@AjayBrahmakshatriya it's case insignificant which is actually a problem sometimes -- for this case (for instance) I would like to be able to specify case significant, but there is no facility for doing that
I have an issue on Github open about this actually

@PetterFriberg apparently not. We could watch it, though, or add it to the 'offensive' filter.

11:25 AM
@SmokeDetector I'm thinking fp, all the previous hits on coderinme were from a single user name

@tripleee In that case cant a watch be placed on the user id instead of name?

@paper1111 the context in which the blacklist gets pulled in already sets flags etc so you can't set local flags for an individual snippet (or Python doesn't support that ... I'm not entirely clear)

@PetterFriberg also, a lot of people are using it for distraction during development

@AjayBrahmakshatriya watch is just free-form text regex, it would not be hard to watch user id:s but I don't think we need that very often

@AjayBrahmakshatriya that's true but if your use case is running your own smoke detector ... It's so easy to create a new user or post anonymously that I fail to see the need to work on this, unless you have a particular use case which isn't currently supported?

@tripleee I meant between the present SD instances. And I agree, I don't think ability to watch a single user doesn't really make sense. Cool. .
@tripleee one question regarding the repo structure - Why are commits which add new users to privilege list merged into master? Shouldn't they remain on deploy?

@AjayBrahmakshatriya we work on master always, master gets merged to deploy when it is actually deployed
so that deploy can roll back to an earlier commit if the latest merge breaks it, I imagine

But then the repo gets tied to this instance and deployment. If some one wants to fork the repo, he would also get all the config information with it.

@AjayBrahmakshatriya I agree that it's problematic, there are some things which are quite impossible to do in a dev instance the way things are arranged at the moment

11:38 AM
Is there a clean branch which has only code and over the time collected patterns?

testing the git module being a particular pet peeve of mine
@AjayBrahmakshatriya nothing is properly "clean" here /-: your best bet I think is the master branch if I understand where you are going

@AjayBrahmakshatriya no. With so much charcoal, everything is bound to get dirty :P

if you want to run some experiments locally without attaching to a chat room, there is an option in nocrash.py to do that but it's still not quite as detached from production reality as I would sometimes like

@Glorfindel Ha ha! Perhaps we can write a script that cherry picks all the commits that are not user configuration related on a separate branch so some one can start there own instance and we won't be automatically privileged on it!

I have probably half a dozen little Python scripts which pull in some modules and run a limited test on a few samples but pretty much everything ends up pulling in globalvars anyway and there you are with the metasmoke warning and possibly some git stuff happening under the hood

tpu- by Glorfindel

@AjayBrahmakshatriya running an instance is not a very privileged thing, having it attach to the chat room as yourself (or a sock puppet of yours) is generally well tolerated here
the crown jewels are in metasmoke and you need a separate key for that

@tripleee Hmmm... Ideally globalvars.py should have been a separate sub repository all together

it would be nice to have a test instance of Metasmoke to run against but I have not had the temerity to set that up myself
@AjayBrahmakshatriya "ideally" there should not be global variables
there have been a couple of partial refactorings to make some of the logic better encapsulated into proper objects (posts and to some extent chat rooms) but we need tons more of that
I have a halfway check-in of moving the chat room configuration out of globalvars into a separate file and behind a proper class but I never tested it properly github.com/tripleee/SmokeDetector/tree/chatroom-objects
it would get rid of chatexchange_extension.py but looks like I never even committed that

@tripleee Seems like a massive task. Still this would be part of the main repo/branch right?

11:51 AM
@AjayBrahmakshatriya yeah, though putting the users in a configuration file could be a logical next step

J F
@tripleee There’s an API for getting files out of a GitHub repo. This endpoint gets you the list of files in the SD repo. You can load the url key of the file in the list that you want to download it in Base64 format.

J F
11:57 AM
@tripleee That’s the stuff you see in /notifications on GitHub.com.

@JF hmmm, maybe the webhooks route is more promising then

@tripleee You can set up hooks for all the instances. Whichever is running will catch it.

there was discussion of goals at some point but I don't think they were properly put down anywhere either

@AjayBrahmakshatriya we originally planned to have separate master/deploy branches for increased security back when we set up autoflagging, but we never actually followed through with it so that's why our repo structure looks a bit weird. You might want to see the proposed system architecture diagram: i.stack.imgur.com/CCh9G.png
@tripleee currently it's a little dead. I used to be a strong advocate of rewriting over refactoring, but after seeing the amount of work required.... I don't have the motivation I used to

@tripleee Yes, owner/contributor with write access.

@AjayBrahmakshatriya I am a contributor with write access but not a project owner

12:06 PM
You could ask Art to set it up. IIRC it's in the settings view

@tripleee I guess then you need to be owner. You can check on your own repo if it satisfies the needs. I don't see an option to look for a bunch of files.

@angussidney not yet sure exactly what to ask for yet but yeah, I think that's the way to go

12:15 PM
@angussidney mmmm but would we perhaps want this to be centralized somehow so that various components can be set up to receive a notification from, say, Metasmoke or some other happy community place?

If a MS dev were willing, they could set up some sort of arrangement where it recieves GH webhooks, and then sends it down a websocket to subscribed halflife instances

@angussidney something like that, yeah

There is already an event that gets sent down the smokey websocket whenever deploy is updated, I used it in the no-restart-blacklists stuff, but I'm not sure whether it is exposed to the API websocket

not just Halflife either in the long run I imagine or hope, otherwise I'd just set something up for Halflife itself
