Hey @Zoe, quick question. Why is this spam?

@terdon there seems to be cross site post chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/44726418#44726418 with that link

@terdon MS record, for reference. Caught because the cicever.com domain uses nameservers that are often seen on spam sites.

naa- by tripleee

Two posts, very similar, by same user: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/…

Cross-posted does make it suspicious. I'd usually say borderline/mod's discretion for that post, but having a cross post tips it over to calling it spam

11:59 AM
I've just taken a look at the website, and it looks particularly spammy

Yes

tpu- by DJMcMayhem

@quartata no I'm writing a new thing

What is it

6:35 PM
tl;dr: websocket-client has a WebSocketApp class that's much easier to use than looping on recv() but I need to call run_forever() which blocks the thread so I want to do it in another thread

absolutely do not use Tasks
OK guess it's time for the long answer
So one of the primary motivations behind asynchronous I/O is that it turns out kernels are really, really slow and bad at spawning threads
If kernel threads were quick to make, you could create a thread for each synchronous I/O task you had
One of the things asyncio provides are Tasks -- you create a coroutine, and the next time the event loop is free it can get run
Smokey's Tasks all run in one thread as a result

Zoe
@ArtOfCode responseText: "{\"status\":\"failed\",\"message\":\"Flag options not present\"}" even though the post isn't deleted

However, it's only partially asyncio currently -- many of the Tasks that run use synchronous I/O, which means they block the whole loop rather than letting another Task run

Threads it is

That's not great but it won't break things if your task is one and done.... But it will for something like listening to a socket
@ArtOfCode that being said, it would probably be not a bad idea to hold off on what you're doing until everything is asyncio. Then you can use a nice library like websockets
What precisely is this for?
(Keep in mind whatever you add now, I'll have to rewrite for asyncio)
