I have been away for the weekend, 275 km of Velomobile cycling, and at no moment I was futher than 25 km from a city or town, maybe even less, and all on-road or cycle path.
@NikeDattani Thanks very much! Glad to still be moderating, and delighted by the quality of candidates - looking forward to modding alongside WedaPashi and Willeke
@Liam and @CharlieBrumbaugh - I understand you may both be annoyed at the other, but please realise you both are trying to do good things - I don't see anything that suggests otherwise
Ok so I don't pop in here much anymore, and I'll let you guys know why... I've spent the last year working exceptionally hard and it's paid off and I've received a promotion at work :)
@Sue yeah - I think there are positive effects from normal humans going somewhere nice, posting pics and encouraging others. It's the top instagram folks who can destroy places with a single post, as they have so many followers
@Erik You will not be eaten by a hippo. Hippos are vegetarians. They will merely bite you in two and leave you lying, bisected, on the ground. Feel better?
I just have the concern that really this site is about the outdoors. Fossils are one tiny part of it, and dinosaurs a tiny part of that - so having all these tags is not going to help
Need to SCREAM! Does anyone understand why people move to a woodsy region if they see animals as pests to be displaced? One of my neighbors is at the end of her tether with the chipmunks (chipmunks!) because they dig unsightly holes and may harm her flowers. If you can't coexist with a chipmunk, what are you doing off asphalt and concrete? Just move into an expensive high rise, lady.
I just want to tell every body thanks. Being on this site has definitely improved my writing and all of the upvotes/responses/views is a real confidence booster when it comes to writing things.
Sigh. I don’t understand why some people are so keen on pushing questions to other sites. There’s a comment on the wasp question saying it might better fit biology.se. Any question on animal behaviour could move there. Ugh. People are so lame sometimes.
Re the proposed Rules of Conduct: Sounds as though the drafters are running a kindergarden. Especially if comments about the answer being easily Googleable are deemed "not nice". there is a "nice" was and a "not nice" way to say that, and the nice way may help someone learn. Not pointing out that a Q could have been quickly answered by Googling fosters dependency.
@WedaPashi About 1030 km. I'll upload a track to wikiloc later, but my route started near Frankfurt am Main (Germany) and roughly followed the rivers Main, Tauber, Wörnitz, and Lech to the Alps, then with the Via Claudia Augusta over the Fernpass (Austria) to the Inn valley and over the Reschenpass (border Austria/Italy) to the Etsch/Adige valley, with an excursion through Valsugana to Bassano del Grappa (Italy) at the envery end.
@Rory I don't get confused, but my cat is constantly interfering when I am on the computer. He is a dear, but he resents when he is not the focus of my attention. He hates my being on the computer!
