Q: Freudian/psychoanalytical interpretation of the triangular relationship in Toradora!

Eddie KalThe central theme in the Japanese light novel/manga Toradora! (とらドラ!) around which the entire story unfolds is the love triangle between the male protagonist Takasu Ryuji and his two girl friends, Aisaka Taiga and Kushieda Minori (Minorin). At the beginning of the story Ryuji has a crush on Minor...

A: New Literature SE Topic Challenge Suggestions Thread

Rand al'ThorMem and Zin (Mem û Zîn) This story is one of the most important works of Kurdish literature - a language group so far entirely unrepresented on our site. It's a Romeo & Juliet style romantic tragedy, written by Ahmad Khani in 1692 based on oral traditions. It's been adapted into a film (in Turkis...

@Bookworm HNQ (and interesting question/story).
08:05
Our top author tag is with 161 questions, but it's not just one or two of his works dominating like in most of our other top author tags. The most asked-about Shakespeare plays here are: Hamlet (27 questions), Macbeth (21 questions), Romeo & Juliet and The Winter's Tale (10 questions), The Merchant of Venice and The Tempest (9 questions), Julius Caesar (8 questions), Much Ado About Nothing (6 questions), A Midsummer Night's Dream (5 questions).

Q: Extremely long one-word leaves boundary

Mari-Lou AIt is an exceptional case but still worthy of attention, I feel. Currently on EL&U, there is a question about a single word in Joyce's novel, “Finnegans Wake” Meaning of “bababadalgharaghtakamminarronnkonnbronntonnerronntuonnthunntrovarrhounawnskawntoohoohoordenenthur-nuk!” The title is so wonder...

@Tsundoku Done
@Bookworm There is a feminism tag, but why no psychoanalysis?
@Randal'Thor Light novel also doesn't qualify? Light novels are not manga

The Ko Un reading challenge suggestion now has 5 upvotes; Mem and Zin already has three upvotes. Since voting on suggestions is usually slow, Ko Un might become the November-December selection. After that we have five suggestions that have gathered three votes.

Rand al'ThorThe classical Persian epic poem the Shahnameh was written over a millennium ago, 977-1010 CE, compiled in verse form from traditional mythology and history by the poet Ferdowsi. Q: How was "Symptoms of Being Human" received by the queer community?

MithicalSymptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin tells the story of Riley, and the story of her navigating a new school, people bullying him, and being outed as genderfluid to their family. Recently on Writing Twitter, there's been a lot of discussion about Ownvoices (a member of a marginalized community w...

So are we going to keep the tag?
I'm not sure. If we keep the , are we going to tag the authors as well?
Three tags for one for question just for identification sake seems like A LOT
@EddieKal I don't know much about mangas, but would it be appropriate to just remove the and put the author's name?
@EddieKal Uh why do we have a feminism tag?
I'm removing that tag, I honestly don't know why we have that tag

Q: What is the radical feminist take on Harry Potter?

DukeZhouRowling recently came out as a radical feminist, but the book series she is famous for seems to have some problems from that perspective. For instance, the main character is a male, anointed as the chosen one. (He even bears a stigmata, a tiny scar, but nothing extreme like Sparrowhawk's horrific...

