@nbro Optimisation and numerical algorithms (I assume you mean numerical analysis) may be not much to most people here, but it means I have a whole lot of maths to learn first.

@MartinSleziak I used to use the qualtrics (I think) data on all the sites I wasn't a mod, and doing a bit of extrapolation from the ones where I was a mod and could get a good read across from SE data
Nov 22, 2024 14:23
@nbro having a look across all the sites I moderate, it seems like most have had a significant uptick in views since June
Nov 21, 2024 11:29
It's incredible how the number of views of our questions has increased in the last months - at least that's my impression. Maybe there's a way to get this specific data and compare with say the data we had 1-2 years ago? I'd be curious to see how the views have increased since we left beta

I finally got the bronze reinforcement learning badge! I had to tell someone.

regarding the above ^^^ it was taken care of.

@nbro The conference rocked! I got my book signed by Sutton and Barto. It was nice to have a place to focus on RL in depth.

@nbro I'm getting back to looking at the queues. I've been busy lately.
Nov 16, 2023 15:29
@nbro Thanks! That was immensely helpful.

I made it to 1000 points finally! I'll try to help out with the new review queues that are available to me.

Well I hope it can start running again. I'm happy to help out with flags for a few days, but I don't want my volunteer time here to be used up being a human spam filter.
Aug 4, 2023 08:07
Enough spam flags raised on a post will automatically delete it, and there are some measures to prevent spam from being posted, but SmokeDetector is much more effective.

@nbro I don't want to have useful discussions here with the moderation that goes on here.

@nbro There was no reason to freeze it in the first place. By you freezing the room just proves that you know that are you are in the wrong but that you can't admit it.

@nbro Or you could just use this platform for what it is for. Solely questions and answers. If you want to do other things that are not supported, just go do them somewhere else. It's pretty simple
Jan 1, 2021 14:59
@nbro Let's hope not.

The issue as I see it is that the statistical properties of well-formed natural language seem to be a massive trigger to humans accepting agency and sentience in source material. We're very easily fooled by what is essentially puppetry using language

@nbro I am also fine. Happy to hear that you returned to the site. I am thinking to restart asking questions. I am away from books last few months and almost not asking any questions except a few on HSE. I am hoping that you will continue in our site :)

@nbro Just recently I "played" with Midjourney! And it impressed me. And it became interesting for me to study the principles by which networks that generate pictures from a text description work. As far as I managed to find out, language models are used there, with which it is convenient for neural networks to interact. But I don't know anything about the structure of the neural network or how it is trained. This is to expand my horizons and improve my educational level.

Hey all - Would this question be better here on AI.SE over mechanics.SE ?
Jun 22, 2020 21:29
I think that this action wasn't fair and disrespectful towards another moderator, so I am considering stepping down from my moderator position and stop using SE sites.

@nbro Firstly, revealing mod-private data in public (like who handled a flag) without permission is a big no. If you'd like to discuss my handling of it, I'm happy to do so in the TL.

Stack Exchange users can be completely anonymous, Stack Exchange judges users based on the voting system, not credentials. This seems scary and intimidating to say the least!

Jan 1, 2021 01:01
@nbro I've never heard of a Stack Exchange user being asked to certify their background in order to be judged by a moderator. Is there any president for this kind of moderator interrogation of a user anywhere in the whole Stack Exchange ecosystem?

@nbro could you raise a flag please? can't handle it right now

I always think the close process is a bit too harsh/fast for new members that are posting with good intent. Then the reopen process is too slow, as people have already moved on to other questions. So when a new member does make a serious attempt to address question quality issues, their experience in SE is poor - questions get closed in 15 mins and may never get reopened.

@nbro done

:) I'll get acquainted with the site again. I was fairly active here two summers ago. I tried to be active again last summer, but I needed to focus on finishing up. I'm hoping I'll have more time here from now on, and I'm planning to help out. RL is too much fun. :)
Jun 7, 2022 21:07
@nbro Thank you! It's nice to put 10 years of college behind me and have a nice diploma to show for it. I completed my PhD in Bayesian optimization. I compared some standard optimization methods to DRL.
Jun 7, 2022 21:05
@nbro Thanks! That answers my question perfectly. In the question we were just discussing, I thought answering one of the initial questions would answer them all, but I guess you're right that it's probably better to save everyone's time and ask the user to make edits.
Jun 7, 2022 20:58
By the way, I just got my PhD! I finally have time to come back to this site and help out.

Q: 2022 Community Moderator Election Results

CatijaModerator election #2 on Artificial Intelligence has come to a close, the votes have been tallied, and the new pro-tem moderator is: They will be joining the existing crew shortly — please thank them for volunteering and share your assistance and advice with them as they learn the ropes! Even if I wanted, I don't think I can nominate myself. When I stepped down as a mod, I also wanted to delete my accounts (and I deleted most of them), so I was also deleting some of my posts, but the mods on Stack Overflow and Math SE suspended me for that. I don't think you can't nominate yourself if you have been suspended in the last year, although there could be exceptions.

@nbro: I think we should reserve "spammer" for posts that try to promote some external resource, anything from dodgy AI conferences to the usual pills, potions and magic finances. The site has some strong rules associated with marking content as spam, and it is inappropriate to use those tools against site users that simply don't meet site quality targets
Mar 22, 2022 08:47
@NikeDattani I really meant him. His account was deleted on AISE by me (I believe) and he had been suspended multiple times before that for poor questions. You can see that this account has only 10 months. Call him spammer or user that just asks poor questions.
Dec 14, 2021 12:56
Yeah, @nbro. I have confidence on our main site that one day it will be on the top #1 and is highly useful for people in many aspects.
Nov 17, 2021 23:29
Nice one. One needs to read it multiple times to adjust the behavior. It is inspirational.

That's good news. I'm going to be looking for some personal project idea in the new year. Usually I end the year with Kaggle's Christmas competition, and that eats all my spare time from end of novemner. Don't know yet if they'll do one this year

@JJJ Hi. Thanks for noticing this. To be honest, I don't know why this happened. Maybe the few questions that were tagged with were deleted. I will search for posts that could potentially be tagged with and tag with it. If none exists, I will delete the tags and the synonym

Another rule of thumb that I use is: if you could answer this question without having access to the code and without needing to provide code, that's probably on-topic here, but, again, this doesn't mean that the question may not contain code or you may not provide code to further explain what you need to explain
May 24, 2021 15:46
@DeepQZero Hello. Thanks for the interest and the time you're spending to improve the site! It's not always clear whether a question is on-topic here or not when it involves code. As a rule of thumb, if you think the problem lies in the code (i.e. it's a bug) and not in a conceptual misunderstanding, then you should vote to close it as off-topic. Of course, sometimes, to understand where the problem lies you need to look at the code. So, posts with code are not necessarily off-topic.
