Q: Police forcing me to install Jingwang spyware app, how to minimize impact?

CitizenChinese police are forcing whole cities to install an Android spyware app Jingwang Weishi. They are stopping people in the street and detaining those who refuse to install it. Knowing that I may be forced to install it sooner or later, what are my options to prepare against it? Ideally: Make ...

Wow! Really?!

Te lo aseguro, es verdad.

A J
¿Por qué?

Il partito comunista che vogliono i controllo estremo sopra i cittadini
I might have responded in a wrong language

A J
10:41 AM
@iBug no problem! Used Detect Language in Google Translate. :P
C'est comme vendre la liberté!

lulz
@iBug anyway, "partito" is one, so it should be "vuole" not "vogliono"
and "controllo" is singular, hence "il" not "i"

Isn't there something like "group nouns" in Italian?

:P
like "news"? not on the top of my head

Like "a class" can both act as a singular noun (an entity) and a plural noun (a group of people)

I would have to check, but if we have, "partito" for sure is not in that group

10:43 AM
could be a typo... I meant "controlli". I and O are adjacent on US keyboard

no no, you definitely want the singular there
you want "controllo" not "controlli"

"... that they want extreme controls over"... isn't it?

or you would have to change also "estremo" in "estremi"

A J
@Federico you're Italian?

@AJ yep

OK, sticking to "il controllo"

"Il partito comunista che vuole il controllo estremo sopra i cittadini" -> "the communist party that wants extreme control over its citizens"
"Il partito comunista che vuole i controlli estremi sopra i cittadini" -> "the communist party that wants extreme controls over its citizens" (multiple controls here)

@SmokeDetector Only 3 autoflaggs?

MS does misbehave from time to time, and I guess it's Maria again, though this is a minor issue.

@iBug Relatively minor, yes, but we should be looking at such issues to at least root-cause them. Problems with autoflagging are important. Admittedly, it's more important that it doesn't place too many autoflags than that it places too few.

Fundamental » All languages » Italian » Lemmas » Nouns » Pluralia tantum Italian nouns that are mostly or exclusively used in the plural form....
@iBug yeah, I think they are spammed by the same gang

@tripleee I will look at that in more detail, but at a cursory look I can't see a term I would ever use in a singular form

@Federico I'm a bit skeptical as well but I don't speak Italian
pluralia tantum are always plural though, like scissors or trousers in English
maybe I misunderstood what you were looking for

@tripleee iBug asked for words used both in plural and singular without any spelling changes

Italian generally doesn't have consonant + L and they're all replaced by consonant + I compared to Latin

uh?

Just a thing I note, not related to the topic above
I should have added a "P.S." at the beginning
but yeah, in English there are nouns that can be both plural and singular

but I've got a separate issue with #notspam; it doesn't separate between non-spam webpages being spammed in a post (yes, that's obviously possible) and non-spam sites with spam user "contributions" being spammed

that's more or less what I was hoping to establish, but there are many Blogspot and Wordpress sites which are bona fide spam sites and others which are collateral damage

that is, if we do add a tag like #drugs-victim, better make it more general, it's not like we're not already riddled enough with tags

the #drugs spammer is not the only one which does that of course, but they are dominant enough that they warrant a special case

1:05 PM
yeah, and we've got three #drugs-* tags for that already; special cases should have some limits too
the third of which, #drugs-mutant (tag #260), isn't all that clear and used

I've used -dubious for posts which look different enough to raise suspicion that it's a separate operation, and -mutant where it seems more or less clear that it's not just dubious, it's a separate gang or a sloppy copy cat
but the boundaries are less than clear

tfw you unearth way more general problems, :-/

to paraphrase David Attenborough, "we might never find out"
the various generic tags should probably also be straightened out, #blogspam* vs #self-promotion vs #buy-my-thing vs #visit-my-website

ah, what a mess, my ears (yes, my ears)
well, we still have that autoflagging "initiative", eh? we might need to start the "get yo' tags in order!" initiative! :P
