with legit click advertising you might get paid for referrals (somebody visits the spammers blog and clicks through to the order form) but usually those too are conditioned on actually finishing a transaction (filling in the form on the final destination with valid information)
"worried" as in, they might be looking at their Apache logs with proper understanding of what they are seeing? or just "worried" that we are creating traffic to their site and that somebody somewhere is actually going to pay them anything like a good margin on what it costs to host that?
but traffic to their drive-through sites is only a cost, it doesn't bring them any benefit, the guy with the pocketbook looks for traffic through to the actual order form

@quartata digging through CE shows the parent ID comes from the WS event, and the actual value of parent comes by passing the parent ID into [whatever this does]((github.com/Manishearth/ChatExchange/blob/…) )
So that link must be the point where something's failing
But if there's no parent, how does it get correctly assigned in MS to the SD report which I was replying to? Is there a separate chat listener listening for comments? If not, then it has to have an accurate parent, or it couldn't assign it to the correct MS report.
@quartata That's not accurate. My ignore was to a MS report that was 3 reports prior, with lots of feedback between them. I've always seen it end up on the correct MS post. If it was just going on the post with the most recent feedback, I would have only rarely seen it on the correct post.
An interesting point previously mentioned. Both of the most recent examples occurred as the first chat interaction after a reboot. And so was the one which started the discussion today.
Yes, it was after a !!/watch, so a reboot would have happened shortly thereafter, but was prior to CI finishing, so I would have expected the reboot to not actually be in process, quite yet.
@NobodyNada Yes, but SD had received and responded to two chat commands, so while it was relatively soon after a reboot, it wasn't the first chat command it had received.

@SmokeDetector there's one FP and some of the TP posts look like maybe they were just very very poor posts looking for help on Stack Overflow ... maybe I am geographically biased

still I can only see the topmost starred post but that's already quite an improvement

@Mithrandir you can't make new visitors install a userscript before they visit, if we need a userscript we should have one which puts back the tags and the other chaff for regular users who want it
> If we determine that the post is spam, we post a report of that fact to Charcoal HQ (and to some other chatrooms, based on certain conditions). This report is the cue for some humans to go and look at the post, check if it’s spam, and flag it if so.
there are a couple of plug-ins which do something along those lines but the core is mainly a huge list of regexes which I don't think anybody would want to call NLP proper
