@DavidCoffron That's actually the least interesting racial trait for me :) I'm more excited about the bonus action for disengage/hide. Let's me save my Ki points for other things.
Princes of the Apocalypse specifies an Uncommon Magic Weapon called "Storm Boomerang" which is a simple Ranged Weapon that deals 1d4 bludgeoning damage, plus 3d4 Thunder Damage against the first target it hits without being recharged.
> This boomerang is a ranged weapon carved from griffon bone and etched with the symbol of elemental air. When thrown, it has a range of 60/120 feet, and any creature that is proficient with the javelin is also proficient with this weapon.
@NautArch I am fundamentally opposed to that unilateral decision by D&D Beyond. They should at least indicate that the item is not in any official book
@JeremyECrawford What is the range of the Boomerang found on @DnDBeyond . Does it have any other properties? Here is the link: https://www.dndbeyond.com/equipment/boomerang
@DavidCoffron Can I just say that I hate that the only way to get to the actual tweet linked is by clicking on the date. What kind of garbage design is that (it is the same design in the SE network...)?
@GreySage It took me so long to figure this out actually so yeah bad design.
What kind of kills me is that the boomerang was "never meant to be used as a standard weapon". Do they not have ways to add thigns to the db that are invisible to everyone else?
And what did they think would happen when they added a weapon to the db that everyone could see?
So, I was thinking about doing a low-Charisma Warlock to make text like Maddening Hex's "minimum of 1 damage" relevant. Any ideas on how to utilize the "free" damage
@SirCinnamon And green-flame blade is pretty decent, since the +CHA ends up being a relatively insignificant part of your overall damage at later levels.
@SirCinnamon High DEX == 16+AC at level 1 with Mage Armor, and I also give the character 15 CON to boost overall hp total. Puts me on par with a rogue at that level.
@SirCinnamon the build actually picks up 4 (and no more) levels of arcane trickster, with purely utility spells that don't have saves/attack rolls, to get the avoidance + features for Mage hand.
@Xirema Right, they dont, and it's fun to build characters around those constraints and such. Just lore and design wise seems odd. Sleep and color spray more than blade spells
Because you run into a problem with Sleep, Color Spray, etc. where they're useless for actual CC use. Big creature I want to put to sleep? Okay, let me just—oops, their hp pool is too high!
@Rubiksmoose reminds me of my question about the Invisibility Condition, where an oversight in how the rules are written results in a drastically different RAI vs RAW.
@Rubiksmoose I'm quite certain the negative answers are what the designers intended but yeah, they're not correct answers to the question.
@trogdor I learned from a lady I know (her family hails from Louisiana) that the holy trinity of all Cajun cooking is to begin with (in a bit of veg oil) onions, bell pepper, and celery. All else follows from there.
@DavidCoffron Does being able to contribute to party stealth factor into your build?
My tempest cleric went med armor, breastplate and shield, so that I was not the rube screwing up our attempts at sneaking up on stuff. It's not just about AC, is it?
Plus, we used the variant encumbrance rules: that tends to make a difference in what you choose for armor to avoid movement penalty.
@DavidCoffron Was just looking at that. From the looks of it, Medium Armor is best for characters who can do well in both melee and ranged weapon combat. Combined with the almost-necessary Medium Armor Master, it's pretty safe to say it's probably best for ranged fighters.
I was looking at the Arcane Archer and was coming up with a ranged Battlemaster, and I noticed the lack of feat options for ranged characters. I realized Medium Armor Master would be a good fit for someone that did both TWF and ranged.
Go level 1 rogue for a bunch of skills, go the rest of the way as a Dex Fighter, pick up Skulker, Sharpshooter and Medium Armor Master, and it'd be pretty solid.
With Battlemaster, there's exactly 10 maneuvers that'd work for a ranged character, and a Battlemaster can know up to 9.
So it'd be a pretty complex ranged combatant with sneak attack, an AC and hit die suitable for melee combat, and able to cripple people from very far away. Would be a great solo-assassin.
Oh, right, that was the last thing I wanted to mention with the build. You're an interesting ranged character with only two necessary attributes.
I considered throwing in some ranger for some rider attack support/hunter's mark, but I realized that managing ASIs and Wisdom was just a little bit too much.
