12:08 AM
Had my first pathfinder game this weekend

@Ben how'd it go?
also hey there @daze413

Ben
Still getting used to the finer details... But i

@Shalvenay o/

Ben
Still getting used to the finer details... But it was a lot Of fun

howre things over there?

12:12 AM
@daze413 fine here, as for you?

ok over here. Just DMed an AL-ish game for the first time the other day

@daze413 ah, how'd that go?

the module was kinda wonky, it had traps that could deal 3d10 damage against 1st level players, and the only encounter was against a non-official creature that is too strong

@daze413 oof, sounds like a badly designed module indeed
how many folks went splat?

none. Several DMs went to the organizers before the game and we all agreed to change some things XD

Ben
12:32 AM
I need an app or something to help keep track of my spells & uses
Am a druid

@Ben I draw circles with a pen on my character sheet then just shade them with a pencil to signify that something was used
Actually came here to look for either @nitsua60 or @KorvinStarmast, I am embarrassed to say that I still don't get what you're trying to tell me in this answer rpg.stackexchange.com/a/124927/23064

Ben
Uses aren't so hard to track. But as a druid I can freely choose from any spell selection in the druid spell list, once per day.
So I'm constantly writing them down, the rubbing them out, lol

12:54 AM
what if you write them all down and place like a check mark or something (maybe a circle) next to them to signify that they are prepared

Ben
That would be a simple solution :)

Ben
1:05 AM
Might set up a Google Doc with a bit of smarts in it... Create a short list or something as a reference

@daze413 When it comes to a plain English reading of the word berry, it is an object. That removes confusion. That's what I was getting at. It is an object that is conjured by that spell, and for a finite period of time, it has a magical property. After that, it remains a berry but without magical properties.
Look at the end of the spell description. The berry doesn't disappear, it remains a berry. A berry is an object.
As a spell, it is a bit of an odd duck.

hey there @KorvinStarmast

@aHl hello Shal
@Shalvenay Last night was fun, thanks. I am still puzzled at why Discord started for me so well, and all of a sudden died. When I went back to regular plug in headphones, problem solved.

@KorvinStarmast ahh I think I get what you mean now

@KorvinStarmast strange, yeah

1:19 AM
It's not a big deal, but until I pondered on "dn't retain their potency" bit it had not occurred to me that the berry remains after the magic wears off
@Shalvenay I hope that next time all discord problems will be zero. I will discuss with my son my config issues Ever since the latest windows patch/update my audio has been odd and weird. Both.

@KorvinStarmast it's weird, I have had very few problems with Discord until (my) Saturday

@KorvinStarmast yeah, it'd be nice if these sorts of things Just Worked for once

@KorvinStarmast are you using a dell laptop, by any chance?

@trogdor was yours buggy to?

Then (my) Sunday with you guys I had the same problem again, except I couldn't fix it

1:21 AM
@daze413 I am using a sager

@KorvinStarmast yeah everyone was super quiet
I had to crank up my main volume to just barely hear you all comfortably
And I cross checked other things

The last time my son and I messed with it, we had to mess with the bose headphones drivers ... but this time that wasn't it ... I think. scratches head

My volume was great everywhere but Discord
I have no idea what was causing it

@trogdor my youtube volume has gone bad in my speakers, soft, but not my headphones. Odd stuff since the patch.

YouTube works just peachy for me
As do all my games

1:24 AM
@trogdor Ah, but now we have a bard who can sing for us. :)

Lol

OK, I need to finish the journal entry for last night. Visit with you all later, be well.

@trogdor Some operating systems allow you to change the volume of particular applications. Some applications independently allow you to change their volume. Did you check both?

it's rather funny that I'm having an easier time of it on Linux :P

@JoelHarmon I checked on Discord itself,... Not on my computer settings

1:26 AM
@trogdor shrug

I'll go in there when I get home and see if I somehow did that Saturday,.... Fixed it temporarily somehow,.... And had the issue again Sunday
That's one reason it's so weird, I fixed it easily the day before and it then came back the next day with a vengeance

I occasionally run into problems with my wired headset at work if the cable is twisted. I assume there's an internal connection that's not as solid as it should be. So, jiggle all the hardware?

