11:06 PM
@AncientSwordRage I mean, it's explicitly about both flight and equipment in a central way. The fact that the answer is "mechanically, it just works; explain it how you want" (i.e. there are no rules preventing it from working) doesn't change what the question is asking, which is about how wearing certain equipment interacts with flight/the ability to fly.
@MageintheBarrel Have you talked to your group about this scheduling problem? Usually it's better to start with a conversation on the topic rather than just deciding to leave without discussing it.
@NautArch I tried to point this out, but OP didn't seem to get my point. And they missed the point of your reply, too...
@JeffreyWitty: Well, you can't roll for starting wealth in AL, hence my confusion over why you're even mentioning it. Since the 200 gp goal is already mentioned elsewhere, the parenthetical after "Fighter" only adds confusion. And as I've mentioned, if you think you have an answer to the question of max starting gold, it's better to edit it out of your question, wait for it to be reopened, and then leave that as an answer instead (you can always reference the revision history to find the text later). That way, the question is focused on the problem, leaving answers to present solutions. — V2Blast ♦ 21 hours ago
And if your proposed solution doesn't meet your own goal... I'm not sure what the benefit of including it in the question is. You could still leave it as an answer, introducing it by stating, "I can't find any way to exceed a max starting gold value of 200 gp. Here's as close as I could get:". — V2Blast ♦ 21 hours ago

@Powerdork Yeah, but they keep saying they're not, so that's...good?

@Miniman mumble mumble something about comparative volume of actions and words.

I mean, in context, they've decided a particular setting detail is portable to D&D generally
editions ago planescape already basically subsumed all other settings as the over-setting because actually everything is in planescape lol
I wouldn't personally have done that with the Weave, but the text in the books does generally go to lengths to mention a variety of different published settings.

@Carcer Except Athas. And the entire 4e cosmology. etc.

@BESW ironically enough I'm pretty sure I've seen an rpg.se answer alleging that the cosmology of FR itself was deliberately different just to spite planescape

11:17 PM
@BESW Also Eberron.

I am exaggerating for effect when I say all other settings, yes

@Medix2 Lancer does something similar

Well, and outside the diegesis, the whole thing is splitting the most infinitesimal of hairs because the way D&D mechanics work homogenizes all settings which use it regardless of each one's unique narrative flourishes.

Why can't they all exist in the same cosmology? Couldn't the different planes/spheres just be separate?

@MikeQ I don't understand your question in this context

11:20 PM
@MikeQ Not really - everything can pretty much exist in Spelljammer, because it only cares about the actual material world, but Planescape relies on dictating the fundamental structure of the universe.
(Note: that's not an endorsement of Spelljammer over Planescape.)

I don't really know much about cosmology in D&D, I know the names of the planes and all that jazz but not much else. So I don't know why exactly one can't say there's a plane where there is a city named Sigil where there's portals to all other material planes?
Speaking from a "I don't know jack" point of view

Well, for a really simple example, they all say different (and incompatible) things about where people go when they die.

I know next to nothing about planar cosmology in D&D myself
XD
Most of what i do know is 4e stuff

Points of Light forever!

And some of that is Dark Sun which makes a point of not really being connected to other planes even in it's own cosmology

11:28 PM
the one thing I dislike about points of light is the generalization of tieflings as literal devil-lookalikes instead of just being planetouched with hints of their heritage...

Points of Light is rad as heck
I mean, that's just 4e in general, if we are talking specifically how tieflings look
That's not specific to Points of Light

well, I conflate it since Points of Light was the default setting for 4e, and all the other settings had to adapt and imitate it
But eh, not hating it. It gave us dragonborn, one of my favorite races

Personally what i hated about tiefling art in 4e was that they were all unreasonably muscled men and mostly sucubus esc women
So i grabbed a picture of the only mildly effeminate tiefling guy i could find for my tiefling character XD

I tend to ignore official art a lot.... I don't like lemon head halfligns or alien eyes elves

Lol
That's fair

11:32 PM
An outrage! We as players are entitled to reasonably muscled men!

I would do that if i could art a character portrait i liked

@trogdor and the apologists say that 4e wasn't like Warcraft

I'll fight you
I'll do it
:P

I don't like dragonborn. I have no idea why, but I just don't like 3.5e dragonborn, 4e dragonborn, or 5e dragonborn.
Actually, thinking about it, I like Wiz8 Dracons, so that makes even less sense.

@Miniman luckily for me, I'm used to people not liking dragonborn and I've adopted a live and let live attitude :)

11:35 PM
honestly the thing that most annoys me about tieflings is that the tieflings got promoted to Main Playable Race and aasimar remain relegated to rare option

@Carcer that too

I don't have any big problem with them or anything like that. I just...don't like them.

I'm a huge fan of dragonborn but the females having breasts was dumb (at least in 4e, i don't remember if 3.5 or 5e has that too ) :/

> If you don't believe in dragons,
It is curiously true
That the dragons you disparage
Choose to not believe in you.
-- Jack Prelutsky

Lol

11:37 PM
@trogdor Everyone says dragonboobs is dumb. I don't care enough to complain about it. They are something inbetween humans (mammals) and dragons (reptilians), afaik they are warmblooded. They might need to breastfeed the newborns after they get out of the egg, or something

I don't believe in anyone who doesn't believe in me
@Helwar it's not a hill I'll die on but i maintain it is at least mildly dumb

@trogdor I was amused by the in-lore 4e argument about whether dragonborn had mammalian qualities because Io borrowed the humanoid template from Moradin.

XD

@trogdor me neither, really :)

@BESW i remember that and it is amusing but if i were to vote one way or the other, it would be just don't do it and make an excuse about it XD
They lizards, don't mamaliafy/objectify lizards

11:42 PM
do lizardfolk females have boobs?

@trogdor chickens lay eggs but we still eat chicken breasts. checkmate, atheists

Lizards will one day rise up, and overthrow all who disrespect us

@Helwar I mean, depends on the artist, probably

Given the general social consensus that these games lack mechanics for reproduction, we can infer that reproduction does not exist in D&D universes.

@Helwar i refuse to engage this question :P

11:42 PM
There is no birth. There is only character creation.
3

@Carcer well yeah obviously. All dragonborn have tails for 99% of the artists, but they are not supposed to have them

but it's safe to say that the body of fantasy artwork (D&D and otherwise) tends to feature unnecessary breasts

@Yuuki you monster XP
@Carcer yes, complete agreement on that point

> body of fantasy artwork
ಠ_ಠ

Eyeroll
My eyes are rolling right out of my face
XD

11:45 PM
heh

Q: How does the Control Weather spell interact with the Dispel Magic spell?

NicolasIf a spell has an area of effect with a radius of miles, like Control Weather, or Mirage Arcane, is there anything stopping a level 5 mage, hiding somewhere within the area, from dispelling the terrible storm cast by the archmage? It feels like these massive spells are extremely vulnerable since...