^that's the post if anyone wants to roll it back
we have tags for like which I have been complaining about for AGES
Why do we still have this tag? Every single one except for Tsudonku's singular post is for story identification
20:52
@NorthLæraðr Tags such as and are still around because they have existed for a long time and we haven't made up our minds about what to do with them...
@NorthLæraðr Do you also want to take ?
yeah
@Tsundoku feminism was created last month
Oh, for that question about Harry Potter and radical feminism.
@Tsundoku Yea
21:09
If we were to go down that route, i.e. adding tags for 'feminism' etc, I wonder how well that would scale. That could lead to the creation of tags such as marxism, postcolonialism, queer-theory and for tags for every school of literary theory and criticism. As far as I know, we don't have a policy for that.
@Tsundoku The only real sub-topic tag that I can think of off the top of my head is
There's also
@NorthLæraðr And .
@Tsundoku Well I really think we should burninate
@Tsundoku I think making topic tags is a dangerous route, similar to genres
They're also not as clear cut
Hmm I swear Mith has asked WAY more questions under
I'm also not sure what to do with any manga works. Do we tag the author as well? Most mangas (if not all) automatically include and currently . Three tags is A LOT
@Mithical Ah, that's what I confused
21:16
I would say that the tags , and are for specific themes or topics in literary works, whereas is about a specific type of literary theory or criticism. But since we don't have tags for other schools of literary theory, I'm inclined to treat these two categories of tags together.
If we have why don't we create a as well?
Or ?
In my opinion, creating tags for sub-topics seems like a bad idea.
@NorthLæraðr and are much broader than the examples you give; isn't, but I think it would be difficult to define a demarcation line between the broader and the narrower ones.
@Tsundoku Perhaps we can consider the usage of the tag by the community than
@NorthLæraðr What do you mean?
@Tsundoku Or like how the community has used the tag in the past
The other reason why I want to burninate is because it's been basically used as a tag for . It's a glorified genre tag
Like you've asked a good question about it with that tag, but it might confuse new users
Sexuality and politics are broad enough with a specific theme, but time-travel seems way too niche
21:24
If is inappropriate for the story-identification questions, it's also inappropriate for my question.
I mean I think it's an inappropriate tag in general
Like I understand the point of your question is about time travel, but no other question really uses specific.. (is the term trope?) tags
So we would burninate but keep and ?
That's what I think. But some people might disagree
@NorthLæraðr "Motif". Unless you are on of those couch potatoes who like 'tv tropes" because of its alliteration ;-)
@Tsundoku Hm. Yeah.
Like (correct me if I'm wrong) but politics and sexuality aren't really a motif, because it's too broad
21:28
They aren't motifs but rather broad themes. Or theme complexes?
@Tsundoku What are theme complexes?
@NorthLæraðr Something like "umbrella themes" (for lack of a better word). They are so broad that a lot of closely related themes fit under it. It's not a regular literary term, though.
I think what I'm trying to say is that politics and sexuality can pretty much be in any book or speech or novel or whatnot. But time-travel is often associated with sci-fi. Even if time-travel doesn't need to be associated with sci-fi, it fits too niche of a role
I agree with that distinction.
22:19
Can this please be un-roomba'd? literature.stackexchange.com/q/11679/58
22:43
Done. And the roomba won't delete it again.
Thanks. :)
23:16
@NorthLæraðr New tags: and .
@Tsundoku Lol I got the ping when I was in The Sphinx's Lair and I was like "wait why am I getting tag notification on the TSL"?
thx
Do you know what our shortest tag is?
I'm surprised there hasn't been any questions about Gone with the Wind
@Tsundoku it?
@NorthLæraðr .
@Tsundoku ... huh
@Tsundoku Ooooh, it's technically "v."
@Tsundoku Fun fact: Gone With the Wind is the highest-grossing movie adjusted with inflation.
@Tsundoku Wait why is the "Cherub", "Henderson Boys" and "Robert Muchamore" tags back? I remember doing those MONTHS back.
23:29
Well, the answer to that question about Rhett Butler should be based primarily on the book, in my opinion.
Hmm was it deleted and then revived?
@NorthLæraðr That question had been roomba'd; as a consequence, the tags were deleted and so were their contents.
Ugh I need to recreate the tags. Blech. I hate re-doing tags
I undeleted the question a few minutes ago. I have access to the tag wiki orphans, where the original descriptions are still available.
Oh yeah, that'd be nice
@Tsundoku Actually I'll just recreate them. Sacrifices must be made to ascend to Tag Dooku
Or not lol
@Tsundoku Is there not a tag description for Henderson Boys?
23:36
@NorthLæraðr You can still take that one if you want.
'Hendersons Boys' is a young adult spy book series written by Robert Muchamore. Questions about this work should be tagged with [robert-muchamore].
Lol okay thanks
@Tsundoku Ohhh are you going around and undeleting the roomba'd questions?
@Tsundoku I can't see that
Wow, 5.1 questions per day
23:40
Actually, I found those questions by looking at the orphan wikis, then searching for those names and titles in this chatroom to retrieve the links to those questions.
That wouldn't work if we didn't have the question feed.
Old meta question: Should we keep undeleting this question with a negative score?. But my concern is more about questions that should be good enough but have not been upvoted.
@NorthLæraðr We've been at 5 or higher since 25 August.
@Tsundoku Huh
