11:01 PM
@BESW I remotely followed your pumpkin pasta sauce from a few days ago today.

hey there @Anaphory

Hey!

how're things going?

I may be playing Cthuloid RPGs in the near future, one of my groups is currently mostly reduced to one player apart from me, so after hearing @BESW and @trogdor discussing Gumshoe One-Two-One, I'm considering that one for that … group, and with Halloween cropping up and people thinking about horror RPGs, I might have a dig into Lovecraftesque.

ah. currently looking for playtesters for my 2nd convention dungeon -- think minotaur labryinth with a twist ;)

11:07 PM
So… no Theseus with a red string?

D&D 5e, have a 5th and a 7th level char ready if you wish to give it a shot (the dungeon's designed for 3 5th or 2 7th levels)
@Anaphory haha. no, although I'm not at all sure what the reference is referring to

Theseus (; Ancient Greek: Θησεύς [tʰɛːsěu̯s]) was the mythical king and founder-hero of Athens. Like Perseus, Cadmus, or Heracles, Theseus battled and overcame foes that were identified with an archaic religious and social order: “This was a major cultural transition, like the making of the new Olympia by Hercules” (Ruck & Staples, p. 204). Theseus was a founding hero for the Athenians in the same way that Heracles was the founding hero for the Dorians. The Athenians regarded Theseus as a great reformer; his name comes from the same root as θεσμός (thesmos), Greek for "The Gathering". The myths...
And if you see it drawn, the string he used to find back out of the labyrinth is often highlighted in red.

ah, heheheh

@Anaphory See also Cthulhu Dark; it's lighter-weight and free, and equally detached from the Mythos lore. LCQ is more about faithfully re-creating the compelling elements of Lovecraft's original stories while ditching all the baggage; CD is more about telling your own tense stories about competent people who are woefully outstripped by the Things they face.
Both Lovecraftesque and Cthulhu Dark are basically one-shot systems, too.
If you want a system that'll support a longer horror campaign, there are a number of options depending on what kind of horror you're after. Trail of Cthulhu is obvious.

I'm still not eager to do much in that direction, but for two unrelated reasons, these two games came both back onto my radar.

Root from @LederGames is up on #kickstarter and looks amazeballs (I’m also potentially biased :P) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2074786394/root-a-game-of-woodland-might-and-right?ref=7m6xh7
Speaking of horror games...
@doppelgreener, @trogdor For next session's Halloween one-shot, do you want to play InSpectres (comedic Ghostbusters-style) or Extermination (Misspent Youth hack about teenage mutant rats trying to make the world safer for ratkind)?

11:40 PM
hey there @Ryan

@BESW I kinda like the second one
@Anaphory I can't speak for the rest of it, but the session of the cuthulu confidential that we played was great. Just be ready to throw a couple of pre described scenes out if your player comes up with something more engaging