The hardware is fine, or should be, I have no issues outside of the Discord app
I can poke around at it though, I have plenty of time for that after work

Well, good luck.

1:46 AM
Mmmhmmm

2 hours later…
3:47 AM
@JoelHarmon That sounds like an electronics-suitable successor to the "percussive maintenance" method my dad always favored for mechanical systems =)
@daze413 I think I may end up with a bit of a different take on it than @KorvinStarmast. I agree with him that a berry's an "object" in the plain-English sense. And I'll concede that 5e doesn't try to strictly define terms like "object," leaving us to our common sense. So I'm with KS that I think your line "Goodberry isn't an Object (in the game's terms)" isn't a great one. Because nothing is an Object in 5e, though there are objects aplenty.
But my more-pointed point in my comment was that I think the potion of healing shows us that the designers knew how to limit the provision of something like a goodberry to another: look at how they word the potion's "or administer" clause. Since goodberry doesn't have that I'd personally lean away from charging a "whole" action to administer a goodberry. Though I'll admit that both arguments from omission and from "well, they should know what they're doing" are on the weak end.

Q: How can 3 level 11 PCs kill an Ancient Red Dragon?

Dainon StephensonOur party consists of a Vengeance Paladin with a Holy Avenger, a Pact of the Tome Great Old One Warlock, and a Pirate. We're all level 11 and we've got a few minutes before a Ancient Red Dragon comes for us. He is going to talk first, but if that fails I'd like to have a plan to try and kill it. ...

Answer: Use your hilariously overpowered homebrew class to its full potential and your victory is basically guaranteed.

7:29 AM
@Miniman There are a lot of wrong things with this question and probably deserves being closed but... Are all those snarky and/or sarcastic comments needed? T_T Then we complain about new user experience...

@Helwar Flag for mod attention.

7:42 AM
@Helwar Not needed on the question, but I needed to say it - that's why it's here not there.

@AVeryLargeBear let's be fair
that question is not "Similar"
it's completely a duplicate

You are not wrong, I was just trying to strike a friendly tone
And since I cannot VTC, I figured there was no point in saying duplicate, since y'all got that covered, and it doesn't necessarily help the asker.

@BESW Indeed

@Helwar For clarification, my comment was not supposed to be snarky/sarcastic. I really mean it.
I actually wrote a 3 paragraph answer explaining the answer You don't.
I didn't post it because it was going to be closed anyway though
@Miniman yeah, I didn't read it with close attention, but a class getting 3 features in a level and getting a feature with every ASI seems really, really wrong.

@Miniman it wasn't directed to you :) You didn't comment on the question but here :)

8:00 AM
I mean, if the devs did anything right in balancing their monsters and encounters and writing the DMG, then a 11th level party of 3 PCs should not be able to defeat a CR 24 monster (heck, this would give them an entire level) - although I have never tried it, and I do understand that we have some hilarious thought experiments on 1st level parties killing Tarrasques

@HellSaint Don't worry. That's nothing compared to what some of those features actually do.

@Miniman It's dandwiki. You don't need to read the content to know balance is not a word in their vocabulary :P

@HellSaint Incidentally, I can't be bothered writing my own answer to the tiefling damage type question, but neither of the existing answers has covered a really important issue. The question mentions slashing, which is wildly different in its implications to any of the other damage types listed. Up to you whether you want to add something about it.

@Miniman I'm reading it. "and you deal bonus damage equal to your proficiency bonus per hit"
@Miniman I thought about adding "Extra note on Physical damages"
But I'm not sure what else I should add there

@HellSaint I think it's worthwhile. Almost nothing is immune to magical physical damage, and resistance to any physical damage type is a huge deal.

8:04 AM
oh yeah, he also wants to change his resistance.
not only the damage done.
yeah, adding it

I wonder how well the question "What even IS programming, anyway? I don't understand computers" would go down on stack overflow

We could find out :P

Luckily such transliterations between topics are not how the Stack judges quality.

no, but I am curious how what is essentially the same question would be handled by different stacks
as long as "shows zero research effort" is still considered one of our criteria for quality though that question doesn't rate very well

Yes, but that's quality rather than topicality.
And to be fair, "what is an rpg" gets some very unhelpful results in Google.

