2:00 PM
But I'm also of the opinion that we have too many available weapons, and they should really just be:
Simple: choose bludgeoning, slashing, or piercing. 1d4, 1d6, or two handed 1d8
Martial: same kind of thing, up to 1d12/2d6
Special (Marital): Whip, Net, etc

@Rubiksmoose I mean the tag part is certainly useful

@DavidCoffron Oh yeah I mean the RAW vs homebrew. Tag suggestions certainly are helpful (and I had that same concern actually

@goodguy5 weapon variety is good though. Martial characters could use another way to differentiate themselves

@goodguy5 Or you could just invest a bunch of money spell slots at the beginning of the year into your flex spellcasting account.
@goodguy5 Look, whatever you get up to on your wedding night is your business.
I don't need to know about whips and nets.

@goodguy5 And ranged

2:09 PM
@Yuuki hahahaha!

@goodguy5 what is the goal of this at all? You could make a variant sorcerer feature that changes damage type or spell effect that replaces metamagic feature if that's what you want

> Special (Marital): Whip, Net, etc

@DavidCoffron How do you define weapon variety though? I think a better idea for weapons is forgoing prescriptive lists that give you a selection of weapons in favor of descriptive traits in the vein of @goodguy5's example.

@Yuuki then how do you decide how much damage a weapon does? It becomes a bit too table dependent and organized play is part of the goals of 5e

(..... argh.... Why had I to realize that the small version of Yuuki avatar kinda looks like the Yuuki from Tokyo Magnitude 8)

2:13 PM
@goodguy5 how do you balance that massive incrase in power? Sorcery points (and a LOT of them?)

@Yuuki besides you can just be descriptive and use a weapon that acts like a listed one anyway (improvised weapon rules)

@DavidCoffron Yeah, we're halfway there. Might as well go all the way because there are definitely people that get stuck on "well, a longsword is a longsword, I don't have any options for a bastard sword".
Even though the versatile property of the longsword is basically the same as the identifying feature of the 3.5e bastard sword.

A bastard sword IS a Longsword

You try explaining that to someone who is really intent on "longswords != bastard swords".
(it won't end well)

They are two slightly different designs for a similar functioning weapon
(That is if you use the German understanding of what a longsword is. Other "longsword"s are completely different)

2:18 PM
@Rubiksmoose Is it worth it in the Magic Missile question to include target requirements and xanathar's suggestions?

@NautArch I think it isn't necessary but may bolster the argument.
I can see potentially not finding the difference between spell attacks and magic missile not compelling I suppose if you are intent on the other interpretation, but the creature targeting of mm does make it more compelling.

I wonder if they'll release guidance for spell creation like they did for monster creation (break it down to a number of criteria that approximate required spell level/component cost)

@NautArch at higher levels, how is damage type variety a "massive increase in power"?

And if you look at the weapon tables, you can see some themes that @goodguy5 pointed out: Simple weapons are 1d6 unless they are light (1d4) or two-handed (1d8).

^

2:23 PM
Martial weapons are weirder because two-handed weapons are either 1d12 or 2d6.

Which system are we on in this discussion?

Or 1d10.

but those have special qualities. like reach

@goodguy5 Yeah, I guess the only homebrew ruling you'd have to make for a descriptive weapons list is pricing.
Incidentally, I find it interesting that longswords are versatile but morningstars are not and they cost the same amount.

2:26 PM
@Sdjz you 1-up-ed my answer :P

There's also no martial piercing weapon that's versatile.

@goodguy5 Given that Elemental Weapon is a 3rd level spell only given to paladins and subclasses of CLeric and Warlock, it's a big deal to be able to pick a damage type.

@OneCritWonder Sorry about your edit. I think it was canceled because of my edit at the same time. I did implement some of the things you suggested though after I saw it.

@Rubiksmoose added

@Helwar Still beat me by like 20 seconds :)

2:27 PM
@NautArch yea, to make all weapon attacks add elemental damage. that's a different scope of issue.

@goodguy5 Well, sort of. It's the idea of being able to target a creature with a specific damage type becaus you know it's vulnerable.

Would it make sorcerers/casters more versatile? yes, sure would.

Would it be game breaking? no, I don't think so.

@NautArch Excellent update. I have already updooted, but I think the update will attract more updoots than the old one would have.

