@WaiHaLee BTW: each edit is becomes a separate comment on the MS post. That's fine/normal/expected, but please go to the MS post and consolidate such edits down to only one comment (i.e. delete the ones you don't want). It's fine to have more than one comment on the MS post, but it's preferable to not have more than one comment by the same person which says very similar things (i.e. saying different things in more than one comment is fine).

@DaaBoss It's unclear to me if you're talking about metasmoke (MS), Stack Exchange chat, or a combination of MS and chat. I think you're talking about a combination. I would like to make the experience better, so if we could refine your suggestions, I'd like to see if we could implement something that helps.
Note: we can change metasmoke, but can't do much about SE chat, other than provide userscripts which can help, but that won't help a first time user of chat.
As to metasmoke changes, if you describe the information you were looking for and where you expected to find it, that would help me in trying to have the information available. Any other suggestions, are, of course, also appreciated.
Part of the problem is that I saw that you created a new account on metasmoke and gave you the permissions needed for autoflagging shortly after your account was created. If I hadn't done so, there would have been some additional text, which, IIRC, points here saying go ask for autoflagging permissions. I'm sorry not having that text increased the confusion. My intent was to be helpful, but it looks like it didn't turn out that way.
If your question about your first message being too long is about this chat interface, I quite agree. It's a pain in the rear that the chat interface doesn't tell you how many more characters you have, or how far over the limit you are. I, eventually, made a userscript for myself which did so. My intent is to release it publicly, but I haven't gotten around to doing so, yet.

Not sure this is, or is not the best place to go back and forth, but if it is, here are a few of my "first look" observations:
-- I saw/found I was "accepted" but the link to "Charcoal HQ (room 11540)" was [smartly] not there, so I used Google, which it dumped me into "this room", "disoriented".
@Makyen Later I saw from the URL (and your reply) that I was in the chat section of SE. Since mostly I'm in "SE", not "SE/meta", and "unicorn scarce" in "SE/Chat", I didn't see that I was even logged into SE, since there's nothing that the top of the page, as usual on SE.

@Machavity ahh thank you - list of commands on the metasmoke site I'm guessing?

@DaaBoss Unfortunately, there really isn't anything we can do about the look and feel of SE chat. There are some userscripts around, and even one that adds a topbar to chat. However, that's not going to help the new user experience.
@DaaBoss OK. I'm going to have to run my test account through that a couple of times (again) to see what it currently looks like under the conditions which I caused by enabling flagging for you. Thanks.

6:06 PM
@Makyen So, providing at least a link to a new browser window/tab, saying where I am, and if joining Smoke detector, a link back to that dashboard, and then a few details I'd need as a new user. (Like, I don't see anything different on SE to use flags [PLEASE replace SE with SU in these 2 msgs, which is the site I was referring to as familiar, not SE;( ].

Q: User names with promotion/spam in them

Rewan DemontayTo my knowledge, questions and answer that cotain spam and promtional materials, such as to sell something or advertsting, are forbidden. But what if it is in a a username?. Sure, it isn’t a direct link, but it would still get a few people to become curious and go over. It’s a very subtle form ...

@DaaBoss If by "use flags" you mean autoflagging, that's not really how it works. Autoflagging is completely based on SmokeDetector detecting a post (which can be manually reported) and the post having enough detections to fit some number of user's flagging conditions. If it does, then metasmoke will cause some autoflags to be raised on the post.
BTW: This link has some introductory information (probably could have a better title).

@Makyen NP --- That's why if my name was here [DaaBoss] as accepted with a link to [new window] NewbieFAQ, that's about all I'd need. Even that page could be very crude or work in progress, as you learn what newbies need. No changes in SE/Chat UI needed: just that link. BTW, I saw someone asked about the autoflag vs flag. - My MSmoke dashboard says, "flagging & you: Not registered for flagging." Will go to your URL next.

@Makyen Hey -- your "link" worked great -- I understand a bunch more than I did. Still it was hard to do all the steps required that I somehow missed: Linking an authenticated SE account to SD. Threw me--It said I was authenticated, and then said I'd be responsible for what the bot did!! Finally I did. But Flagging still not working.
@Makyen I also SET the two accounts and evidently chose the wrong options for the numbers, still didn't work. Next, I used the wizard -- That DID work. However, I saw that I was now allowing the bot to use my account on 187 sites!.. Plus, it said I ALREADY flagged 187 sites. I deleted MY set of two sites, and then EDITED the "wizard" conditions, and eliminated all but two sites.
OK -- All set, Lesson? USE the Wizard and then EDIT sites down. But NOW.... I have this new sword, but went to see if you could cause some mayhem on the two sites I authorized... No clue how to un-scabbard my weapon... Where or how do I use it on the sites I enabled?

@DaaBoss OK. What is it saying which makes you feel autoflagging isn't working? You won't see it immediately use flags. There has to be something detected to flag and your account has to be picked to be used. Accounts are picked randomly from those with matching flagging conditions and preferences.
@DaaBoss The default is to use any accounts the user has on all SE sites. I'm not sure what text indicated it had already used flags on 187 sites.
@DaaBoss There's not anything that you actually do. Autoflagging is...automatic. Autoflags are only raised based on what SmokeDetector detects (although it can be directed to report or scan something specifically). There is no ability to have the flags that anyone raises magnified by autoflags raised by other people.
You can raise flags on things that are autoflagged, or possibly even before the autoflags are raised, but the fact that any particular person raised a flag is not considered in the criteria for using autoflags. If we did that, it would be similar to allowing people to use other accounts as sock-puppets. We want to stay well away from the impression that we permit that.
@DaaBoss My saying there's nothing that you can do is inaccurate. There's nothing that will directly cause autoflags to be raised on a specific post, but if you want to contribute more to the project, you can give feedback to SmokeDetector (SD) reports as to the post being something that should be blocked if SD was a part of the SE system (indicating it's True Positive (TP)), or that it's not something that should be blocked (indicating it's False Positive (FP), or Not An Answer (NAA)).
If you feel something should have been flagged/detected and SD didn't detect it, then you can have SD scan it by using the !!/scan URL command, or directly have SD report it using !!/report. However, to do so, you will need to ask for SmokeDetector privileges, which would be granted, if asked for.

OK--- got it -- USE the wizard, AND the options of all 187. NP. I had this on the flagging dashboard: "last 24 hours"
187 flags cast. (Assume now, this meant everyone, since MY "Flagging and you": "0 flags used today".)
--- New Flagging not showing on sites chosen? Wait--sync delay.. I get that [now].

I hope my "first look" comments were worthwhile and helpful. I will try to engage more if someone asks. I do think that the best case still, is to add that link you provided, (which is nowhere I could find now, on the SD site itself?) You can only picture the "first look" as a new user, once :)

8:04 PM
@DaaBoss Yes, you comments are helpful. Thank you. I agree, it's hard to get an impression of what the first look actually looks like to new users. It's possible to see the same display, but there are assumptions that are made both by new users and by experienced users which makes it difficult to be seeing the same things in the same way.
