@Randal'Thor Louis Leithold was the mentor of Jaime Escalante, who was the subject of the film Stand and Deliver. Leithold's calculus supposedly changed how calculus was taught.
I am currently working through Serge Lang's Basic Mathematics to refresh things I have forgotten since school. It's like a compact precalculus book; it seems to be a bit more selective than the massive precalculus textbooks that are currently on the market. (I don't know whether the term "precalculus" is even used in the UK.)
@DLosc I thought Swift had invented HNQ, which looks like the abbreviation of "Houyhnhnms Neighing Quizzically".