For martials, it's changing their weapon to add a specific damage type. Yes, you get the +1to attack, but it's also the 1d4 damage - at the cost of a 3rd level concentration spell. ANd paladins don't get those until 9 level.

but, someone mentioned earlier making it a sorcerer subclass and I like that a lot.

2:30 PM
@goodguy5 I said variant but subclass would work too. Depends on how you want to approach it

Hiya, folks

@goodguy5 I always felt that the versatility is in sorcery points. YOu could create a metagmic that does this.

hiya eimyr
@NautArch that's kinda what I'm saying.

I think that's the better way, and give it a BIG cost (it's not just 1d4 damage that being added, but changing the damage type completely)
sort of like the arcana wizard UA class where they can change the saving throw type/

but this is all theoretical theorycrafting.

2:32 PM
@goodguy5 has anyone played with the UA lore mastery wizard? That'd give us some background on how powerful an effect like that is

How's the chat been lately? All good?

are there any questions about allowing cantrips to be upcast with spell slots?

I can see plenty of new faces (well, not new, just unfamiliar)

@eimyr yea

As long as we're crafting spells, could I make a temporary "drain level on self" debuff spell that I could use to temporarily be 1st level and then gain a disproportionate amount of EXP for encounters?

2:32 PM
@goodguy5 there's one on is it allowed (I don't know about any balance questions)
@Yuuki no. Level is not malleable like it is in other editions. That would do weird meta things

@Yuuki in 5e? no. current character level does not have an effect on XP gain like in 3.x

I'm trying to remember other broken custom spells from Elder Scrolls.

@Yuuki Broken magic from Elder Scrolls: the enchantments that increase the enchanting skill

anyone want to help me with this wording?
How can I balance upcasting cantrips?

or something similar

that's probably a bit too broad as it is

2:37 PM
@Yuuki Wearing like 8 items that each have the weakest enchantment of Chameleon, ~15% per item IIRC, which stacked up to "complete and total invisibility, always on"

I'd start with "why do you want to do that"

What's the best way to quote a tweet in an answer? (Ugh, btw.) Does the Stack onebox, or magic-link somehow, or is it just > and copy-pasta the text?

@kviiri So you turn them from cantrips into willtrips.

or from cantrips into canrips

@nitsua60 I don't think there's any magic, just copy and pasta.

2:39 PM
cantrip -> canweekndgetaway -> canholiday

@kviiri or, as an actual answer. damage types.

@kviiri So this is as good as it gets?

and I think it would make first level spell slots feel better at higher level.

"firebolt does 4d10? That's cool, but what if it did 5d10 for a first level slot?"

@Miniman I hadn't noticed any triggerless reactions--which ones are you thinking of?

and what's the best way to ask balance questions on the stack?

"Is X balanced?"
"How does X affect game balance?"
"Would it be balanced to allow X?"

2:43 PM
@goodguy5 "Will X be overpowered when my game is about Y, levels Z-A, with B, C and D in the party"

ugh.

balance does not exist in a vacuum and there will be lots of people pointing it out

@goodguy5 You've probably got to phrase it in a non-opinion-based way. Plus make sure you aren't falling into an XY problem

^ yes
hence my crowdsourcing

Ask what you want to ask, not whether a specific solution is a good solution

2:44 PM
@nitsua60 I guess, yuh.
@goodguy5 So, uh, spend a slot to change the damage type?

(and then possibly answer your own question with your solution, or include that possible solution in the question- if your solution isn't good, it'll either be downvoted or commented on)

@kviiri no, spend a slot to increase cantrip damage
but like, if you have ...idk. eldritch bolt and burning hands and your facing a ghost

@goodguy5 You could ask about cantrips eclipsing other spells maybe?

I mean, is it really an issue to eclipse first level spells at 10th level?

@eimyr canstaycation -> [all those] lol

2:47 PM
@goodguy5 That is a great question, ask it

It would make the spell ecosystem a lot less diverse
Which is probably fine, but maybe boring.

@AVeryLargeBear howso?

@AVeryLargeBear spellcasting already has lots of complexity - why not simplify it, make it a bit less taxing?

Well, if casting eldritch blast is just always going to be better than casting any other 1st level damage spells, why would you bother to ever do it?

