A question complaining about spam? I did Nazi that coming.

@Jamal Ouch.
Yo @ArtOfCode, would it be possible for you to start up a private room for you, myself and undo to talk about something?

why was that user deleted?
It might've been a self-deletion.
@Jamal You can't self delete if you've posted something.
Then Undo will have to look at the deletion reason.
!!/alive
@Undo Of course
21:18
@dorukayhan I'm on mobile and haven't looked, but y'all know I couldn't tell you anyway
Right
@angussidney is it related to SE moderation?
if not, email is better
Nah, charcoal moderation. I'll send an email later today when I'm at home
If it's something we want a papertrail on for meta-yelling-at-us purposes, private chat. Otherwise email
On an unrelated note, should someone ping pops or another CM and ask for an update on wether or not we're able to start doing multiple autoflags?
4
Because surely it's just the sort of thing they'd have a quick meeting about and then give us a yes/no
21:30
@angussidney multiple autoflags?
J F
J F
@YvetteColomb Only 1 flag is raised currently, this could be raised.
@YvetteColomb yeah, our version of integrating our spam systems into SE without any Dev work required on their side
@JF ah so we could have say 3 auto flags raised?
J F
J F
@YvetteColomb Yes.
@YvetteColomb we can do up to six if we have permission
21:32
sounds good
thanks guys
or girls and guys O.O
@YvetteColomb Check January 12th on this graph. It's actually January 13th for everyone ahead of UTC.
Problem with raising 3 now: Workplace and English will poof like that.
@Glorfindel why so high?
@YvetteColomb both Art and Undo were autoflagging then.
@Mithrandir it can be customised to limit it on some sites
@Glorfindel so two flags per post?
21:34
@YvetteColomb yes, from a technical side it works. IIRC that was an accident, but it's fine to know it works.
I've got an exam in 45 mins
so what do I do? Pass time on SE ;)
@YvetteColomb good luck!
@Glorfindel ah cool
and thanks :)
ok bye
Technically I could flick the switch to start doing 6 flags per post right now, but that would probably lead to suspensions and loss of privileges and trust.... Which I don't want to happen :)
And plus, I wouldn't start with 6 flags
@angussidney I'd go for x-1, where x is the nuke threshold.
21:40
Before we go above 3 flags I'd like us to try something else
The number of autoflags depends on the weight
I.e. >300 means 2 flags, >400 means 3 flags, >500 means 4 flags etc
Or something like that
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Blacklisted user: Why does this Nazi website censor commentsf? Nazism by Anonymous on scifi.stackexchange.com (@Mithrandir)
Of course, obeying user settings at the same time
tpu- by J F
Yeah, definitely. I don't have MS access, but I suspect most of us have a weight > 250. That means for posts with lower weights, the same small group of users will be used for autoflagging.

21:45
@SmokeDetector what's that user even trying to accomplish?
The spam seems to be coming earlier today. I guess they want to get it out of the way before the Super Bowl.
@Jamal lol. I first read that as Sugar Bowl and thought "Wat!" ;p
@angussidney We could try that, but at 99.9x% accuracy... does it really matter?
6
Q: Does an answer to the Sugar Bowl mystery exist?

StandbackIn the later books in The Series of Unfortunate Events, the sugar bowl becomes a cryptic macguffin -- everybody's after it, everybody mentions how important it is, but nobody explains why. There are implications that the sugar bowl would destroy Count Olaf, or exonerate Lemony Snicket, or both. ...

Definitely stay under the threshold per-site, though
21:50
Maybe we can get some Super Bowl spam here. I'd like a break from pills and Baba Ji.
American Football is just a weak variation of rugby.
@Glorfindel I would have used a different word than "weak" but I don't want to get flagged ...
@angussidney Probably should, yeah.
@Undo you're the one with superping powers :P
have an email channel, it's a little better for this kind of thing
some spammer just hit pay dirt
21:57
I wanted to ask how they got the front page of Google, but then I realized several iterations of w3schools occupy the same space
@Glorfindel steelersquirrel is horrified now.