8:10 AM
I think it depends a lot on the X of "What even IS X"
Many people come to RPG.se because they don't understand what the heck RPGs are and want help. SO, on the other hand, is usually frequented by people that are already programming.
One important distinction is that while RPG might be a profession and programming might be a hobby, these are edge cases. The "usual" is RPG = hobby, Programming = Job.

true enough

@Miniman added a note on that. The Dueling Ace feature from the Pirate Homebrew is just amazing. You get 1d6 for every attack, and if the enemy does anything that is not targetting you or themselves, you get +Prof, and advantage. Might as well simply instakill it.
At least its HD is 1d8. I almost thought it would be 1d20. Kappa.

8:32 AM
Hi, @all! Quick question: How the cardboard things that gm has in front of them to block player vision on his note is called in english ?

@DragandDrop DM Screen

A gamemaster's (GM) screen, also called dungeon master's (DM) screen, is a gaming accessory, usually made out of cardboard, used by the gamemaster to hide all the relevant data related to a tabletop role-playing game session, hiding them from the players in order to not spoil the plot of the story. == General description == Very often the front side of the screen just displays an illustration, usually related to the game's subject. The reverse side is most of the times filled with tables, rules and other useful gaming data. Some role-playing games have an adapted name for their gamemaster's screen...

8:52 AM
@BESW that's better :)

thx I had an hard time figuring it out. Basic things are sometimes the hardest one.

9:59 AM
For tonight's dinner I'm making Bob's Red Mill Vegi Soup Mix in a rice cooker with onion, black pepper, bay leaf, soy sauce, and calamansi juice. And I'm steaming diced potatoes and carrots in the steamer on top with some more pepper.

skimming that read as "Bob's Red Pill" and I got a bit concerned

[amused]
Bob's Vegi Soup is pretty great. I like using it for pastry fillings and burger patties too.
It's a little bland on its own but that's the point.

1 hour later…
11:16 AM
@nitsua60 That's pretty much exactly right. I learned the same phrase from my dad. Apparently, when applied gently, that was actually an effective technique for older tube TVs.

11:59 AM
@JoelHarmon my experience with tube TVs as well, though "tap" rather than "smite" would be the action taken. :)
> now the most common fix is "turn it off, turn it back on, see if that works."

the IT crowd method :)

12:18 PM
lol
it's really a useful method
I fix like 95% of my tech issues with it
sometimes the other 5% doesn't get fixed though
sometimes

12:40 PM
@HellSaint are you in the DDAL DM's group on facebook?
@trogdor Those are when it's already unplugged, right?

no
those are when I have to do something else to fix it, and I either figure it out or don't

(95% of tech-fixes in physics labs where' I've worked involve tracing cables to see what'd been unplugged and then not re-plugged.)

@nitsua60 Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Oh, I see that you have
Carry on

@SPavel Physics? Yes. It didn't go very well. And they revoked my physicist's license.

12:57 PM
@nitsua60 Now you are an unlicensed physicist? That's basically a mad scientist's background story.

Left this comment on @hideandseek's problem-player post:
There's a lot here: good answers may come your way, but I'd encourage you to also stop through Role-playing Games Chat when you've got five minutes--a lot of people there have experience dealing with troublesome, or even toxic, players in constructive ways. — nitsua60 ♦ 44 secs ago
(In case I'm not around if/when they stop in.

@nitsua60 lol,.... that happens every once in a while at work, specifically for the Ethernet cables

@trogdor Yeah. Patch-panels are too easy to completely FUBAR if you're not paying really close attention. IME.

it's just odd to me
like,... everyone loses internet when the cable that gets unplugged goes down
no one in there likes it when that happens
so,..... why is it that it doesn't get fixed when someone apparently unplugs it?
Obviously that's a rhetorical question but
It's not a bad one either

Howdy howdy!
I think a misjudged this question. Is it a dupe? I'm thinking it is now.

