I can get an access token for a user, but I don't know how I could use oauth to re authenticate a user after they've logged off.

@JF I mean, how is it done? I'm trying to do it on a project of my own.

@thesecretmaster If they've logged off - you'll need to generate a new access token, same as if it were their first login

So you still do the whole redirect user to SE and back thing?

That's the best way to do it. Some sites retain access tokens, which allow you to login again instantly. But that makes me question the point of providing logout functionality

But if the browser has been restarted, the user has to be re authenticated?

Cookies can persist between restarts

BTW this is my first time working with oauth or anything like that.

Once a user has granted your application access to SE, the next time you redirect to SE - assuming they've logged in, it should simply redirect back to your application

So it should be fairly transparent

@ArtOfCode I'm pretty sure this is directed at you, but because of my nomination I'm getting people hunting through my profiles and responding on my posts.

I lurk design-patterns and so often that tag wrongly appears with regex. It's a no-brainer for a bot to fix. Have you written TaggerBot to work with rule-based logic? I.e., if (design-patterns and regex and user.rep<200) then removeTag(design-patterns).