If a ragequitting user unaccepts, unupvotes and downvotes all of the answers to his questions, is it worth a mod flag?
It's not limited to a single answerer
@ArtOfCode I think it was because of the commit we made to fix the invalid int error we had
which we reverted which seems to have fixed things - that loop was causing evils
@JanDvorak I would say yes.
@JanDvorak You can't remove an upvote unless the answer has been edited.
Anonymous
@JanDvorak The serial voting detection should catch it, and the mods will see it and can deal with it. A mod flag isn't a bad idea, though.
22:54
@Mego I thought the serial voting script detected multiple downvotes to a single user, not single downvotes to many users?
> Every night around 03:00 UTC, a voting fraud detection script is run that looks for patterns such as these. It basically looks for users who have upvoted another user many times.
Anonymous
@DavidPostill It does both.
Anonymous
At least, that's my understanding
@Mego Really? I've used all my daily votes more than once. I've never been accused of serial up or downvoting.
Is "Nazi" one of the blacklisted words Smokey will always catch?
!!/test nazi
22:58
> Would not be caught for title, body, and username.
Because I've just seen two "you're all a bunch of Nazis" posts on SFF which didn't show up in here. Probably only because I nuked them too fast for Smokey to catch, but I thought it was worth asking.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Manually reported question: Why does this Nazi website use give proof to censor post they don't like? by NOnazis on scifi.stackexchange.com (@Mithrandir)
22:59
There's another one just now.
tpu- by Mego
@SmokeDetector why
Anonymous
@DavidPostill The script also takes into account the pacing of the votes. Downvoting 1 answer per minute or so probably wouldn't get caught, but downvoting 1 answer every few seconds will.
@SmokeDetector How do I find out why that first post got the user blacklisted?
Anonymous
23:00
@Randal'Thor It was given tpu feedback, which means true positive + blacklist user
@Mego But how did the first one show up on Smokey's radar at all, so that it knew to blacklist the user and report the second one?
Anonymous
The reasoning is, if a user posts something that is very obviously spam or offensive, chances are, they are going to do it again, so their posts will be automatically reported.
Anonymous
@Randal'Thor You reported it manually
@Mego I didn't. That was a different user (albeit the same person).

I think the reasons get confused if you ask why after a user has been blacklisted
The first one was "Post manually reported by user teward from metasmoke."
Anonymous
23:03
Anonymous
Thomas manually reported it through MS, so now any posts the user makes will get automatically reported here by Smokey
@SmokeDetector why
@Randal'Thor Post manually reported by user teward from metasmoke.
Anonymous
And we can drop the tungsten rods from orbit on the posts
@DavidPostill Ah, thanks.
@Mego But I've already destroyed that user.
He keeps making new accounts.
Anonymous
23:04
@Randal'Thor I'm not sure about the powers of diamonds mods - are you guys able to IP ban or is that CM-only?
@Randal'Thor As a mod can't you block his IP address?
Anonymous
If you can't IP ban, you should contact the CMs so that they can do it
Or is he toring?
He's also started using a different IP each time.
Anonymous
That's annoying
23:05
I'm making a note of the IP each time I destroy one of these users, but it's not really helping.
Anonymous
I don't know if there are any tools the CMs can use to deal with that, but we can keep nuking the posts as they appear
Anonymous
A user circumventing IP bans is definitely something to escalate to the SE team, though
@Randal'Thor have you tried leaving a comment like "Whether you like it or not, questions on Scifi.SE must adhere a set of rules and these rules will never be removed no matter how much people bitch about their strictness. Now could you please stop wasting your energy bugging us?"?
@dorukayhan Nah, I'm following the "don't feed the troll" rule.
If the only reaction to his shitposting is deletion and account nuking, hopefully he'll get bored eventually.