1:12 PM
@NautArch Not a dupe, the other is without the feat, this asks if having the feat changes anything

@Szega ah, okay
i'm not sure i like my answer, though :/

1:30 PM
@NautArch Morning! Also, I liked it at first but I do think @Szega has a point with their comment.

@Rubiksmoose Yeah, I think I'm going to add another paragraph. Sort of RAW/RAI thing.
or RAW/RAF

@nitsua60 In your AL games, how often have you felt moved to apply circumstantial advantage or disadvantage on an ability or hit roll? (Or in the games you run that may or may not be AL). I've see four different DM's approach that particular DM tool in a variety of ways. How often have you seen it as a player?

@KorvinStarmast Not very often. Advantage plenty of times from hiding, restraint, faerie fire, &c. But I'm struggling to think of a time in AL I've given advantage that isn't somewhere implicated in a rule/text.
Less than once per session, certianly.

@KorvinStarmast FYI, I may be able to join more :) One of my players (well, the wife of one ofmy players) has requested we only play ever 3 weeks or so. So :) / :(.

I think "distraction" is probably my big one that's not a "rules-based" advantage grant.
@NautArch Yay!

1:35 PM
@nitsua60 Kinda bummed for my own campaign, but yay for Bludfont!

@NautArch Oh, right. Boo! Yay! Both!

Bludfont is edgiest font.

I also set 3 level 2 players up against some giant wolf spiders/giant spiders. Encounter calculator said about 3 of the spiders would be a deadly encounter. I ended up having to increase it to 7 total spiders (5 wolf, 2 regular giant spiders) and they still wiped the board with them.

@NautArch Was that a five minute adventure day, or one of 4-6 encounters?
In other words, what resources did they have left? (I am guessing at least one dwarf in the party)

@KorvinStarmast One of 4-6 (the first)
@KorvinStarmast How di dyou know there was a dwarf?!

1:44 PM
@NautArch I just noticed this: Bludfont may rejoin us when we return to the Port with that captive pirate! Woot!
Spiders, poison resistance and advantages on poison saves.
:) Our party dwarf in our first campaign was a solid rock versus poison things like spiders. Vengeance Paladin.

@KorvinStarmast Ah, yeah. Although he's also a paladin and was running Shield of Faith for 18AC.

Woot. :) It can be a big help.

In general, I also didn't roll above a 6 most of the night. Except against the bard. I critted twice against him :)

I had to burn my whole spell load (2) as Ranger Hal during our little battle with the pirates. If we'd had another encounter, I'd have just been Mister Bow or Mister Sword.

Oops sorry I didn't realize Bludfont was someone's name. I thought it was a place in the campaign. I retract my "joke".

1:46 PM
@Rubiksmoose Too late. Damage done. No longer chatizen friends.

@NautArch The Dice Are Fickle, eh? :)

@KorvinStarmast That they are! They're about to get ambushed by some Aarakocra, though :)

@NautArch :'( </3

Speaking of, I need a trap they could have set in a snowy/mountainous pass.

@NautArch Giant snowball on a slope? That;s always a classic.

1:48 PM
@Rubiksmoose Trip wire(s) hidden in the snow?

@NautArch Depending how picky you are about making the mechanics of traps work out, I think that is a pretty solid option honestly.

@Rubiksmoose Oh, yeah - i could see that. I mean, they could also just push the snow ball down :) But I did give a clue that the snow has clearly been more disturbed than it should have been giving their recent passage through when they went that way an hour earlier.

Ah yeah then tripwire seems very reasonable to me.

@Rubiksmoose There' s ledges looking over each side of the pass, so multiple is reasonable, too.

@NautArch Simple pit trap with grid of sticks woven and barely covered in snow: hole in the packed snow dug 10+ feet deep.

2:00 PM
@KorvinStarmast Oooh, I can be an even more evil and have a pit trap...with the snowball trap just on the other side. Too evil?

@NautArch Not too evil.

