I like to sing along with countertenors. That's about my range.
Upper end, I mean.
I'm sure they can sing lower than I.

user19161
@SpareOom Wow you are one of the few who use I rather than me in that sentence!

lol, that face

user19161
@MattЭллен Left or right?

I use me sometimes too.

12:02 AM
perfect freezeframe
@JasperLoy right

He's their bass, and has a sense of humor too.
This group is great because they're all good, but their point is the music itself, not to shine as individuals. Their ensemble is superb.

user19161
@SpareOom A capella is also not my type.

They don't always sing a capella.

user19161
@matt You not in bed yet?

@JasperLoy yes
I'm trying to use up all my votes on questions

user19161
12:07 AM
@MattЭллен You may give me some presents.

@JasperLoy alright :D

They had a German album that had a lot of piano with it.

user19161
@MattЭллен Shh...

user19161
My favourite tenor is still Carerras. He can't hit the high notes too well but he is the most expressive singer.

I've already up voted many of your questions before!
anyway - not too many vote in the same place at once

user19161
12:09 AM
@MattЭллен You may use your votes on answers too.

@JasperLoy yeah, but I'm aiming for the electorate badge!
you don't get that for voting on answers :D

user19161
@MattЭллен You may downvote the already downvoted questions!

well, I have enough answer votes to get it

@JasperLoy - Carerras sometimes sings slightly out-of-tune. This really grates on my ears, so he could never be my favourite. If I had to pick one, it would probably be Domingo.

user19161
@DavidWallace While I like Pavarotti for his resonance and Carerras for his expressiveness, Domingo does not particularly attract me in any way.

12:17 AM
@JasperLoy Fair enough. I've always been a fan of technical brilliance; which is part of why he attracts me. But I'm fond of Pavarotti too.

user19161
@DavidWallace There is a guy who can still hit high notes at an old age, Alfredo Kraus.

How high?

user19161
@DavidWallace Well, for tenors that means high C.

Sure, but a world-class tenor should be able to go a tone or two higher than high C.

13 votes to go! yeah

user19161
12:20 AM
@DavidWallace I would think nature has a part to play too. Different tenors have slightly different ranges.

good night sweet EL&Uers

@RegDwightѬſ道 Good night!

Not me.
I have a war to win.

user19161
@RegDwightѬſ道 It's always confusing.

Only for you.

Sure, and Kraus was known as a lyric tenor; which probably means that he could sing higher than someone known as a dramatic tenor.
Good night Matt.

user19161

I shall listen to that later - my son is watching some trashy TV programme in the same room as my computer, so I wouldn't get to properly appreciate the (no-doubt) beautiful sounds in this recording.

user19161
12:23 AM
That's Alfredo Kraus above.

user19161

user19161
Oops, I think this is a better version.

OK, I'll listen to that one instead, but later.
I'll let you know how high he gets too.

user19161
It's a high C. It's a well-known aria.

OK, cool.

user19161
12:32 AM
Nessun Dorma is only high B though but it is the most famous tenor aria.

Yes, but it has been somewhat overdone, I feel.
It's the one tenor aria that everybody has a go at. (Nessun dorma)

user19161
Well, my last song for you tonight, Andrea Bocelli.

user19161

user19161
Over and out!

@JasperLoy Good night.
@JasperLoy That one's not my favorite music style, though I like his voice.

12:40 AM
I prefer deeper voiced men with richer harmonics in their voice. Big fan of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (even though I'm not sure if I've spelt his name right)
Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (born 28 May 1925 in Berlin) is a retired German lyric baritone and conductor of classical music, one of the most famous lieder (art song) performers of the post-war period and "one of the supreme vocal artists of the 20th century". Fischer-Dieskau was ranked the second greatest singer of the century (after Jussi Björling) by Classic CD (United Kingdom) "Top Singers of the Century" Critics' Poll (June 1999). The French dubbed him "Le miracle Fischer-Dieskau" and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf called him "a born god who has it all." At his peak, he was greatly admired ...

@DavidWallace Is there a particular link you'd recommend? I not familiar with lower solo voices. I found Andreas Scholl by accident once, but didn't look for his equivalent for baritone or bass.

@Cerberus Great. Just what I needed to fall asleep for good.

Gute Nacht!
Sacht, sacht, die Türe zu. (Is it really sacht? I didn't even know you stole that Dutch word.)

