@HyperNeutrino honestly, these humans making assumptions
user165474
D: Oh no, Smokey is plotting against us! Run everyone!!!
it's been doing that for a long time
I, for one, welcome our spam-slaying overlord.
user165474
But what if it decides that we are all spam?
user165474
20:53
Oh wait, it only reports spam, it doesn't actually kill it.
user165474
Smokey reports it and then we kill it with FIRE. :D
metasmoke does the killing (or could, with enough access)
user165474
I see.
user165474
Let's just hope that metasmoke doesn't conspire against us :)
s/metasmoke/Undo/ given that he's got all the accesses
user165474
20:56
Oh.
user165474
Let's hope that Undo doesn't Undo all of our progress. :')
there might be a way for me to do it, but I'd have to try pretty hard
user165474
no that doesn't work

@SmokeDetector ...where else did you find that spam?
It's not like I want company to go through it or anything.
@SmokeDetector FireAlarm doesn't count? :p
@NobodyNada Please. I have some self-respect.

Okay. Just didn't want to accidentally kill Smokey lol
Skynet begins with a sassy spam-fighting bot. Didn't you watch Terminator 3?
22:00
@QPaysTaxes I mean I've been fooled before
clever bot can get pretty good some times
was trying to think of the algorithm being used to randomly select which response to respond too though ...
@quartata Who? Won't get fooled again
random wouldn't be fun ... and SD is good at weighting things
user165474
!!/alive
@HyperNeutrino Of course
user165474
22:02
Okay. Just making sure the real Smokey is still alive. :P
Skynet begins when we figure out that machines are infinitely better at handling logistical operations, exploiting tactical advantages and designing winning strategies in warfare and handling everything real time. Then some doofus in 2250 tells the AI to: "Figure out a way to make world peace". And it says: "Ok but you're not going to like it".
user165474
Oh well, gtg. Cya! o/
@HyperNeutrino \o
@EricLeschinski sounds exactly like smokedetector
It's funny, because they got it so close to reality... the only difference being in reality they asked "figure out a way to clear the internet of spam". I gave them the same response, though.

TIL that there is an LAGPL license. sigh
@ArtOfCode, since I have seen a lot of red flags on post that we once did not flag, have you raised the bar?, any new meta on that subject? or is it just more experience/data that determine this?
@PetterFriberg As far as I know nothing's changed - you can look at the system settings yourself: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/flagging/settings
I wondering since this for example metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/67163 was a user with other reasonable posts, we we saw it nuked, we decided to raise a mod flag but it was declined.
@PetterFriberg The minimum reason weight we allow for flaggers adjusts so that it achieves 99.5% accuracy on the existing posts we have. So the more spam we catch the more we can flag
The latest post on SO for example, 1 year ago we would hardly have flagged spam..
22:10
@PetterFriberg This is gibberish which is R/A
in SO Close Vote Reviewers on Stack Overflow Chat, 41 mins ago, by Petter Friberg
Nov 5 '15 at 17:53, by Shog9
if it's a new user, it doesn't matter (and spam is plausible). If it's someone who has reasonable posts elsewhere, then that spam flag will be declined because it'd mess them up for what was probably an innocent mistake.
It was not that simple once...
which post are you referring to?
I suspect Shog meant disputing the flag
I have never heard of declining a valid flag just because of rep. But mods can delete normally to avoid the rep penalty
no decline, see also answer from Undo here meta.stackoverflow.com/a/317611/5292302
@PetterFriberg that wasn't autoflagged
22:13
I'm not considering that, more in general needed to know if some new meta ecc was up, since the mod flag got declined, so I'm a bit confused.
Huh? We don't control network policy, if that's what you're after
I know you don't but you keep updated with'em, so I wanted to know if you had new info
Not as far as I'm aware
ok, thanks Art
............
so that's why it was crashing
22:16
@NobodyNada No, it crashed because I kicked it.
This line determines how many extra bytes to allocate for a CFNumber, on top of the CFRuntimeBase stuff
unfortunately, the compiler inserted 4 padding bytes in there, which that line did not account for
So when accessing the last member of the structure, it would spill past the end of the struct and overwrite some of malloc's bookkeeping information
That's why you use sizeof, like every other call to _CFRuntimeCreateInstance does
Anyway, I have to leave for a concert. See you tomorrow!
Art? What is this abomination?
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Few unique characters in answer, no whitespace in answer, repeating characters in answer: How do I export VLC media library to file? by Glenn on superuser.com
@NobodyNada that is some nasty C
@quartata shrug it's 20 years old, and it was designed to be as fast as possible
As far as C code goes, it's not that bad
Is that Foundation?
22:26
@quartata CoreFoundation. It's a C library which much of Foundation is built on
@QPaysTaxes definitely the first thing I noticed
Also odd indentation and some yucky switches
Inconsistent spacing in boolean expressions
inconsistent comparison ordering
Oh of course
That doesn't mean it doesn't bother me even though it's forgivable
@QPaysTaxes They did; just not on every platform :D
If you want some really nasty C, take a look at the original C compiler : github.com/dspinellis/unix-history-repo/tree/Research-V3/c
CI on a314760 succeeded.
@QPaysTaxes They knew for their platform
@QPaysTaxes sorry; that's not the original C compiler; it was a C port of the C compiler
