Teach me a lesson by not lying on me and it's all good. Delete the question, tell me what I did wrong, and I will learn. To say I was guilty of something I wasn't and then just ban me for 7 days with no feedback per the mod-only response, that's disrespect. I don't follow you on the "hate" words and all but whatever!! The judge already judged and I was found not guilty of plagiarism.
Period the end.... I felt you lied on me like a liar and never gave feedback when I asked me it!!
I'm human so hate away if that's what you wish!! Peace!!
I apologize to everyone including @JourneymanGeek . . . I let emotion get at me... Feel free to delete my garbage from here... I'll take some time to reflect for a bit. I apologize if I offended anyone and for some reason felt I must defend myself... I was wrong!!
So, the really mean, vindictive thing for me to have done is gone through every single past question and deleted anything that... well was not hugely original
the trick is to paraphrase (which I encourage) and synthesise the stuff you know from many places into something ... more useful than the sum of the whole
That's what turns you from someone who's being the FGITW and just chasing rep, into someone who might be saving someone's hide from what looks like an insurmountable problem
I am sorry, plagiarism is one of the worst things you can do, it would get you an F in school and fired from your job given the right situation.
Plagiarism is cheating, at least it was when I was in college, and it’s hard to plagiarize. You have to go a great deal of effort to do so. So there isn’t an excuse.
@Ramhound: On the Internet, where you're not composing multi-page research papers, it's a lot easier to do this by mistake. We should not assume bad faith.
I am not assuming bad faith. Since we have at the very least young adults, since children can’t be part of SE, and everyone writes an answer I assume they have done some sort of writing to some level. Since I am pretty sure, plagiarism exists, and isn’t allowed in most regions I still come to the conclusion there’s not an excuse for it.
I go back to “in the real world” explosion from college, failing a class (without it being eligible for grade forgiveness), being let go from your job are all possible outcomes. So I think I strong message is warranted. What can I say, I spent to many hours writing good papers, to not hate plagiarism.
I want to be clear about something since I read Ramhound's remarks and such . . . In terms of the the points from that post that were bolded I did fully attribute and I didn't do this **without permission**—it's publicly accessible information—I shared it and source referenced.
Furthermore, I did reach out to CMs and remonstrated accordingly, and they lifted the suspension per their own wording in an email such as......
"We agree that a suspension in this case is a bit unwarranted. You did provide attribution for where the content came from. Despite the fact that it doesn't appear that How-To Geek actually licenses their content for anything other than personal use, moderators are not responsible for conducting copyright investigations and should not delete content in such cases - (cont...)
"so long as a post looks properly attributed, it should be fine. How-To Geek is responsible for sending a DMCA complaint if they don't want the content to be on our site"
I started this chat session after I got back which was before the initial 7 day suspension so I was out for I believe 4 days before I heard back and this is after reaching out to the CM as soon as I noticed and gave a few hours for mods to respond to my private message and didn't get a response.
I admitted I was wrong for taking it personal after getting agreement from a CM and other that by definition of what my profile stated I was suspended for "plagiarism: The practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own." was NOT true @Ramhound so keep it in context when trying to insult someone's common sense intelligence.
And that is totally understandable. I just wanted to be clear in terms of my personal perception and interpretation of events at the time it occurred and such per some of the remarks I mentioned and such.
I don't disagree one bit, I appreciate your follow up and clarification, and I will not do what I did do wrong again
In terms of what I was accused of and why it was lifted for those that still want to question that, I put the detail there so they see the whole picture.
There seems to be some sense that I should have known something I did not already know already and then some talk like this is basic college writing 101 common sense type scenario.... I admitted I was wrong and apologized, but I was found NOT GUILTY of plagiarism so I want to be clear about that too.
Maybe because I've been around 3 years or so, have a lot of rep, I should have known better and thus I get a more extreme punishment.... That's how some of this language I hear is being interpreted
I agree that I will take some time and reflect and learn from this though so I don't make this mistake I made.... In terms of people being here longer and they should know better mentality, to me that is not neutrality as there's no warning or anything just like I already know.... I've been here 3 years
@TroubleMakerChatBroom - I never insulted anyone's common sense inteligence
@TroubleMakerChatBroom - Well now you know, it wasn't that you were found "not guilty", your suspension was just lifted, before the date the moderator set. @JourneymanGeek communicated with the CM, I don't know the actual reason, your suspension was lifted early.
@Ramhound Exactly, you're not familiar with the detail and yet you keep commenting like you are. I quoted exactly what the CM response was to me via email above verbatim and double quoted and italicized.... that's the reason... NOT GUILTY was the case... I did not plagiarize anything. No need for you to comment back any either regarding the matter,