@AVeryLargeBear well... sleep, for one.

2:49 PM
If cantrips can start using spell slots, it's a little more complex (because now spells can be their level... and cantrips can also be their level). Plus if cantrips are as effective or more effective than any spells of a level, why would you ever cast those spells?

and you'd cast them because you don't have whatever versatility is in the other spell.

@eimyr I personally like the complexity, but I don't think adding another aspect would simplify it.

at level 1, cantrips are going to be better.

at level 20, how many wizards are using burning hands or chromatic orb? (as first level slots)

@AVeryLargeBear I personally dislike the complexity but I am not a D&D player so I'll take your word for it.

@goodguy5 That's a good point I guess. Not needing to take first level damage spells would free you up to take more utility spells

2:50 PM
why not give an option to burn that slot to increase your "basic attack" damage?

@goodguy5 At which point it's just a straight buff to casters

@nitsua60 There is no oneboxing or one accepted way unfortunately. It was actually a feature request at one point I believe though.

@goodguy5 They still have their first level slots and they might have to make do with them.
Basically, making cantrips upcastable, I fear you'll favor retraining away all L1 spells

@eimyr That totally fair. I think I am not the average when it comes to enjoying spell complexity

I do run into a problem when thinking about these things that it's usually casters I'm tweaking, almost never martial lol

2:52 PM
Frankly, it's just pure extra damage to high-level casters... and I'm not sure they need that boost

@Delioth This is a good point too

And it's free. They likely weren't using those 1st level slots anyways

I dunno, some L1 spells are pretty good regardless of level aren't they? Eg. Bless is nice.

@kviiri Faery fire as well.

I would be interested to see a breakdown of the damage on various cantrips cast at higher levels for the various ways you would improve it.
Like adding dice on top of the dice you get for character level seems a bit much

2:54 PM
@AVeryLargeBear that'd be the only way to do it and still be meaningful.
because otherwise, you would just use the base version

Well you could do like 1 die for every two levels of spell slot
Or something of that nature

I mean, a 9th level upcast would only be 13dX

@nitsua60 Some people do get very fancy though: rpg.stackexchange.com/a/112275/28591

@goodguy5 I agree that at higher levels, it's probably not worth it, but I would guess that using 1st or 2nd level slots would be worth it.
Not that I've done any of the math, so I could be completely wrong

@AVeryLargeBear I think I'd enjoy D&D if I had a chance to play the game the way I'd like to - which is to go for a hardcore, fast-paced, munchkinised, no dawdling game that surfs the wave of constant action with no slowdowns. Which is probably the opposite of what most players like

2:58 PM
Aren't casters actually relatively well-balanced in 5e at high levels (IIRC)? Do we want to bring back the problematic "exponential wizards" from earlier editions? As far as I can tell it wouldn't be worth it to sacrifice 9th level spells for it, but if you want to deal damage, upcasted 1-3 level cantrips would just be free extra damage

@Delioth *cheap extra damage
it's not free

@eimyr I'd like my DnD like that too :<

@eimyr That's how I like my DnD :) But yeah, most people I play with don't like it

I like my D&D like I like my coffee: watered down and actually just throw it in the trash, I prefer tea.

I mean, if you're a dpr wizard you weren't using Bless or a 1st level Thunderwave anyways

3:00 PM
When I want feels or politicking or slow-burn exploration stuff I have other games.

@Yuuki Throwing coffee to the trash is icky. It'll pool in the bag. Don't you have a sewer drain to pour it to?

@kviiri @AVeryLargeBear... that's three people, find a GM and start an online game?

in comments, can I quote someone?

@kviiri People throw away enough paper towels that they'll soak up the coffee.

@eimyr Hahah, I'm a bit busy with existing RPG projects :P
@Yuuki Good point. (although those people are doing it wrong because paper towels are biodegradable)

3:01 PM
I know that I'm reading this wrong, but I can't not read

pot-licking

@eimyr People when playing DnD: "I want to start a business or build a castle!" Me: "Let's play Apocalypse World, you can be the Maestro'd or Hardholder!" Them: <sound of silence>

@eimyr I'd love to, but I am in the middle of moving to another continent for a couple of months

Although this time around I've actually got people into AW
@AVeryLargeBear Neat, from where to where?

