@Jenayah I'm fine with doing it with country codes other than
1
. I'm just not sure how valuable it is to do so. What it really depends on is if spammers are likely to use a number both with and without the country code.
For the North American market, people strongly don't think of the
1
as a country code. It's just the indicator you used to have to give to indicate you're providing an area code. The vast majority of people probably never dial a number which is outside of the area covered by 1
.
For our use here with
!!/watch-number
/!!/blacklist-number
, the main thing is that advertisements in North America routinely display numbers without the 1
. My limited experience with advertising in/from areas outside of North America is that phone numbers in advertisements are almost always displayed with the country code.
Ultimately, the goal is to have SD detect posts in which the spammer places the phone number, without also detecting a significant number of FP. If it's likely the number will show up without the country code, then please do add it both with and without country code. If it's quite unlikely the number will be used in spam without the country code, then it's not really worth the effort.
For North American numbers, my opinion is that it's always a good idea, because the use both with and without country code is so common. While my opinion wrt. doing so for other country codes is informed from the spam which we've seen and my (limited) experience in non-North American countries, it would be better for someone more familiar with any particular country to make the call for other country codes.
