should properly have a quick howto for running simple tests on Smoke Detector locally to help new contributors but it's not too hard
I was very frustrated when I first started but Art was very patient with me

@iBug Because it's the correct answer to that question. It's not a good answer but not abusive either.

@tripleee Review audits. Haha just joking.

@AJ properly SOCVR material I guess, was this reported there?

A J
This should not be reported

12:53 PM
Then we should blame the question.

A J
but isn't it the exact copy of already existing answer?
I am asking if it should be flagged or left as is.

Probably a VLQ is the maximum.
I'm taking a rest. See you tomorrow (CST).

@AJ if it plagiarism (is it? I didn't see the link) you should mod flag it.

@SurajRao It was this answer, while it doesn't add anything new it doesn't look like a direct copy of the other answer, although might have just come from a doc page: stackoverflow.com/a/48113125/1599751