Pretty cold-hearted though ;)

@NautArch A trickier one to pull off without the player characters noticing if they are looking for traps is the false cliff edge.
Narrow path up the mountain near a cliff. Where the path naturally narrows a similar fake edge of matted woven twigs is covered in snow so that it would appear to the not too observant to be the path. It is instead very easy to collapse and down the cliff/hillside you go.
If PC's are looking, or just plain observant as they come up they hill, they can likely notice the edge of the trail being a little bit 'not quite right' unless there's some illusion magic going on. (Yoiks!)

@KorvinStarmast The pass they're is more like a gorge with cliff sides going about 20' on each side.
@KorvinStarmast at this point, no caster aarakocra :)

OK, rocks and snow falls down on them.
Mini avalanche, buried in snow, have to dig out if fail Dex save or something like that.

2:05 PM
@KorvinStarmast that's more of what I was thinking of :)
Have to spend an action to dig out, otherwise basically restrained if they fail the dex save.

The one session we had with Aarakocra armed with bows against our party was bloody lethal. (Our ranged attacks were sorta cold that day, luckily the long bows started to hit). ranged weapons reminds us why having that third dimension is so powerful in battle.
My tempest cleric had to put up the fog cloud for a while so that we could heal up and go at them again ... them being spread out and shooting at us made the CC spells a lot less effective.

@KorvinStarmast ooh, were these custom Aarakocra? The MM ones only have javelins and talons.

Our DM had them armed with short bows

@KorvinStarmast That's an uptick in power (and not a bad idea). Longer Range is meaningful but I can balance with increased XP.

Thankfully, only one attack per turn. He could have armed them with light crossbows ...

2:10 PM
One of them is the Revised Ranger - that's a powerful class! He's dealing a lot of damage right now.

Heh, based on our party's results, I'd suggest you stick with javs and talons, maybe hand cross bows; that long range sniping was brutal.

@KorvinStarmast Heh :) ANd when they get back to town, they're going to be attacked by some Thugs. That should be more interesting (much more HP)

As long as your players have long bows, or something long range like Eldritch Blast, it should probably be workable;

@KorvinStarmast The ranger is golden. The bard can do VM. And the paladin has javelins, too.

Thugs in the MM, if they get on a warm streak with the dice, can wreak havoc.

2:13 PM
@KorvinStarmast yeah, they're nasty. Debating about putting a caster in, too. But I think they'l have their hands full with the thugs beating on them with pact tactics going on.

"What can I tell him?" how about "not my problem :P"

@SirCinnamon Great character! Rocks fall, he dies.

Yeah that's in it's current form too broad
If it was "What Fighter multiclass can do the most damage per round" that would be a focused enough, right?

@SirCinnamon Are we talking burst DPR or sustained DPR?

@SirCinnamon Possibly. Then there are always the myriad of questions that follow though. Is this nova DPR? If not, how many fights per long rest? Are you including spells and temporary effects? Feats? Other players? Advantage?

2:18 PM
@Rubiksmoose Almost like you cant break "best" into a single metric

@SirCinnamon Now that's a radical concept

@SirCinnamon Funny how that works huh?
I feel like we need a checklist for every charop question honestly.

@Rubiksmoose There's no good way to provide a form they have to fill out to post a charop question is there?
Love me some data validation

@AVeryLargeBear Alas, not in-stack really. I mean I'm sure there are those questions that don't need them, but I have yet to see a charop question come up that didn't overlook some sort of question about their parameters.
But then again, that is what on-hold and comments are for :)

True true. Still leaves the data nerd in me a little sad :/

2:25 PM
Well it's like when people ask "could a lightsaber cut through adamantium" or whatever. You're asking to apply rules from one universe to rules from another which obviously has no good answer. We cant tell you what will be the best character ever because we dont know your DM, campaign setting, party composition etc.
So all we can do is come up with nearly impossible scenarios where the damage would be really really high even though that is not the reality of playing and it probably leads to that character being horribly underpowered in other situations
Want the best guy ever? Roll all 18s

It's also going to be dependent on what level they'll be playing to.