@AVeryLargeBear Play by Post?

@kviiri USA to Mainland Europe

3:03 PM
@kviiri "RPGs are all about being able to do absolutely anything (no exceptions) in one game" - trad people

Usually when I get a group, all of the players want different, conflicting things.

@AVeryLargeBear cool, we'll share a timezone

@eimyr "If DnD doesn't have rules for X, it's something that by nature must be resolved by GM fiat"

@eimyr Cool! It's sad though, since my current group is all on the west coast, so the 8-9 hour difference makes playing difficult :(

"I want to murder mosnters!" "I want to be incredibly pedantic about loot splits, down to the coin." "I want you to read and weave my 10 page backstory into your story." "I'm going to be a lonewolf that keeps trying to separate from the party and express how cool I am."

3:05 PM
@kviiri Ugh, now I want to build a castle.

@Maximillian I am the 10 pages guy

@kviiri "If the game doesn't seem to support your niche activity with the existing rules you need a new expansion or a better GM."

How about we make an RPG about all this stuff

@kviiri How hard to learn is AW? I've been thinking of trying out new systems while I'm sans-group

@Maximillian "I heard that I can sell my soul to Satan to get magical powers."

3:06 PM
"Building castles, starting companies and romancing hookers - the RPG"

@Yuuki Put down the Book of Vile Darkness and step back please.

@AVeryLargeBear Dead easy, once it "clicks"

@eimyr well......

"The magical power to appear in a Jack Chick comic?"

@AVeryLargeBear It's quite easy! Especially the first edition, by virtue of having less moves.

3:06 PM
being a shop-keeper in D&D doesn't work well.

@Helwar I am going to give you a 3x5 notecard. You can write three things on it that are true about your character. That's as far as I'm gonna go.

@kviiri Usually called "Boats & Bitches"

@Maximillian So.... FATE?

unless it's a weird thing like "little shop of horrors" where all of your adventures are in this strangely beset town.

@kviiri @eimyr Sweet. Which edition should I try?

3:07 PM
@Maximillian I'm gonna write there a bit.ly url to the 20 pages backstory :)

That doesn't get you a second 3x5 card.
I'm only gonna work with what's on the card.

@AVeryLargeBear The difference between the two editions is rather minor (no DnD-type differences) and they play more or less the same. I'd suggest starting with the first since its materials are available for free online

@Helwar Really, you just need to write out three very long run on sentences and then print them out real small
@kviiri Cool. Thanks :)

@AVeryLargeBear The download link appears on the homepage apocalypse-world.com if you do email sign-in (they've never sent me anything, so I think it's quite safe)

3:09 PM
@AVeryLargeBear 1st ed is "vanilla", 2nd has some more rules to deal with mass combat that muddle the basics etc. but you can ignore them with little loss. There is one thing you need to know: in D&D you read the "rules" section 10 times, "setting" once, "GM advice" - none. In AW you MUST read "GM guidance" 10 times. No exceptions.

@eimyr That's good to know.

@AVeryLargeBear The materials you need to actually play 2e are also free for download, but the "big book" (with GM instructions and design philosophy etc) for 1e is behind the email sign-in. Most of the GM guidance is frankly identical between editions so it's also possible to just read the 1e book and then download the 2e playbooks and get cracking.

Apocalypse game family is notorious for confusing everyone who thinks they already know how to GM/play. It will absolutely, violently fall apart if you try to run it the way you run D&D.

And I agree with eimyr, I think the AW book is a good treatise on being a GM in general :)

@kviiri Excellent.

3:11 PM
For the first couple games it's really important to not ignore the rules that sound like they don't have much purpose. In Apocalypse every single sentence in the rulebook has a specific purpose and omitting it will detract from the experience.

I think Apocalypse World and 7th Sea are the only RPG books I've read that explicitly remind the GM that it's ok to make mistakes and one should also remind the player that those happen

@eimyr Roger roger. Y'all are getting me pumped for reading this after work today.

