@Glorfindel It happens on all sites, but Super User’s quote formatting is weird. Most sites either have only yellow or only grey elements. Super User is one of the few (or only one) that mixes it.
While it is open to abuse, I do prefer that sort of blockquote formatting

o/
it is way too early
I'm now an AskUbuntu enthousiast, without ever touching said operating system in my entire life.
07:44
@Glorfindel you should, it's a nice system
Meh ... I stick to macOS. Consumer friendly, it's basically Unix so you can do everything you want under the hood and its hardware is ridiculously expensive.
@Glorfindel you could try elementaryOS, it is based on ubuntu AFAIK and is very similar to macOS. In fact, I think it was designed by some ex-apple designers
@Glorfindel the ridiculously-expensive-hardware bit is why I don't like it
It's all financed by my employer / my own company. And I need it for iOS development.
That would be a deal breaker
07:49
Ah, iOS dev. Yeah, that makes more sense.
Shame apple locks that down to their own OS only.
Can't say I like the decision to lock development to their own hardware, either, but.
I've just ordered the parts for a new PC, it's going to be good to finally have a full copy of linux running on my main machine, without having to use a very old and slow laptop.
I like being able to write stuff in one system, drop it in my shared drive, and run it on the other OS
@angussidney ooh, specs?
i5-6600k, gtx 1060 6gb (it was a hard choice between that and the rx480), 16 GB ram
07:51
I also badly need to upgrade my laptop soon, it's literally failing as I use it
@angussidney nice
I'm good friends with the IT teacher at school, so I managed to convince him to give me a free hard drive from on of the old computers which I can dedicate to Linux.
I could do dual-booting off the same drive, but then I'd be running short of space on my SSD for my games etc.
Ubuntu doesn't have to take up much space, if you don't want it to. Last time I checked, you could put it in an 8 GB partition happily.
I think I threw 100 GB at it, but I have a terabyte to play with

Yeah, API feedback doesn't remove the user from the blacklist
08:19
Is there any reason for that?
It's not like it is hard to implement, we already have smokey automatically blacklisting users on API feedback
Which is the same system
Reason: I didn't implement it when I wrote the API :)
It's not quite exactly the same system, but it is pretty similar. There was an issue about it somewhere

@Glorfindel I do know that it's not forbidden, as SE takes on the stance of 'If the stuff that you do under the API is bannable, you are bannable.'
Or straight from their Docs: 'Some examples of write abuse that will be punished: [...] Automating flagging or closing based on dumb heuristics.'
And according to them, we're not dumb

I'm often surprised by the ease with which spammers can post literally the same over and over again. I have the idea their own blocks are only effective against post-banned users. But, then, spammers aren't likely to complain on Meta :)
Well, once you think about it, what's getting through is mostly nonsense. SE does a pretty good job themselves, blocking tens of thousands of spam posts a day, but ~100 or so each day gets through, which we catch

@angussidney we've actually already done all of those things, we just didn't get a response from SE.
We put together a document a while back detailing what we could auto flag with high accuracy.
11:10
Oh, I remember seeing that one of the first times I dropped in here
Maybe it's worth pinging some CMs in the TL or using the contact us form again
Anyone is, of course, welcome to set up their own auto flagging based on smokey data - that's what the API is for, after all - it just wouldn't be done as part of smokey.
@angussidney yeah, I might poke Adam again
Should I provide some sharp sticks just in case?
I think [tag:plastic-knives] would be more appropriate
I believe their employment contracts say "employees will never be poked with sharp sticks", too
But I could get hold of a plastic knife or two
But anyway, I'd like to get serious about it again, but as a non-mod I don't really have access to the appropriate channels to talk about this stuff, so I'd appreciate it if you or @Undo could throw your weight around and get some responses on the topic

Lovely... and if I try http, I get a 301
No pretesting in Ruby it is, then
@ArtOfCode do you plan to add a property filter to the API? As in, "tell me about these URLs, but I only care about if they're in the system"?
@JanDvorak you could always just not verify the cert, given that we know it's valid
OpenSSL::SSL::VERIFY_PEER = OpenSSL::SSL::VERIFY_NONE
and yeah, the API is HTTPS because write tokens
@JanDvorak property filter? Never heard of it... I could create a route that accepts multiple URLs, though, and only returns those that exist.
