Idea for failover structure: Have a seperate script (implementing chatexchange) running on this room which initiates a full smokey copy to start when called via !!/failover
17:14
@Magisch Just build it into Smokey, and have metasmoke coordinate.
Otherwise you'll be unable to have multiple failover copies running
^wouldn't that require smokey code to know which instance it's running on currently?
it already does
Everything has a unique metasmoke key
ah well then
17:42
@Glorfindel What happened to the autoflag names? I'm not sure I like the flags. It doesn't tell me not to bother because I autoflagged :/

@DavidPostill for me, it still displays the names...
I'll check once I'm home, could be a couple of hours.
@Glorfindel Hmm. Let me check my other chat extensions
That one says is isn't autoflagged.
A red flag means it is.
@Glorfindel Ah. Ok. Sorry. I haven't seen an autoflagged then since your update ...

@Glorfindel It's M.A.R.'s fault.

@Undo @ArtOfCode it looks like it's an Aurora problem so I'll nuke it after saving a few keys.
ESXi was up all night except for 30 seconds when there was a minor loss of connectivity due to Snort updating rulesets and bouncing the WAN connection briefly, but everything came back up quick

dead either way
@Thomas what's the difference between ESXi and Aurora?
@MarkYisri ESXi is a VM with 1GB RAM and 4 vCPUs on my ESXi vSphere cluster here at my apartment
Aurora is a VPS from RamNode
I see, so ESXi is local while Aurora is remote
for the most part, yes
though I can access either from anywhere (yay VPN to my apartment!) Aurora's easier to get to when I can't VPN
@ThomasWard TFW you have a server cluster at your apartment
I'm sitting here with my single desktop pc
18:44
@Magisch me too (laptop) (no server cluster)
got my laptop, Daedalus (a desktop), a workstation converted to a server (ESXi server #1), and a server-from-parts (ESXi server #2). Network infrastructure is a pfSense appliance and switches and wifi across everywhere :P
@ThomasWard Are you sure this is your apartment and not a data center
@Magisch 100% sure
sounds like a datacenter doesn't it :P
It is a small datacenter
in your apartment
18:47
it's the guest room of my apartment
the second bedroom
converted to a tech room
What are you running on it
but still a guest room :P
besides smokey
@Magisch stuff
:P
@Magisch I think @Thomas has many deep, dark secrets
18:49
Like voting fraud? Doubt it
how else would we explain the vast darkness of my brain :P
@Magisch he's referring to the vast array of botnets Ubuntu Servers and other utility servers I run
most of what's running on my system is test environments
or some websites
or servers that work for my entire network
like my GitLab server for instance
@ThomasWard Speaking of Gitlab, did you hear about the accident they had on January 31
doesn't affect self-hosted instances
but yes
I guess someone got fired for that
I read somewhere that no one got fired
18:55
Trashcan is private for a reason, @Mark, I can't grant you access.
like, they had FAQs which explicitly stated that no one got fired
@ArtOfCode he wanted access to a private room? o.O
@ThomasWard lots of people do it
@ArtOfCode can you tell me why? I wasn't trying to break it or anything, merely curious.
18:58
because reasons

Art of code is mysterious and complex
or a grumpy CS student with a penchant for secrets
@ArtOfCode What do you do in your spare time? Besides code for SD

@Glorfindel what's that userscript?
@Glorfindel We could build a websocket into MS that fires when something is autoflagged; that'd make it so you don't have to poll.
Just a thought
@JanDvorak that's the one I worked on on Thursday: Autoflagging Information

Thanks.

@Undo yeah, that's an idea. But the userscript could also be extended to fetch more information from MS (like the weight).
@JanDvorak noted, good idea.
What would be the TP rate if we caught arabic / non-latin usernames?
@Undo would polling ever become a performance problem for MS?
@Glorfindel probably not. These are tiny requests
Although looking at the logs, there are some performance issues I could fix.
@Glorfindel No reason we couldn't push that down the websocket too
20:05
@Undo OK, sounds good. Give me a week to learn how websockets work :)
@Undo I'm mostly interested in deletions
(I know the theory, but I have yet to implement one in practice)
@JanDvorak As in deletion logs? That could probably be done too
Eh, you don't need a week for that
huh, fun fact. I never set up metasmoke nightlies.
20:07
@Undo as in, mark reports when they're handled so that I know I don't need to visit them

I think I'll leave Smokey running on the VM which seems to be more stable right now
probably has something to do with 16 vCPUs available on that server and the 24GB of RAM that system has. Oh and the lack of swap, but.. :P
heh, we ran it on a 256MB laptop for a year or so and it worked fine :P
21:14
:P
@Undo well that's the host system I'm talking about
and there's not a ton of VMs running on that (Only about 9), and with a lot of RAM available to these VMs, it's probably more stable than the KVM VPS
most of the other 18 VMs active are on the first of my ESXi systems. Failover is a pain unless I can figure out an iSCSI solution :P
drifts back into the shadows