@kviiri I do say that every time we play. I'm not infallible, it's ok to say something if you think a ruling is wrongly interpreted. Just don't be a pest about it if after I think abotut it I conclude I was right

@AVeryLargeBear Marketing works :)

@kviiri Well, grassroots marketing at least ;)

3:15 PM
@Rubiksmoose Oh, I see how it is. </3

@AVeryLargeBear PbtA - if you run it to the letter, it makes absolutely no difference whether you're a good GM or not. Being able to improvise is important, but it's probably the least reliant on GM skill of all RPGs.
Speaking of PbtA - I just got my copy of SCUP!
Dying to read it.

@eimyr After coming across Apocalypse World, I started disliking games that aren't explicit about the way they want to be played or mastered
(explicit or non-explicit content are both fine though)

@kviiri Heh. Agreed, But there are games that cannot by PbtA-fied

@eimyr Yeah, I wouldn't want to give away my tactical combat romps even if I like AW more. Luckily in this world it's possible to like many things :)

@Helwar Paranoia makes all so simple. Rules? Please wait while we dispatch a security drone to your location to terminate you. Any knowledge of the rules is forbidden and will be considered an act of treason against The Computer.

3:20 PM
@Derpy OMG, Paranoia is the ZALGO of this chat.

@kviiri Explicit content is strictly off-limits for any campaigns I play.

@eimyr ? I seem to remember it being discussed. Rarely, but without any specific harm.

@Derpy i don't know if you are goofing me or is an actual system :P

Paranoia is a dystopian science-fiction tabletop role-playing game originally designed and written by Greg Costikyan, Dan Gelber, and Eric Goldberg, and first published in 1984 by West End Games. Since 2004 the game has been published under license by Mongoose Publishing. The game won the Origins Award for Best Roleplaying Rules of 1984 and was inducted into the Origins Awards Hall of Fame in 2007. Paranoia is notable among tabletop games for being more competitive than co-operative, with players encouraged to betray one another for their own interests, as well as for keeping a light-hearted, tongue...

@Yuuki Apocalypse World does have those sex moves that trigger with... well, having sex. Except for Child-thing, whose sex move (which caused them to be a child no longer) was changed to a different special move during development, but I can't recall what. I've never been in a game where those would've kicked in though.

3:22 PM
@Derpy I mean that it appears out of nowhere, spawns memetic conversations and is worshipped by many.

@kviiri ... wat

@Yuuki I ain't kidding. Check the playbooks on the homesite.

@Derpy Citizen, You have been reported.

I only played Paranoia twice, but friend computer gave us the best mission. Go outside and bring him back a tree.
Upon opening the gate of alpha complex, we saw green ground and blue sky. We reported that we did not have clearance for green and blue zones.

@Maximillian and then you were terminated either way for tricking The Computer in handling you the wrong mission (which obviously it totally your fault)?

3:25 PM
Even though our games never used the sex moves, I think they sort of emphasize the atmosphere of a world where happiness is scarce and gruesome fates can get anyone at any moment. It sort of underlines the worth some physical and emotional intimacy can have in such otherwise rotten conditions.

Friend computer had to explain that if we are ordered to go outside, then we are permitted to go outside.

@Yuuki I had a similar blanket ban on "sexy" content of my games but I've changed my mind after playing with people who were no longer 27 and named "Chad".

@eimyr Yeah, there's a significant threshold that needs to be met before I'm willing to engage on things like that at the table.

When we found the tree there was debate if the brown coloration of the tree was a security restriction, then we argued whether or not brown was a color. This ended up costing a total 4 clones from our party of six.

I mean, I still don't think I'm equipped to RP those topics competently, let alone anyone else I'd be playing with.

3:28 PM
@Maximillian no, wait, this is clearly a miss understanding. Being ordered to go outside only means that it is an act of treason to not go outside. Going outside is still a violation.

I would like to have players who were more comfortable with treatment of sex in RPGs, but the games we play are anyway mostly about chatting to NPCs about killing vampires so...

No sexy vampires. That leads to glitter vampires and those are /explicitly/ banned.

That is the basis of Paranoia's agency: give the players the ability to choice which infringement they will be reported for :P

I did a little bit of explicit content while my group was in college, but it was pretty much entirely "cut-to-black" stuff. Plus, we run odd or disruptive actions past the table to see if they're actually things a character would do (helps deal with "my guy" syndrome, since it means every decision that's "my guy"ish is actually that, or someone has an equally-in-character solution)

Sexy things can happen but we're not playing them out at my table.

