8:30 PM
@Someone_Evil is that a question?

@NautArch Do you have your answer to that, or are commenting on my lack of a question mark?

@Someone_Evil I think we all have the answer to that.

8:50 PM
Uh oh, I did a thing again.

@Xirema I was hoping someone would and that it wouldn't be me.

The idea is to try to come up with something to fill in text-wise for each of those cells; or at least the yellow and green ones, since (iN mY oPiNiOn) the orange ones don't really seem like plausible Ability/Skill combinations a DM could ask for.

@Xirema Charisma Investigation is clearly the show Psych.

lol

And bruh, spellcasting Athletics? It's a super intensive spell. also easy

8:59 PM
The Intelligence Column is really easy: "Know the basics/essentials of X"

Charisma (Investigation) sounds good from someone trying to discern something from a group

ooooh

Although, I think that scenario is listed in the book as something else.

@Someone_Evil Nah, that's Wisdom. Bear in mind that Wisdom is badly named, it basically refers to Emotional Intelligence.

@goodguy5 Great show. Looking forward to the second (made-for-TV) movie.

@Xirema I meant by talking to it, and trying to get them to say the things that are useful to you

9:00 PM
@Someone_Evil Hmm. I guess I could see it.

as much as I'd like to participate in this game further, it's quittin time

The other ideal is to try to figure out scenarios that push all those cells into yellow instead.

Charisma (Survival): PLANTS, TELL ME WHICH ONES I CAN EAT PLEASE

@goodguy5 I think that's still Persuasion. Maybe Wisdom (Persuasion) to commune with plants. XD
Some of these are hard to figure out!
And with this many combinations, I think it would have to be more of a "DM's intuition" thing than any hard and fast rules.
But I am extremely curious how a DM justifies a Dexterity (History) check.
And don't @ me with "Juggling History Textbooks", because that's Dexterity (Slight of Hand) and you know it, you lying liar.
..... Maybe Dexterity (Performance), but you get the idea.

9:18 PM
Any statistics people here that I can try to remind myself how chi-squared works? (its quite a while since my AP Stat class)
It's related to this answer

@DavidCoffron that answer took a turn in the latest updates

Basically I'm trying to make sure I'm doing this right. Say I have on a d6, 40 1s, 42 2s, 37 3s, 41 4s, 49 5s, 51 6s for my observed, then my expected is 43.333 for each?

It's borderline not nice now

Then my chi-squared is like ~3.5 giving me a p-value of ~.631559 right?
@NautArch I agree. Especially the "I'd have punched you" line

9:40 PM
We've got a guy at our table and we suspected him. But we all joked about it and we still starting marking how many 20s and 1s he got. It was more than other people nearly every session. Interestingly, I haven't seen as many recently. But we also stopped counting.

I had a friend who rolled weirdly low compared to everyone else, no matter what dice he used.
He's the reason I made a "never rolls to attack" character in 4e, it was for him.

Hehehe

The character's abilities were all literally "Hey, other person, I'm gonna use my action to let you attack instead."

I'm having fun playing a character now (5e) that's got a bit of that.
Grappling/pinning a lot of people, and then commander's strike to have another ally make an advantaged attack against them =)

Nice. Commander's Strike was the name of one of the 4e character's bread and butter abilities.

9:54 PM
My battlemaster comes out to play next week. Pretty excited.

So, news from the Tomb of Annihilation campaign. We just killed our first mini-boss and finally leveled up. We're now level 11 and exhausted from fighting the mini-boss and 3 tomb guardians at the same time

@Himitsu_no_Yami Nice

Actually Mechanically exhausted?

I'll get to finish that campaign one day :P

I also almost turned one of the traps against the mini-boss after he tried to use it on me
@NautArch not capital-e Exhausted, just exhausted as in we've exhausted almost all of our resources

9:58 PM
Ah, gotcha. Can be a big difference!

yeah
that trap for whatever reason was designed to deal damage based on an attack roll
the mini-boss threw me through it with telekinesis and it missed me by 1
like it rolled a 16 to my 17 AC
So after learning what the trap does and still being Restrained by the spell I hatch a plan
seeing as he was still concentrating on Telekinesis to hold me I Polymorphed him into a badger
10 AC and really low stats
next turn I grapple him and pull him back to the trap (he'd run away cus he's a badger). Turn after that I let him go, back through the trap to arm it and thorn whip him, which does enough damage to undo the polymorph, and pull him through the trap
and wouldn't you know, the trap again misses by 1
The rest of the party kills him after that but still. I so wanted to kill him with the trap he tried to kill me with

Hmm. Conundrum. A D&D group I might be joining offers two different modes of rolling for stats:

1. 4d6dL, but you need to allocate stats in the order you rolled them
2. 3d6, you can allocate stats in any order you see fit.
Decisions decisions....

@Xirema And they say people don't use rolling chargen anymore . . .

I'm leaning towards option 1, mainly because it's supposed to be a small # of sessions "one-shot" adventure, so I don't necessarily need to get attached to the character.

If shiftweave is 5 outfits embedded in one. And you have to use a command word to transform it. Doesn't that mean when you put it on the first time you are wearing all your clothes?

Our group was much more lenient on stat rolling thankfully. we did 4d6d1 reroll any 1s but you must use the new roll even if it's another 1

(which is more likely to be an issue if I have a specific character I want to play and the stats don't bear it out)

10:18 PM
which is ironic considering how hard the DM seems to be trying to kill us

10:44 PM
@Xirema Roll a d2 to decide. (Some people, when choosing this option, reroll 1s.)

@Himitsu_no_Yami Man, imagine getting 46 in each stat.

@Yuuki you're misreading I think cus that doesn't happen

4d6 -> "four-dee-six" -> "forty-six" -> 46
46d1 = 46.

Is anyone else sort of gobsmacked by this question? I read the title and immediately thought "I don't even need to read it to know it's OP as heck", but on reading it, it...actually seems reasonably balanced?

11:02 PM
@Yuuki oh I misread... I actually read your 46 as 4d6

@Miniman Having a straight up separate creature as a companion is design-wise dangerous, but I feel like having the first tier step (5th level) to up it to a CR3 is close. I think it breaks around level 10-11 (CR upgrade and Extra attack), but I'll agree that it's a good bit more reasonable than (I also) assumed glancing at the title

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Few unique characters in body (94): is their a scythe in dnd by user60589 on rpg.SE

11:32 PM
@SmokeDetector ...They couldn't hit the minimum character limit, so they just copypasted the same thing 3 times? Wow.
Anyway, what do people here think about 13th Age? Who here has played it?

have the book but not really read it and never played it

Q: During a long rest if someone is fully rested, can they keep watch longer than 2 hours?

SemilucidSo I am currently running a game with 3 PCs, 2 of which are Elves and 1 a Human. I am just trying to calculate the most efficient way to run watch shifts during long rests since both of the elves only need 4 hour meditation to be considered fully rested. In the PHB pg 168 in the section about lo...