I am simply looking if there is one over-powered combination like the Paladin 5, Rogue 3 Assasin combo that shred people to pieces with auto crit + backstab + level 2 smite from paladin 5. I mean, if you know anything that can dish out tremendous ammounts of damage for a Fighter, please let me know. Thank you again all — Drunken Commoner 5 mins ago
Is this even a thing?

@Rubiksmoose tell me more about Backstab. Assuming they mean Sneak Attack, but isn't Backstab an older edition thing?

@NautArch I think so. But I don't think it was even in PF. So maybe earlier than that?
But I have no idea what build would allow "auto-crit"

@Rubiksmoose I have a vague AD&D recollection of a thief with backstab. But that may have been a Shortsword of Backstabbing.
Ugh, he gets multiple questions from someone for clarification, but only answers one.

2:36 PM
@NautArch I saw. And completely ignoring some comments.
To be fair, it is a bit of a help pile, but a necessary one.

@Rubiksmoose defnitely, and that's why i kept suggesting to come in here.

@NautArch absolutely and that was a good suggestion.

@Rubiksmoose I wonder if it's bad form (I'm guessing it is) To include the questions we need answered written in bold inside their Question so it's clear.

Already 2 reopen votes :(

@Rubiksmoose i know :(.

2:42 PM
@NautArch @Rubiksmoose in OD&D Greyhawk and AD&D 1e, Back Stab was the thief's damage boost. It has since become sneak attack.

@KorvinStarmast Thanks! I knew I had heard it before but never in a game I played.

@KorvinStarmast Wow, my AD&D memory was right!

@NautArch 2e AD&D retained the 1e progression on backstab. It became sneak attack in 3e.

@NautArch I think that would be pretty confusing and I've never seen edits used that way so yeah I think that idea is probably a no-go.
But we are up to 3 reopens somehow. Sigh.

and we can't close it again :(.
@Rubiksmoose JINX

2:52 PM
@NautArch bahaha! I'll delete mine.
@NautArch I might suggest you word your a bit more strongly. At least until we know the level, there is literally no way to answer the question.

@NautArch protip: if you make everything bold, nothing is bold. Emphasis needs to be used sparingly. :P

@doppelgreener better?

Also I'm not sure that repeating the questions is going to be helpful here. They have already been asked and refused to be answered. Though I think your comment contains all the need info in one comment.

@Rubiksmoose that was my real goal
consolidation

I edited that comment to add "To summarise the questions we still need answered:" at the start.

2:59 PM
@NautArch maybe delete your previous two comments then?

@Rubiksmoose done, you can probably delete yours, too.

@doppelgreener thank you, I am out of that help pile, comments removed.

@KorvinStarmast thanks for helping me prune it down ;)

@NautArch Forgot I still had that one hiding there. Deleted.

@Rubiksmoose Wow, that looks much better!

3:04 PM
Ahh that comment section look much better now.

Sort of like my basement after I installed a new storage rack for boxes and cleaned up my server/router/modem wiring :)

It feels like cleaning my desk. There is still a bunch of stuff to do, but everything looks so much cleaner and easier to find.
hahaha I guess we are on a similar wavelength today.

@doppelgreener If they answer some (but not all) of those questions, can you go in and edit my comment as needed if I ping you?

@NautArch it'd be better to delete & repost the comment with the remainder.

@doppelgreener ok, will do.

3:06 PM
(and do that with some time delay rather than e.g. a live update :P)

So, backing up a bit, the main metric they give us is a build that I'm not even sure exists. Does anybody have any ideas about what build they are talking about? "I am simply looking if there is one over-powered combination like the Paladin 5, Rogue 3 Assasin combo that shred people to pieces with auto crit + backstab + level 2 smite from paladin 5."
Actually not "what build" but does it actually work. I'll look it up.

@Rubiksmoose getting Assassinate ain't easy.

@Rubiksmoose I've seen that build. It 1, not as powerful as people think and 2, scales really poorly since you need more spell slots which cuts down your ASIs
(Since you really need to MC into a full caster)

@NautArch Ahhh I see that is where they are getting the auto-crit from. I completely blanked on that.

