naa- by angussidney on Linux equivalent to robocopy? [MS]

@SmokeDetector @iBug why TPU? The OP already knows about and has mentioned robocopy. Yes, that's not the answer they want, but it doesn't make it spam

@angussidney Previous GS Richcopy 360 spam
I have been treating suspicious "robocopy" answers on SU as spam for quite some time.

That doesn't appear in the MS revision
@iBug richcopy !== robocopy

@angussidney Search MS and there's more than this one "robocopy".
@angussidney They disguised as robocopy, a Windows builtin utility

Also one by someone with the same username (different capitalisation)

10:33 AM
Ah, this one tries to disguise GS Richcopy 360 in robocopy/fastcopy
Given the past activity, I believe all suspicious "robocopy" answers are actually spam, or seed.

Let me know how your flag goes

@angussidney I declined it.

@DavidPostill See those 4 MS links I posted above.

No matter whether the user has a past history of spam, we can't delete a post which isn't an unsolicited advertisement and which doesn't actually mention the product that they're supposed to be spamming

It's the 3rd answer of "use robocopy" + a lot of dots I've seen.

10:35 AM
@iBug None of those are spam.
@iBug That doesn't make it spam.

@iBug "There was once another post" maybe, but that doesn't make all new posts with the word robocopy in them spam. Please stop this wrong flagging.

things can be crap without being spam

@DavidPostill That's only one example and there are several other "Richcopy 360" spams accompanied with "robocopy"

10:40 AM
@iBug this one is spam IMO as it doesn't disclose their affiliation with the site. It needed to be edited at least, but the MS record would stay TP

@iBug How many time do I have to tell you? Robocopy by itself IS NOT SPAM

@iBug these ones should all be FP
@iBug that one looks more like a NAA

@DavidPostill It's spam seed...

@angussidney Why is that one spam? That looks like a valid tool, is it not?

10:42 AM
@terdon Link at the end.

@iBug Yes, what's wrong with it?

@terdon The link made the post spam.

SE rules require that you disclose affiliation. I would have edited the post rather than actually flagged it, but we should give feedback to MS based on the revision stored in MS

Ah, same name as the OP. I hadn't seen the name

@iBug There is no evidence for that (yet).

10:43 AM
fp feedback on autoflagged post: Syncing Large Amounts of Files Between 2 Windows Computers MS (@doppelgreener @WELZ @iBug)

Man, I really hate it when that rule is applied blindly. As you said, @angussidney, a simple edit and/or comment to let the OP know the rules, would have been enough.

@terdon TP for our purpose, then edit it.
Should be TP... Check this user's records.

@iBug Wait, what user is that?

Whether I edit or flag depends on how spammy the post sounds and how useful it looks. If it looks pretty spammy/pretty useless for the question provided, then I'll flag, but if it otherwise looks good I'll edit/comment

If robocopy appears on another site than SU, I would have examined the post more thoroughly. But given the past posts seen on SU, then...

10:45 AM
@angussidney Sounds very reasonable.

@iBug You do understand that robocopy is actually shipped with Windows, right? So that the mention of robocopy in an SU post is completely reasonable?

@iBug The thing is robocopy is a valid tool provided by MS as part of the operating system. That means it is very unlikely to be spam unless other spammy tools are also menationed.

There we go

@terdon I absolutely know robocopy, but I've emphasized its appearance along with GS Richcopy 360.

10:48 AM
@iBug OK, sorry, you hadn't made that clear.

8 messages moved to trash

@iBug Not in the ones you have been flagging.

@DavidPostill There's been patterns.

@terdon just having a look at the records now... there appears to be at least 2 posts by that user, nearly identical, linking to that product
(going back to earlier conversation)

10:51 AM
@angussidney Yes, I know. But the product looked like it might be valid, and I couldn't see any indication that anyone took the time to explain to the OP what they were doing wrong.

fp- by PeterJ

Simply flagging with no explanation doesn't seem right when there's reason to believe the OP is posting about their tool, yes, but in good faith.

I probably would have done the same thing as if there were 1 in this case

I personally will always try to leave a comment to the OP first. In cases where it looks like an honest attempt to answer, that is.
Or just edit in the affiliation and leave it at that.

That surely isn't an honest attempt to answer the question

10:53 AM
Always assuming the answer is worth keeping, of course.
@iBug Which one?

robocopy is a Windows utility, not Linux

I'm talking about this:
But also about the general case. Where the only issue is that the OP didn't mention their affiliation.

@terdon I have no 10k

Sorry, I thought that was visible

@terdon I think I know what you're saying here, but some people here would be confused about "but you said not to comment". It looks like a direct contradiction.

@Undo Edit, preferably, and comment if you're a site regular, I guess.
I just want to avoid either of i) a new user greeted with spam flags, deleted posts, and all the associated baggage without having been given any explanation as to why their post might be considered as spam and ii) a new user being put off the site because of an aggressively worded comment by a charcoal user jaded by dealing with metric craptons of spam every day.
