@Wrzlprmft could you do us a favour?
I've been googling the URLs in the pharma spam this morning and they all seem to be massively spammed across blogs, youtube etc
many of them are quite fresh but the latest one has hits going back to November
@angussidney Perhaps
so I don't think they are particularly targeting SE, we are just one of many targets which they have a script for
create user, post spam, sit back and relax
08:36
@tripleee Gotta remember what ends up here as a steady trickle comes as an absolute deluge on sites without such robust antispam systems
@SmokeDetector @Wrz could you modflag this answer with something along the lines of 'Spammy username, same user plagurised content here <http://hinduism.stackexchange.com/a/18215>, maybe the username needs to be reset?'
Most of us NAAed it so we can't modflag
@Magisch I'm also thinking that perhaps our data would be useful to combat blog and forum spam more generally
@angussidney Can’t you modflag after retracting your NAA flag?
@tripleee Sure it would. I'm not so sure though that SE would like it if we shared what essentially amounts to a scraping service for the worst posts on the network with other providers
I thought you were prevented from flagging again after redacting? Or is that redflags only?
Time for science I guess
08:38
Actually that's a great question to ask pops
I bet some other sites would be very interested in taking a look at our data

@Cerb you around?
@Magisch no need to ask Pops. Our data is our data, we can do as we like with it, pretty much. I'm not so convinced it'd be useful, though, and I have no idea how to let relevant people know it's available.
08:53
The only thing that would be ambiguous would be whether our data based on CC BY-SA (made sure I wrote that right...) licensed content has to be licensed the same
@ArtOfCode is it our data though?
It's gathered from the SE Api
The post contents, no
But the data, e.g. statistics, blacklisted websites etc, would be ours
Yeah, that
Or would it be a modification of the original work, where the -SA part of the license would apply?
is data generated in derivative of data we don't own still our data?
08:55
@ArtOfCode Actually, we cannot do everything, the data is still licenced under the "Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike" because it comes from StackExchange
And more importantly how is that data licensed
Post content probably does have to remain under BY-SA, but most if not all of the other data is ours
Law/Open source.SE question, anyone?
@ArtOfCode Is that under the same license as smokey?
@angussidney you're talking to an OS mod :P
08:56
@CalvT Aye?
@ArtOfCode I know :)
@Cerbrus When you swapped the class to the h2 in FIRE, you didn't change the target. So FIRE is looking for const h2 = $('.fire-popup-body > div.fire-post-title > h2');, which obviously doesn't exist anymore.
Derp
If it's data that originates in our repos, it's MIT/Apache
do the MS database and the regexes even have an explicit license
08:57
If it's post content, BY-SA
Line 416
If it's data in the MS DB, none-explicit.
@CalvT const title = $('.fire-post-title');
The regexes would be Apache/MIT, since they're in the source code

@ArtOfCode how on earth would we go about licensing that? Would it be MIT/Apache because it was produced by Smokey, or would it be owned by Undo since he hosts the server, or would it be owned jointly by all of the people who have MS integration tokens, or...?
tpu- by Ferrybig
Didn't increment version, by the way...
08:59
Confusing
Statistics that we generate on MS are NEL
@angussidney depends what "that" is in particular
@quartata the guidelines are 'when the admins think you're ready'. I'd be fine with giving you code access, given how you've shown your skill and trustworthyness in -NG, but I haven't seen any reason why you need them for the current Smokey - you haven't submitted many code PRs/blacklist requests lately that I know of (unless if I haven't been paying attention). If you can show that you do need privs, then we would definitely consider it, but unless if you need them, there's not much of a point
in giving them to you
@ArtOfCode the data
Or would it be CC0 because that's the MS code license?
[ userscripts ] continuous-integration/travis-ci/push success on b3f238d: The Travis CI build passed
@angussidney I suspect different parts might end up differently licensed
@ArtOfCode NEL?
09:01
@angussidney no explicit license
@ArtOfCode Per-column licensing?
:D
@tripleee ah, right
the proper solution would be to have a license in the repo to begin with
Licensing and sublicensing is hard
some projects which went through that ended up throwing out contributions they couldn't get an explicit license for
09:02
TL;DR: the person or legal entity that created or generated the data owns the copyright. In this case, much of our data is machine-generated, but machines can't hold copyright. Public domain, technically, but Undo could claim distributor's rights.
but with a small group like we have here I suspect we could just declare a license and be fine with it
Pure mathematical or logical process-based data generation may not actually be eligible for copyright in the first place.
@tripleee or have everyone we physically can agree to it just to cover us
Threshold of originality and all
All our code contributions are clearly licensed. The data the projects generate is more fuzzy.
@ArtOfCode could we, if in theory we all agreed to license it under CC0, do that?
09:05
The data may not be copyrightable, but any information or insights we generate from the data would be.
If we get the approval of everybody that is tangentially related to creating it.
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in body, bad keyword in title, pattern-matching website in body: guys yeah when we're in Apex Rush by esiyt ytpik on stackoverflow.com
tpu- by CalvT
If it's not copyrightable then cc0 won't do any harm
@Magisch the data is technically PD or NCA anyway, so no need.
I'd propose to license "Everything in the MS DB that can be licensed and all statistics graphs and insights derived from it" under cc0
09:06
Derivations of our data would be licensable.
I'm talking about derivations we create in the scope of the SD project
Then yes, we could license those
Much like you made a thread some time ago where we all agreed to license all repo contributions under one licensing scheme
we could make another one for derivatives of the MS data we have access to
Yeah, wouldn't need one of those for this (for the auto-generated stuff, anyway)
so that if someone asks we can just point to that
09:08
Stuff like Andy's graphs we'd have to ask Andy to license.
I'm proposing that we could do something similar to that thread for insights from MS
Like a statement that we license those under a single license too
So people won't have to research which graphs they can use and which they can't

ideally I just think we should have someplace to point people to that assuades legal teams' fear of using the data or graphs and analytics generated from it for whatever
As long as we're in agreement that we want to license it, and preferably about what license, we'd get away with it fine
I'd just put a license page on MS, to be honest
whose approval would we need for that
and specifically, which license do you think would work best for that
[status-needs-research]
I'd want general agreement, including Undo
I think it'd make our project help more people
In theory, yeah, if we were more discoverable
09:17
since any enterprising dev could happen upon MS then and use it for spam quenching goodness without fear
Most of SE doesn't even know who we are
We are plenty discoverable with our meta post
if we ever get properly integrated with SE (like they said they were looking into) that'd be even higher
@ArtOfCode Could you address [the space around the slash] (metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/status) in your smokey instance, it already got 7 stars on the startboard
@ArtOfCode I think the main contention would be if we want attribution or not
if we don't we could just cc0 everything
everything that can be, anyways
09:35
@Ferrybig slashes just don't have spaces around them
2
^ that
I like the lack of spaces around the slashes in Art's instance but starred that comment just so we might establish consistency through one person instead of two :P
It also doesn't matter for me in what direction we resolve the inconsistency, but looking at the status now I can also see that Undo has added another instance to the list with the spaces
@Undo If you search for autoflagged=yes and feedback=fp how come some of the posts don't show the 'eligible for autoflagging' flag. Am I just using the search wrong?
