@SmokeDetector This is probably trolling but bit hard to know whether it's worthy of a RA flag
@CalvT ^ I noticed you did a TPU on the above what were your thoughts on it?

12:36 PM
@PeterJ It was tp as it included contact details, and I added the u to temporarily blacklist the user to see if they continue with this

k that makes sense - it's certainly a dubious question

Tp does not have to mean a red flag - especially not on questions as we do not have naa

How common is a tp without a flag?

Fairly common since that's all the cases of vandalism, and we get multiple cases of vandalism every day

@JohnDvorak Quite common in my case at least - especially now we have the review queue

12:41 PM
Also, anyone can provide feedback but without enabling Metasmoke to cast flags on their behalf. Those people will raise TP without a flag.

Gotcha, thanks

I cannot recall if me merely writing k in this room casts a flag, or if I have to use FIRE for a flag to be cast. If me simply sending feedback replies to Smokey doesn't send flags, add that case too.

@doppelgreener Fire is the only way to cast flags via chat (I think?)
k definitely doesn't cast a flag

Yes but I could probably set it up do I have 10K FPs and either that wouldn't be good or it wouldn't be bad to have more than the measly 3 FPs I was able to squeeze out of it. My settings also catch a few thousand more posts than the default settings would catch - which I think is a good idea ....
OK, you are also able to look, at it seems reasonable. Thanks for checking.

MS devs can impersonate users :)

Rob
The default settings are a bit timid, but I guess that the exact settings change from time to time. I was willing to take a bit of a chance due to the success of the statistics.
Sneaky.

@Rob We haven't changed the defaults since inception, actually... they've always been 280/1/1
we probably could, though

Rob
May I ask how many FPs you allow, surely more than 3.

@Rob As long as the condition comes out at over 99.75% accuracy, it's okay

Rob
I was able to bump a lot and still maintain a zero, I pushed a little harder and it hit over 50 so I backed of a bit and it landed on 3; I figured that's a good place to start. It doesn't actually mean that I will have to explain 3 bad flags.

Mine is at 100/1/3
99.85%

Rob
OK, 99.75. That probably is way more than 3 FPs. :)

2:11 PM
@Rob that's the difference made by lower weight and higher reason count

Rob
Ah OK. I'm registered on the most frequent. Perhaps I should check the chart and register for a few more of the most common. (WordPress, etc.).
There were no docs, I figured reason count mean the number of reasons that it hit on by setting to 3 you need 3 triggers? Is my setting of 1 too low, it was the one default that I didn't tweak.
Well, thanks for helping me with that Art.

Hello friends why is serum flagged?

@Rob as long as it's over 99.75%, it's fine - it was built like that deliberately so that you have flexibility to catch what you want to

Getting multiple repeated backoffs from the SE API is something I've seen with a different script. With that script I even backoff significantly (50%) more seconds than what the SE API indicates is required, sometimes 2.5 times as long. Even then, I find that to get out of being backed-off will normally take 4 sequences of backoff➞wait 1.5*requested seconds➞retry requests➞get backoff (repeat).

@ThomasWard - "... broken upstream ..." Is it because some people exceed their CPU credits and they are letting it go sometimes and throttling (messing things up) randomly on other occasions?

@Rob not sure. in my case these're VPSes, not EC2 systems
so they don't have CPU credits
they have about 10TB of Bandwidth monthly on gig links on each box so it's not like we're using it all :P

@ThomasWard I think we might be able to fit into 10TB of bandwidth. :-)

OK. Just throwing out a theory. I'm using 50GB on my phone, which is a lot per month. I have the X20 Modem so I can do 1Gbps if the other end can. Still far away from just one TB.

@Rob That's a possible significant issue, at least for @iBug's and my EC2 instances, which are both on the AWS Free Tier, at this time, so t2.micro. Based on the very brief time my EC2 instance was the active SD instance, it ran at 40% on 1 vCPU for that brief period. [That's untuned SD/system performance and the SD instance was probably also playing at least a bit of catch-up wrt. SE posts.]
At 40% sustained (@iBug has reported that it's actually 20% sustained), a t2.micro that's been idle for 1 day can run for 8 hours prior to using up a maxed-out vCPU credit balance (9.6 hours if idle from start-up). Past that, it would be necessary to cycle through stopping and starting the EC2 t2.micro instance (or switching to an EC2 instance that was just brought on-line) every 1.6 hours, or so, as a t2.micro gets 30 vCPU credits when starting up, which can be done up to
100 times in a 24 hour period (may be less than 100 times, depending on account history). Assuming that SD is actually 20% sustained on a single EC2 vCPU, that would mean that SD would need a t3.micro EC2 instance in order to be active 100% of the time (when paid for, a t3.micro is actually less expensive than a t2.micro).
Note: the AWS Free Tier gives 12 months of one t2.micro running Linux plus one t2.micro running Windows, so it would be possible to ping-pong between them for longer runtimes on a single account, or sustained running if at 20% vCPU average.

at the horrendous expense of having to run Windows ...

Yeah, but I was looking at it as a challenge :-)

@Makyen 40% usage may continue for up to a minute at spam hour, not that much - 20% is the upper limit for sustained CPU usage, measured at a unit of more than 5 minutes
@Makyen plus? I think it's just one t2.micro instance, which may run either Linux or Windows at your option

@iBug Definitely 1 Linux plus 1 Windows. Check the FAQ. [Actually, it's 750 hours of each per month for 12 months. 750 hours is a little bit more than the equivalent of 1 always-on instance for the entire month, but could be 750 instances running for 1 hour.]
Looks like that FAQ does have IDs for deeper linking: direct link to answer

@Makyen got it, thanks
@Makyen hah, when did you learn so much about AWS EC2?

@iBug The last couple of days. I've been reading the docs and playing with the console UI. :-) For the 1 Linux + 1 Windows thing, I noticed it when initially reading what was offered, but wasn't 100% sure until I found the FAQ. :-)

Oh... nice. You can auto-stop the instance when the CPU credit balance is below a settable threshold, and/or send an email notification. That will let SD failover to a different instance instead of bumping against CPU limits. With an email to SMS service, that could give you a text message to restart it, or you could automate the restarting it with additional custom code. Hmmm... someone's probably already built an app for that.

Anyone use VSCode for smokey development and want to share how they set it up? I've been hearing good things about vscode and decided to give it a shot and so far I've got to say that it's pretty annoying to get it set up. I doesn't "just work" like I was hoping.
Specifically, I'm looking for a way to handle existing virtualenvironments, appropriate syntax highlighting for python, debug support

@Andy Appropriate syntax highlighting for python just needs to be set in the bottom right hand corner
I use VSCode, but for webdev not python
So can't help on the rest

@Andy not sure VSCode has venv support built in
i know PyCharm does but
