Meta Stack Exchange itself is considered to be a normal site (it also doesn't have any rep requirements).
@DavidPostill you're right, I missed that.

It's only a minor blemish. I'm already very happy that it works.
many of the seally old rules have complex lookarounds, like the Nike filter we removed the other week
you couldn't teln that it matched on "nike", it just displayed a longer captured string from somewhere else in the flagged post
some of the remaining ones woud be even harder to debug
my secret wish is to simply scrap them once our recent heuristics provide enough coverage on their own

@ArtOfCode Wrong issue. Actually a side effect of how search filters by feedback.

16:22
Well, kinda
Misleading, definitely
A couple ways to solve that
a filter that puts 8 tp's as fp's doesn't exactly sound accurate :)
... O.o
When we search for 'false positive', it actually looks for posts having positive feedback... which due to SQL causes us to only get said positive feedback.
The problem might be that this page doesn't show red crosses.
16:25
easy to fix now that we cache feedback on the post. Lemme do it.
@Glorfindel The posts on that page are correct. The feedback presentation isn't.
Yep, I know, they're 'conflicts', and I expected them to end up there. This search has one hit which ends up both on the TP tab and the FP tab.
But there I do see the red cross.
Yes, because of the SQL odditities.

Nexus 5X. Decent phone, but they've started bootlooping and EVERY NEXUS 5X EVER MADE WILL DO IT EVENTUALLY, or so says the Internet. Fi helps out a little bit there, but the return process still involves me not having a phone for the better part of a month. Ridiculous.

@Undo oh yes I see. I had that issue with Samsung recalling my phone, I always have loads of spare phones laying around. It's still annoying though
If this was an iPhone, (1) there'd be a national emergency over how Apple could have done something so irresponsible, and (2) I would just walk into the Apple Store a few minutes from my house and hand them my old phone, walk out with a new one. If that one bootlooped, I'd probably do it again and walk out with a newer phone.
@ByteCommander I made an error
@Undo yep that's good customer service
... and you pay a hefty sum to have that service
Grandmother once had an iPad 2 (looong out of warranty) not able to connect to cell towers in the middle of nowhere. Totally not Apple's problem. Somehow over two trips to the store she walked out with a brand new iPad Air

Ok, last question, I think - do you notice when you switch between cell towers owned by different carriers? Or is everything in your area all the same carrier?
@Andy ikr, he's amazing
@Andy I have play.google.com/store/apps/… installed, but now it's really only for curiosity.
Switching algorithms have gotten a lot better in the last 6mo or so. It's great, I don't notice at all.
17:19
Awesome.
I lied. One more: your phone is unlocked, right?
Only time I have to actually care is when I visit grandparents in the middle of nowhere. You can force it to connect to Sprint/TMO/USC manually, and it'll dutifully stay there for six hours or so. Works okay, everyone else has issues getting signal too.
@Andy Yeah. I can stop whenever I want.
No, I mean the phone itself - you have root access and access to the bootloader?
@Undo Also good to know. Only one of those reliably covers the house, but at work all three cover the area.
Oh, I don't because I'm not into that kind of stuff
@Andy yeah, it should figure that out okay. At grandparents I'm pretty sure the temperature changes the refraction of the atmosphere, causing cell towers to just disappear.
Ah, so it doesn't come to you unlocked. Good to know too. :)

UndoThis answer from 2010 is oft-cited as reason for questions about "Hackintoshes" (fancy word for "Running macOS on non-Apple hardware") not being allowed. "Pro Painter 2 for Windows 98"? I was happy with that :)
I had no idea SU was still in the "we must enforce all the laws" stage
wait, does it not actually exist?
I don't think that's a stage of a site, actually - I think it's a phase users go through. Which is why it keeps on cropping up, no matter how many times it gets squished.
@ArtOfCode Probably true
21:53
@Undo shrug It may do, but I thought it was arcane enough that nobody would actually remember it
I just picked a name from thin air
it'd be nice if we could get a large enough swath of users that 'get it' who can go around squishing this consistently, rather than... ya know, once every seven years.
It gets squished pretty well on the 2.0 sites, I think - most of them squished it in beta, and that's stuck since. It kinda makes sense that it's one of the Trilogy that still has that
@ArtOfCode Well we don't allow questions about pirated software either ...
Or cracking your school/work network ...
Should we allow all of those as well?
That's a fine policy. I'm asking for consistency and possibly realization that enforcing EULAs simply can't be done.
also, I think I'm slowly becoming shog. help.
Who's going to point out that they now know about Amazon's TOS and should enforce this policy of not circumventing it? Or, better, argue that Amazon also has a well known ToS?
I would but I have just barely over association bonus rep on SU
21:59
@Undo We all know it can't be enforced. On the other hand nobody is forced to answer the questions either ...
fun fact: AWS' TOS has a zombie clause. If someone claims they read the whole thing, I'm going to say they didn't.
ugh. I can't even down vote
@Andy Amazon is pretty much off-topic on SU. So we don't care about their ToS. So there! ;p
@Run5k Okay, let's try this: I have a Linux EC2 instance. As part of my agreement with Amazon, I believe I'm not allowed to attempt to reverse engineer the structure of their system, which would include their networks. We have a question asking how to list LAN-connected computers in Linux. So we should delete it, right? — Undo 13 mins ago
that was a "silly example" and I never got an answer to it
Not the best example. Traceroute would have been better, but meh.
Feels kinda like breaking down a house of cards that someone put a bunch of glue on.
@Undo "zombie clause"?
Huh, so if everything's gone to shit, at least you can use EC2 to fly your plane.
@ArtOfCode highly recommended, unless you're in australia in which case the latency might actually kill you
That clause sounds like it's about the extent of the "fun" that Amazon's lawyers have
Probably
22:16
Quoting War Games; that wins the argument, surely?
@Run5k You're still doing the self-contradiction thing. My point is this: you cannot possibly hope to enforce every TOS or EULA. Given that, if you enforce one or two selectively, someone will come along and say "but why don't you enforce X as well?", and you'll have no valid reason. So you enforce X. "But why not Y?" So you enforce Y. That's not sustainable. Enforcing other peoples' terms is a strange game, and the only winning move is not to play. — ArtOfCode 40 secs ago
