Is anyone familiar with the "API Access Request" that MetaSmoke will present? This page. I've clicked that green "Yes, grant permission" button infinitely many times, and it appears to succeed (I get a "Authorized API Application" page), but since it continues to pop up each time, I'm assuming it has not, in fact, succeeded. How do I make it succeed?

@CodyGray OK, apparently this is generated by Flag Dialog Smokey Controls. So...how do I authenticate that? Is there some extra step I need to be taking?

@CodyGray Do you also put in the authentication code you get every time?

I'm not prompted anywhere to put it in.
Do I just type it in the answer box? ;-)

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Link at beginning of body (41): Is SEC trustworthy? by dashakol on money.SE

4:52 AM
Looking at the code, I'm wondering if it prompts me in the debugger console. Do I actually need to have that open?

fp feedback received on [MS] Is SEC trustworthy?

I think I opened the flag dialogue, got that, closed the dialogue without flagging, and got a prompt, but I can't remember.
I also remember running into some weird stuff around FDSC :P

I don't think you can get it without actually flagging. Or, at least, I only get it when I actually flag.

@hyper-neutrino That's exactly what just happened when I installed it :)

what if you flag, bring up the flag dialogue again, and then close it

4:53 AM
I just checked. I definitely don't get it just by opening the flag dialog.
Uh, I can't bring up the flag dialog again after I've flagged...

hm. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i forget then

I'm not sure if this is something that can only be authenticated when you do not have mod privileges, and thus don't have instantly binding flags.
I remember having this issue with this many months ago, but I never looked into it. Now, it's annoying me again.

Ok, I just flagged an answer as spam, and the score didn't change :(

mods can raise mod flags and it's not binding (cuz there's no direct action tied to custom flags) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Does that prompt happen when I raise a custom mod flag? I thought the script would just be tied to red flags.
@cigien Someone upvoted right as you flagged? Or your quiver is out of arrows.

@CodyGray I'm an optimist :)

Yes; sounds much better than "naive".

Do you get the token request on other sites?

Don't remember.
I don't have an account on most sites.

5:14 AM
That's surprising to me. I would have thought you'd want to flag spam on other sites.

I would certainly like to, but if I don't have an account there, I cannot.
So, clearly, the system does not want me to.

We're talking about other SE sites, right?

Yes.

They have a big button on every page you can click. You can't miss.
If you want, there's a userscript that instantly signs you up on all.

I don't really want to have an account on a zillion sites.
I only want to have an account on sites where I actually participate, or at least plan to participate.
I've joined far more than I want to at this point, because I've been forced to. :-(

watch-force, one word. but that doesn't match anything in MS.

Yes, I just got there.
And, yes, I know, because I deleted 3 spam posts without reporting them because I thought they'd already been reported.
Userscript lied to me.

Most of the URL search results are the result of URL search not caring about word boundaries

I thought it might be documentation or a how-to site. But it's India's #1 test prep or something like that.

8:41 AM

That one might bite us if we blacklist it, because the website blacklist doesn't bookend with \b
(it should, but we want to check if we're unintentionally relying on it not doing so before fixing it)

Why would that be a problem?
I mean, to blacklist that without \b?
What legitimate pattern would that catch?

Wait, what? How would "testbook" match "theworldsgreatestbook"?

the last 8 letters?

8:45 AM
I see

(this is why the watchlist uses \b bookending, because that's not really intuitive or obvious and is generally a footgun)

Yes, that makes sense.
I was thinking of putting \b at the end, and I wasn't really seeing how that would help much.

ah, I see. Yeah, that would not in fact help.

I need all the help I can get.
