@Undo Do you need to do anything special to set metasmoke up with MySQL? Might be easier than trying to deal with SQLite.

12:29 AM
By the way, what license is Smokey under?

We never finished that discussion. :P
We were going towards Unlicense or CC0 or MIT, I think.

Looks like a good time to restart it, now that we are all brushed up on the terms...

Jul 7 '15 at 14:08, by Undo
@ProgramFOX uh oh, the question I've been skillfully avoiding for like a year. Yeah, we probably should. Suggestions?
If you want the history...

@Normal Well, technically, it's probably full copyright :/
Which is probably Not Good
@hichris123 I'd be happy with either one. It's not like we really care other than it not being full copyright.

MIT has the advantage of being same thing that SE will use.

12:34 AM
@Normal We think, still unclear how this whole licensing thing will shake out

31
A: What is wrong with the Unlicense?

blueberryfields(Disclaimer: IANAL - for reliable advice on legal issues, ask a lawyer) See the discussion on the OSI mailing list for some of the immediate issues with the license. My interpretation: It's not global. It doesn't make sense outside of a commonwealth ecosystem, is explicitly illegal in some pl...

Hmm, looks like CC0 > Unlicense at the moment...
I'd be fine with MIT too.

@hichris123 Not really, you have to install the mysql2 gem (you probably already did) and edit the development section in config/database.yml

The copyright status of Metasmoke database is trickier...

I don't want to think about that. :/
Yeah, I guess CC-BY-SA currently.

Let's say that spam is highly unoriginal and uncreative, hence not subject to copyright.

12:37 AM
We follow the attribution rules.
@Undo ok thanks. :)

@Normal It's technically attributed (there's a link to the user for every post that isn't ancient), so I'd say it's legal.

I never noticed that until now (wide screen). A good idea.

Whether linking to destroyed users constitutes attribution? That's more of an SE problem

It's been a rough week for Community Managers at Stack Overflow. We don't always get it right even the second time. http://jericson.github.io/2016/01/15/second_try.html
"Community managers". As far as I'm concerned, Sam Brand is a marketing guy.

@Normal funny you should mention that, as I was just writing this:
in Tavern on the Meta on Meta Stack Exchange Chat, 23 secs ago, by ɥʇǝS
FWIW @JonEricson, @bluefeet, @Shog9, and all the other CMs that I won't directly mention here: I know it's been a hard few months with nasty drama and then changes people aren't taking to easily (myself included). I just want to say THANK YOU for all the work you do (which is often the bits no one else wants), and for not giving up despite recent setbacks. This couldn't be done without ya'll :)

You forgot that awesome cartoon:
@SmokeDetector f

@Seth why "a few hard months"? When did these hard times begin?
Also, you're back to being an iguana.

@Normal I'd say it started back with the chat drama a few rooms have had. They forced some hard decisions and caused a lot of (potential at least) bitterness.
@Normal yes!

A thought - it happens sometimes that an offensive post is edited by the OP within the grace period, so it's not obvious why there's a report. If Smokey left a comment on the post for "offensive * detected" reports, it would store the revision.

But many reportedly offensive posts aren't really. Also, if the OP fixed the problem, should not we just let it go?

@pro @undo or whoever is in charge, please move smokey out of the tavern or significantly dial it down, this is just way too much crap.
How about we just do this?
Kill it completely there
Either (1) they beg to have it back, or (2) the Tavern dies and everyone moves here.
Even coming from bjb, I'm tired of people saying Smokey killed the tavern

@Undo How about making it time-dependent in the Tavern. Let it report when regulars sleep.

@Normal Who's a regular, though?
^ it mostly already does

There is spam happy hour, 4-12 UTC (UTChour in range(4,12), to be precise). Post to the Tavern only then. This leaves 16 hours a day for rich nuanced conversations when CMs etc are awake.
Restaurant/bars already operate like that, with rather different ambiance during different parts of the day.

@Normal that'd work.
worst case, spam lives a little longer. Meh.
I can always recruit people from TL to flag stuff if there's a big wave
@hichris123 @ProgramFOX thoughts?