Q: Is this homebrew Bardic College balanced?

RobotexI Homebrewed a Bard college after deciding to create an intimidation bard and finding that no colleges did this to the extent I had hoped. My question is: Are any of these abilities overpowered, underpowered, or useless? If so, why? Additionally, do any of these skills require additional clari...

Is there a way to say: they don't make sense in 5e

@DavidCoffron College of Whispers?

@DavidCoffron was thinking the same. There are so many off mechanics or not fully described features in there.
wasn't sure how to respond
other than VTC as unclear

if the things they're saying don't make sense in D&D 5e's context, you can say that. point them to what does & doesn't exist such that it doesn't make sense, direct them to the kinds of things that might make sense. it is fair to respond saying you cannot evaluate it because it doesn't fit into the game.

Many of the features do things that don't make sense or reference mechanics that are largely table dependent such as skill checks

@DavidCoffron nor does it say what type of action it takes (bonus action, action) or reference conditions (like frightened) that have other effects (telling truth?) that are better used by things like ZOne of Truth (with all of the caveats)

3:35 PM
@Yuuki The question remains whether people you wouldn't be comfortable playing sexy content with are worth being at your table at all when you could have it so much better with people you actually trust.

To expand on AW's sex moves, it shouldn't be forgotten that Apocalypse World is based far more on social interaction and interpersonal issues than the usual RPG (read: DnD). Romances are less out of place than they'd be in the larger-than-life superheroics of DnD.

@eimyr Like I mentioned, it's not just other people. I don't think I'm competent enough yet to play sexy content.

@Yuuki Perhaps, you're the best judge.

I was once in a game where one of the players (a woman significantly older and more experienced than me) was playing a rather sexually active bisexual man. My character (who was built mostly around the assumption that the game would be rather heavily action-oriented) was one of his primary targets. It was a tad uncomfortable.
The game was in AW, incidentally, although I was later informed the player had been playing essentially the same character for over a decade

I strive to avoid discomfort of that nature at my tables. When one player is taking away from anothers experience, it's not role-playing, it's a problem.

3:46 PM
so at least she wasn't just hunting for sex move bonuses

um
did you use the phrase "more experienced" on purpose?

@goodguy5 easy there, killer :P

@NautArch rrrrrawwr

@goodguy5 Yes, although I was trying to refer to her RPG experience
Not sure otherwise

I'm also curious as to how much sub was in her text

3:50 PM
"Sex move bonuses" just doesn't feel right to me.

@Rubiksmoose Magic Missile comment discussion should go to a chat

@Yuuki then you're doing it wrong.

@goodguy5 It was pretty heavily text without sub, outside action sequences. She wasn't the type to derail everything to sex

It's like the "wew, you had sex, now you have +2 to damage with piercing weapons" Bioware relationship mechanics.

@Yuuki They're not that straightforward

3:53 PM
@NautArch Agreed. Though also, I just want it to end. Especially since that last comment easily violates Be Nice IMO.

Eg. the Brainer's sex move is that you get to do a free Deep Brain Scan on their partner during the act (even if they don't know the move normally)

Well, that's good, I guess. I just feels weird to have "bonuses" which implies some kind of incentive to have sex or a relationship.

@Rubiksmoose was debating flagging it.

So whoever is the Brainer's partner has a rather strong reason to... not commit to it, because that's a violation of their privacy built into the rules.

"Look, man, you just can't build an optimized laserface gunner if you don't bone at least three people" is just the kind of thing I'd like to avoid.

3:54 PM
@NautArch I just did actually.

@Rubiksmoose same.

The closest thing to direct bonuses as far as I can remember are that some characters gain Hx with each other when boning, but even that's a bit double-edged... because Hx can be used with Interfere rolls.

@NautArch I suspect (and hope) the mods will nuke the thread when they handle the flag honestly. The long thread is my fault for encouraging and continuing it honestly.

oh wait, Gunlugger's sex move does give +1 forward to them (and at their option, to their partner too, if they're PC). That's a direct, although usually negligible bonus.

@Rubiksmoose No need to wait for a mod, you can remove your own and since you have addressed the previous responses flagging the other comments as "No longer needed" seems appropriate

3:57 PM
@Rubiksmoose definitely been there on those. Have tried to curtail my stubborn/debate driven tendencies.
@kviiri Is that the "Gun Show" class ability?