So what do you wish your mobile phone could do that it can't do right now?

Be fast and reliable, have more applications made for it?

well, in terms of applications

As in things that your average Android phone can't do with the right programmes?
I wouldn't know.

@Cerberus Or things that your specific phone can't do because the program doesn't exist

1:27 AM
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Oh, where do I begin?
I would like a Dropbox application.
I would like to play Youtube videos while locking the phone.
And Youtube playlists that go on automatically.
What else...
Oh, a gesture program like Strokes Plus.
Why?

Just fishing for ideas for an app

Ah. Well, my phone is very old.
So these things may already exist for modern phones.
Make a programme that easily downloads and saves Youtube videos?
If that doesn't exist yet on a certain platform, it will be hugely popular.

@Cerberus That could be popular, but likely not going to win me many friends in the app store or at google

Do you need those stores?
Just set up a site where you sell the programme.
With instructions how people can root their phone if they can't otherwise install it.

heh I haven't even rooted my phone yet
mainly because doing so will factory-reset it and I don't want to bother with the hassle
actually on android you typically don't need root to install third-party apps
(although it might depend on your carrier)

1:43 AM
i was going to suggest something social and meaningless (which is what becomes popular these days) like being able to draw something over a real-time video stream from the phone camera when recording a person but then realised you shouldn't make people frustrated with their drawing skills ;(
@Cerberus GoldenDict has an Android version by the way, which costs moolah

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Oh, that is annoying...free our phones!
@Vitaly Hmm interesting.

can Android phones connect to computers and act as drawing tablets?
though it's difficult to envisage that becoming popular

@Vitaly Even my ancient Windows Mobile phone can do that.
I can display its screen real-time on my desktop. And manipulate it from here too.

@Cerberus wow really? and what's the app called?

MyMobiler.

1:50 AM
@Cerberus What is considered old for a mobile phone? I think I have an antique.

And "app" is an Apple word: I despise it.
@SpareOom It is from ca. 2007.
For a smartphone, that is antique.
For a B&W candybar, that is still quite modern.

My phone isn't even smart.

So you have to compensate?

I use it as a phone.
Oh, and an alarm occasionally.

@Cerberus i'm looking at the description and can't see where it says that it can act as a drawing tablet, and not just display its screen on your computer desktop, but okay, i suppose i'll believe you because i can't be bothered to get my antiques out anyway

1:52 AM
@SpareOom Clever.

Well I'm out for today. Night all!

Good night.

@Vitaly I thought you meant just being able to display a drawing on your phone live on your computer (as for making a drawing during a video call as you mentioned), but perhaps you mean the thing professional artists use to draw in Photoshop and such?

6 mins ago, by Vitaly
can Android phones connect to computers and act as drawing tablets?

1:54 AM
It can't do that, and frankly I don't think a small screen would be any good, not to mention texture?

^ that means being able to control the mouse cursor on your desktop via your phone

It looks like my phone is from 2006. I see someone trying to sell one for $75.00. Rip off!

@Vitaly Ah OK. Well, I used to have a programme that could remote control my computer: at least I could click on the desktop by tapping my phone's screen and use (hot)keys. I would imagine an application exists now that can drag in addition to that, and presto.
Some kind of Team Viewer.
If that doesn't exist yet, I'll be damned.
Actually, perhaps that old application could drag too. I don't remember: it was too buggy anyway, and my phone was too slow.

I just noticed it has a built in unit converter.

@SpareOom Wow seriously??
Mine sold for € 40 in 2010.

1:58 AM
Seriously that I just noticed after so many years, yes, sadly.

But, if it is a popular, stable, reliable model that is the acme of its genre...

@Cerberus Maybe it's considered a museum piece already at that price.

This should do it. If Team Viewer can't drag I am a bunny.

Oh well.

@SpareOom Yours?
@Vitaly It is impractical anyway: it will never be nearly as smooth as those professional things, and the screen is too smooth.

2:01 AM
Mine must be a museum piece by now. What else would explain the high price tag?

Heh.
Some people want simple phone; perhaps yours is the best simple phone ever made.
Or perhaps you saw one guy asking $ 75 for his phone that he would never, ever get.

Honestly, I don't remember what I paid for it originally, but I probably got it on sale.

wow, i just realised my favourite PDA will be 10 years old in 2 years
