@zaq the docs say a user can have up to five distinct quotas at a time.
> A user can have up to 5 distinct quotas at any one time, though this limit is not reflected in quota_remaining returns for privacy reasons.
I utilize different api keys associated with my account for the comments stuff, for zephyr and for other one time tasks
If smokey uses two or more, we just have to manage them because the remaining quota isn't shown. But, that should be doable by providing a list of keys to use and then either randomly selecting or round robining through them
With random we have a slightly higher chance of killing one keys quota, but I don't think it'll be that high (famous last words...)

@Andy But there is no user involved... An API key is associated with an application, not its user.
To my understanding, to get another key one needs to register another app at Stack Apps, like Smokey 2.

The user wants direction on how to make widgets on the page, the question isn't terrible, but it's overly general. Stackoverflow isn't a guidance directory, it's a place for specific questions and specific answers. Not general: "How do I best do this kind of thing?"

hey @undo

oy

I saw you chimed in on the "make mod messages anonymous" thing
opinions?

It's getting more traction than I figured it would. I'd kinda like it to be implemented.
(been watching it for a while)

I only ever got one mod message afaik and I didn't look at the signature so I was sort of surprised that wasn't a thing already
seing as I can't see who handled my flags either

Yeah, I can't come up with a good reason not to make them anonymous that holds up to real-life reasoning.

6:05 PM
there is no loss of accountability either
if you appeal a decision on meta, 99% of the time the mod who did it will come forward to explain themselfes anyways
And the team can always see who did it

I mean, suspension is more grave than declining flags.
But I can't figure out what we gain by letting the recipient see who did it. And yeah, SO gets some nasty replies.

Meh
There is no reason
they can reply to it
they can raise on meta
they can use the contact us button
pinging the mod responsible in comments or reaching out to them on social media was never ok, and will continue to not be ok
no use case is impaired by this

Hypothetically, if I were suspended on some smaller site I'd probably want to know who did it in principle, but... I don't know what I'd actually do with that information.

@Magisch As a minor nitpick, if they are suspended they can't raise the issue on meta.

@Andy mSE still works.

6:09 PM
@Andy They can have someone raise it on their behalf or raise it after the fact
@undo why though
other then for being grumpy at that moderator (for what?) you couldn't do anything with that

Exactly

you stand to gain precisely 0 from knowing who did it

Even in that case, it might be nice to hide it. Stuff can get awkward fast when moderators suspend other moderators.
Human tendency. Good thing I'm a dog so I don't have it.

I'm a smiley, and my mouth is >50% of my body, so I don't either.
on a serious note though, the probability of getting unfairly suspended is super low on SE, and when it does happen there is plenty of room for appeal. I'm not worried I'll ever get suspended unless I decide to do something truly stupid in which case I probably need it

In theory, I like the idea of being open. In practice though, I've been the head of a gaming community. I've issued suspensions against users that spend way to much time in a game and against users that provide some kind of benefit to the community - donation, coding help, moderation help, etc. I've seen the weird crap users do when they can't play their game, talk on the forums, or interact with their friends.

I've been head of staff and head of game masters for several wow private servers and more then a dozen relatively big minecraft servers
I've been doxxed, I had more death threats then I can count, and none of it phazed me - but not everything has that little to lose. Someone can lose their job or get unlucky and get some determined *** who then goes on to hurt them
There is no need for that especially when you're doing that for free

I didn't have my moderators announce who issued suspensions publicly. A savvy user could figure it out, but many didn't take the time to. Instead, I took the brunt of the abuse for the mods. I trusted the mods I appointed and didn't want them to deal with the crazies. They were volunteers. No need to stress them out because a player can't play a game
Plus...I do enjoy trolling a troll.

We had a seriously evil mc plugin on our server that one of our admins coded

@Magisch Agreed

It would drop packets and induce block lag and disconnect on random intervals for people whom we placed on a specific list
btw @undo there currently doesn't exist a way for non-ms users to view their feedback, right?
as in people w/o MS accounts

Should we report all posts that match ^[a-z]+$ ?
That is, a string of characters with nothing else. I know that on Math one can give an answer with no whitespaces using TeX syntax, but that wouldn't match.

Might catch on single word, LQ answers on SO like "propertyName"
Although that's a stretch

Has to be at least 30 chars (to be able to post). Although in the iOS world that would be easy to achieve...

Backticks would disqualify it, too

And there'd be a rep=1 requirement, too. Let's try it and if it becomes obnoxious, stop.

Sounds good to me

@Magisch what, a ping? Yeah, I almost always have a chat tab open, and sound and desktop notifications on. Doesn't take me long to get the ping if I'm in front of the computer.

It may actually be an answer, kind of. "Use this online tool"
The question being off-topic throws off our expectations of what an answer should looks like.

@DEAD Good luck with your mod nomination. I don't know enough about ELL to make any sort of guess at whether you'll be elected, but it would be amusing if we bred another diamond.

With only two positions open, and both snailplane and Nathan Tuggy in the race, I think his nomination is pretty much @DEAD.

Aye, I was counting on snail for one of the positions. Nathan is my other vote, but I only recognise the name, I don't know much about him.