@Sdjz Was just doing exactly this actually.

@NautArch Nah, but they get enough guns for one at start anyway :)

@kviiri What do they do with all those tickets then?!

Oh, and the Maestro'd sex move is also quite definitely a not sex move
It triggers the other player's sex move when the Maestro'd gets them hooked on something: food, wine, drugs, games...

@kviiri Seems a little rapey

4:03 PM
@AVeryLargeBear Nah, it's just that the Maestro'd has such exquisite delights that they provide the same response

@kviiri Ahh. Thats better then

The Maestro'd playbook being an owner of a social establishment: a restaurant, grill, bar, opium den, brothel, dance club, casino... they're one of those fellows that make surviving the Apocalypse a bit less stupid.
It's one of the new playbooks to 2e, although it was formerly a limited edition extra playbook to 1e.

@kviiri The Snakehole Lounge?
Paunch Burger?

@Yuuki Mine was a casino grill
Fickle Fate & Fat or "Triple F" for short.
I recall someone poisoning my game expert, Numb4rs

@kviiri "So what kind of decadent hive of scum and villainy are you running? Brothel, opium den?" "Nah, burger joint."

4:32 PM
@kviiri I keep seeing owlbear in many of your chats when there is none. I'm very confused
I think I combined owner, bar, and ...den into owlbear things
Stop subliminallifying me

Hey, do you want to grab a bite to eat at the owlbar den?

@Yuuki do you think owlbear is a gamey meat? Or is it more poultry?

I gotta imagine that owl is pretty gamey by itself.

4:48 PM
I tried really hard to get most of that Bard homebrew to actually be in 5e terms...

@AVeryLargeBear quora.com/What-does-owl-taste-like I guess it's not either. Predatory birds are special but my question still stands

But I'm also like at work...

@OneCritWonder most of us are :) The biggest problem I have with the homebrew is many if the mechanics don't mesh well with typical gameplay which by itself would be fine but the game mechanics it focuses on are very nonspecific making the homebrew very table dependent

@OneCritWonder good effort, but I think OP needs to figure it out themselves, too. Putting words in their mouth may end up doing more harm then good.

@DavidCoffron Huh. I gotta go with gamey then.

4:51 PM
@DavidCoffron I've had both wild duck and farmed duck. HUGE difference between the two.

Aye, that's one of the reasons I didn't try to change the balance or anything I just fixed all the paraphrasing.

@NautArch I've never had duck. Which was better?

@OneCritWonder looks a bit better

@AVeryLargeBear Very different. WIld duck was gamey and more like red meat while farm duck is tender and more poultry-like (although my wife hates it).

"Make an intimidation check" -> "Make a Charisma(Intimidation) check"
"You get advantage on the attack" -> "You gain advantage on attacks against...."

etc etc
Fear monger was just a mess though and I didn't even know how to start on that one.

4:53 PM
@OneCritWonder I think the core idea of the subclass needs some work. I don't see something like this working in the system at all. Something to discuss with the OP. Good edit though
It's just VERY niche

As someone who loves them some bards and likes thinking outside the box...

Its very niche and very overpowered currently.
And I'd hate to be anyone sitting at the table alongside it currently. =/

@OneCritWonder Howdy fellow Bard lover!

@OneCritWonder yeah. I wish I could just remake it entirely with more 5e-minded mechanics tbh because it is a super cool concept
@NautArch bard is my fave class too! We should start a club

Howdy NautArch!

@DavidCoffron why not do it? Post it for review :P
@DavidCoffron We can create it at the Bar(d)

@Yuuki simiilar

@NautArch I don't usually post my homebrew for review bc I balance them for my games (which are slightly different than RAW)

Low effort puns about that class will be barred from this chat Naut...

@OneCritWonder now that was good

Its bard enough being taken seriously around here....

4:57 PM
Still want to make a pun-powered bard

Please no!

@DavidCoffron College of Pun and Limerick?

In 5e they are powered by the 'Words spoken at creation' manifested in the arts. Puns seem perfect

Speaking as someone who made fish-related puns for seven hours straight on Twitter yesterday ... I have no idea why my DM didn't want me being a Bard for Tomb of Annihilation.