@Rubiksmoose It's not technically auto crit. It's crit on hit

3:12 PM
@DavidCoffron So it is one of those cases where the numbers look great for that one level and ignores all the nitty gritty things that have to make it work? And it scales poorly?
@DavidCoffron Yeah I meant to quote their words there, but that is a very good distinction.

@Rubiksmoose well surprise is not always possible so you don't get crits(and even when you do it's only the first round), you have very limited spell slots when you first get the build. And at high levels you miss out on ASIs since you have to multiclass to have sustained damage against those powerful targets.

@DavidCoffron Given that they provided a multiclass example, I think it's clear multiclassing is allowed.

(Unless you get enough magic weapons)
@NautArch then the best answer will probably just be Fighter 2/Rogue 3/ Paladin 5 lol (if his metric is nova damage)
But nova damage is very poor in 5e imo

@DavidCoffron that's the BIG IF.
@DavidCoffron and that depends on your adventuring day.

Bc of bounded accuracy, lots of small monsters is more common than one big monster (from my experience)

3:16 PM
@DavidCoffron and that depends on your DM/Table :)

Right. So, it's a lot of Qs

and I think that's a better question to ask than recconfirming multiclass.

I've edited MC back into the question since it was explicitly written into the original.

@NautArch you are probably right, but technically the question can't be answered without verifying optional rules (you included flanking for example)

@DavidCoffron Yes, but I dno't think we need to reverify multiclass when the specifically provided a multiclass example.

3:18 PM
@NautArch well, it could have been "are there any non-multiclass builds that compare to this multiclass build?"

@NautArch Note: OP explicitly said MC was acceptable. I have edited it back into the question.

I feel it's better not to assume
But I guess we didn't have to

"One of my players wants to make the strongest fighter hybrid possible. What do I tell him?
As title says, one of my players wants me to help him make a very strong fighter, doesn't matter if it is multiclass or not." https://rpg.stackexchange.com/posts/125094/revisions
Thankfully we seem to have staunched the flow of reopen votes.

@Rubiksmoose I almost never VtR because I'm scared I'll miss a clarifying question...
I only do it when someone else asks in here or it's a question that few people have looked at

Yeah I'm generally pretty cautious about it as well. Only after reading the comments and checking edit history most of the time.

3:24 PM
@Rubiksmoose Am I going to have to calculate average ACs for possible threats to answer this question?
(If it does get clarified)

@DavidCoffron Almost certainly I would think unfortauntely.

@Rubiksmoose hopefully it's a small level window...
If it's like 1-12 (adventure module style) I'll probably cry a bit

Another question I have: this player wants a "fighter" with high damage. How many levels of fighter vs other classes are they willing to accept while still being a "fighter".

@Rubiksmoose I mean fighter 1, Warlock 10 doesn't feel like a fighter anymore. You make a good point

@DavidCoffron Dear goodness that would be pretty rough. I mean I don't do these kinds of questions because I don't find them fun really, but man I would be highly sympathetic if it turns out to be the case.

3:32 PM
@Rubiksmoose Let me finish editing the question please

@KorvinStarmast Yup. sorry about that. Was just a letter so was not sure if you were still editing or not.

no worries, I decided I need to clean it up

@Rubiksmoose I find optimization questions super fun (even though I would never make a build based on dmg only)

@KorvinStarmast Did you intend to format your links like that btw? Covering only half of the title of the question?
@DavidCoffron I used to (before I joined the stack) but now I just can't find the fun in it. Especially since I see them as pretty far from anything that really comes up at the table in real play.

3:54 PM
@Rubiksmoose yes I did. If you think it looks like yucky, by all means edit it into a better presentation.
@NautArch If I had decided that that tweet was enough, I'd not have bothered asking the question. I do understand your point, and your use of Crawford as a credible source/reference, and his position on rulings. I was somewhat surprised to see that tweet, and that ruling, given how many times we've discussed that particular familiar option over the past 3-4 years.

@NautArch I'm on the fence.
I think it might actually be ok because they really are all aspects of the same question. If the answer is "no" it is not a creature than that answers all of them. Same with "yes".
If they were asked separately I could see no way that they wouldn't be a dupe really.
