@Liam - I have reopened that question and added in a wee map to show Dunkirk, the Wash, Kent etc
If you are going to answer, I'd suggest a map of your Grandfather's route from Wales, and maybe some detail about his boat would be excellent
@RoryAlsop cool

Hmmm
I'd always presumed it was a lifeboat my grandad sailed to dunkirk but it's not on the list
The Little Ships of Dunkirk were about 850 private boats that sailed from Ramsgate in England to Dunkirk in France between 26 May and 4 June 1940 as part of Operation Dynamo, helping to rescue more than 338,000 British and French soldiers who were trapped on the beaches at Dunkirk during the Second World War. == Overview == The situation of the troops, who had been cut off from their advance into France by a pincer movement from the German army, was regarded by the British prime minister Winston Churchill as the greatest military defeat for centuries; it appeared likely to cost Britain the war...
Might prompt some more investigation this

@Liam Yay! Huge congratulations! Don't you just marvel at the technology that enables us to see our children like that? How old is your baby?
@Aravona Ha, ha! Actually, my Christmas cards usually have big cats, like lions, or little friends, like chipmunks! We do polar bears too. I get them from the World Wildlife Federation so whatever they send in their random collection is what we use!
I didn't realize how beautiful and different the European Robin is! I can see now why I have to be careful when referring to regional animals.

@Sue that's fair, I like getting charity cards as well but I'd say a good 50% of cards in the UK have Robins on!

@Aravona Maybe it's because your robins are a bit prettier! Most of the winter bird cards around here have male cardinals. I think that's because the bright red bird is pretty against the white snow!
Are cardinals different in Europe too?
