@MartinSleziak The tag was added by one user to several questions they answered. I find the tag info not very useful (“Bacteria this is undefined coefficients method for inequalities proofs. .... How exactly it works, we can see in topics with this tag.”) Most of these answers do not mention the word “bacteria” at all.

I'm really not sure what the tag adds to any of the questions so tagged, as they all contain the text "Kullback-Leibler", anyway.

Concerning the new tag quasiisomorphism, my thought is to remove them as it is too generic (it is not as generic as "isomorphism", but still). To say the least, there is the notion of quasiisomorphism in homological algebra which is quite different from what is suggested in the tag info.

Q: How did this new user create a tag?

Math GuyAs I was cruising over the front page of questions, I noticed this question where there was a tag nonlinear initially, before it was edited to be removed. There was only edit before which didn’t change the tags. So, the OP must have created the tag. But, he/she is a new contributor. As per the he...

One problem with this tag is that the subject lies in the intersection of algebraic geometry, riemannian geometry, symplectic geometry and mathematical physics, and we already have tags for all that. I am not sure if we have more tag space for calabi yau, especially for Qs which really lies in the intersection.
Nov 21, 2024 08:11
@MartinSleziak I removed the tag for now. I am not sure if this tag is needed.

Q: Editing Tags on Calculus Questions

Math GuyWhenever I'm browsing questions about calculus(indefinite integration, definite integration and ODEs), more often than not I've seen only 1-2 tags being used, especially in old questions(6-10 years old). For example, In indefinite integration, mostly the questions either use the tag integration ...

It seems that this tag has no questions network-wide.
Nov 4, 2024 14:27
A new tag . (But it has no questions.)
Nov 4, 2024 08:16
@MartinSleziak There are some "non-XXX" tags, but here I think that would be a better choice.
Oct 22, 2024 14:52
@MartinR Yes. If the tag pops up again, I'll consider making it a synonym.
Oct 21, 2024 15:22
@MartinSleziak Would be a suitable alternative? That is an established tag with more than 8600 questions.

@Ѕᴀᴀᴅ The stub will eventually be deleted, but it is also possible to flag it for moderator attention. Moderators can manually delete stubs sooner.

@MartinSleziak The tag already exists. I've changed the tag on that question.
Aug 3, 2024 09:56
Thanks, @MartinSleziak, I might create a Meta post regarding this, and stopped myself because the PL-FOL pair is niche compared to the countless other example pairs in the same shoes, and because the more general Meta post that you recently created did not seem to garner much interest in the matter (I sensed indifference?).

Will haunted tags on migrated questions like this one be cleaned up automatically given some time, or have to be manually removed by mods?
Feb 26, 2024 10:00
Plus, a considerable proportion of the now-so-tagged posts are of low quality. I'm clearing the tag from these posts now.

@MartinSleziak IMO, this tag is likely to be categorized as some prolific user attempting to add noises to the tag system for their own benefit, and there are already some precedents for inequality-related posts.

@MartinSleziak That tag was added by the author of the answer, apparently it refers to the Julia programming language. (“I used Julia to implement the solution.”)

The current state of affairs (PL and FOL neither merged nor independent) is very bad: there are many posts tagged PL but not FOL, and currently the MSE search engine won't return them as results (meaning, these posts are harder to get noticed/found) because the system now treats every search for PL as a search for FOL instead. im ok either to merge the two tags or to desynonymise them, but i dont like this limbo status at all.

The 2018 you're talking about is when the tag synonym was proposed.
Jun 13, 2024 13:37
It was actually approved in December 2023. (By enough users voting for the tag synonym.)
Jun 13, 2024 13:24
It seems to me that this needs to be discussed on meta. The tools I have tell me that the tag synonym was created in 2018, and "renamed" yesterday (I don't really know what that means). It is very hard to track the history of tags. :/

@MartinSleziak Honestly, I think I prefer the tags and (those being the two major topics covered in introductory calculus classes in the US). But the horse is likely already long out of the barn on that one... :/

Is there some concensus when algebra-precalculus should be used versus when calculus should be used? My understanding was that precalculus was for problems aimed towards precalculus solutions. But it seems there are quite a few questions that use both tags simultaneously... Is that correct tagging? And if so, what does it suppose to mean?
Aug 28, 2023 13:55
@MartinSleziak Seems reasonable.

A: Tag management 2016

Najib Idrissi Resolved: The tag has been removed from all questions. What on Earth is the tag algebraic-identities for? It seems to me that questions containing at least one equal sign get randomly tagged with it, including questions that have nothing to do with algebra. The tag excerpt (there's no tag wi...

A new tag with 10 question. It has a tag-excerpt and a tag-wiki: "The question is about an algebraic identity and/or the answer uses algebraic identities."
Feb 7, 2024 01:46
According to that answer: "Tags not associated with any question are automatically destroyed at 03:00 UTC every day."

Q: Should the circle tag's description be modified to include disks?

DanI've asked a lot of questions about disks (example 1, example 2, example 3). There is no tag for disk, so I just choose the circle tag. But the circle tag's description is fairly clear about the scope of this tag: "For questions concerning circles. A circle is the locus of points in a plane that ...

Should a tag for discussions related to AI-generated content be created on meta? On Meta Stack Exchange there is a tag called (chatgpt).
Jan 12, 2024 22:39
I am amenable to a discussion about whether or not we need a tag for Dirichlet's eta (I don't think we do, but other's might disagree), but the Desmos 3D tag is certainly not needed.

> Alexander Gruber mentioned in chat the plans to remove the synonym (gradient) $\to$ (vector-analysis) and some further actions with related tags. This was mentioned in July and in August - I thought it might be worth reminding.
Sep 5, 2023 23:32
@MartinSleziak I've removed this tag. It doesn't seem particularly useful, and it didn't go through channels.

@Martin The tag should insead be since "prime twins" is never used in English. I'm not sure what is the best way to make this change so perhaps someone more familiar with tags can make the change.
Aug 21, 2023 07:27
so: the plan would be grad-div-curl, curl and gradient would be synonyms (not divergence, we are going to kill that tag whenever it gets created due to ambiguity with divergence in the sense of convergence-divergence)
Aug 21, 2023 07:24
tentatively, i think we can probably go ahead with it. I've gone back in the logs and reviewed the prior objections from within the mod team, and it seems like only one had objections and they are no longer active, so between that and the votes on meta I think we can call it a consensus
Aug 18, 2023 12:58
I marked it and left a comment.
Aug 18, 2023 12:31
Probably should be made a synonym of , given that the former only contains 12 posts, while the latter has 90.
Jul 19, 2023 02:24
I also can't touch it until the strike resolves, though.
Jul 18, 2023 21:18
@MartinSleziak I 100% agree that and should be synonymized. My preference is to keep and make the other a synonym. Do you have thoughts on this? Also, I'm not touching it until the strike is over, so I would appreciate a ping (if you happen to remember).
Jun 17, 2023 13:20
I'm just afraid the amount of questions I'd need to edit is large, and I don't want to be "spamming" the system. Not sure how it works
Jun 17, 2023 13:09
How should one approach re-tagging questions after a new tag has been added? For example, I'd like to add the tag math.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/realcompact-spaces to the answers that already mentioned realcompact spaces but the tag didn't exist yet. Should I do it or leave those questions alone?
May 21, 2023 12:49
The tag seems premature to me. As far as I understand, this tag should be added to those Q&A that are intended to turned into official FAQ so that the community can discuss over them and polish the content. It doesn't look like the OP here has such an intention (the UI even indicates that they are a "new contributor" on Meta, so it's unlikely they actually intended to propose a new FAQ). Better to remove the tag for now, in my opinion.
