10:00 PM
Yes, you will! Ask @Rinzwind...

@anonymous2 just considering it...
@Fabby He was a mod???

What a world of surprises.
@JacobVlijm, I would encourage you to consider it. Even if you don't get in against the fairly stiff competition which is threatening to emerge, it will serve to force voters to consider a bit more carefully whom they're voting for, rather than voting by default.

@JacobVlijm He never was and never will and he's been around for a long time...

Hey guys.
@ParanoidPanda Yes, I'm back from my week off.

@Fabby AHA, I thought so...

10:04 PM
And I saw the site burning and going down in darkness and chaos... :-/

@ByteCommander Why?

Going to have a strong argument with this Shog guy about his vote reversal script! >:P

I left him a note and a comment...

And after that, going to nominate myself for the mod elections.
But those missing 6.6k points really hurt my candidate score.

user136984
I'm just writing my speech for that, why does it have to have a 1,500 character limit? Why???

user136984
10:06 PM
:D

meh: not like you lost 6600€

Couldn't he at least have waited until after the elections? Then I'd have had a 38/40 score.

user136984
Yes, I was thinking that too... So would have I...

user136984
But maybe he did it here specifically because of the elections.

Now it's only 31 or so...
Phhh...
I'm going to strongly disagree.

user136984
10:07 PM
I think you're at 34 or something actually... I'm at 32...

Do you know what a feeling that is? You get back from the hospital after a week, turn your computer on and log in to check your messages, glance at your profile score and the only thing you can do is to shout "Holy cow!" over and over?

I at least insist on getting informed about the rules of his script. Probably it reversed almost everything the affected users did to each other...
And this can't be the correct way to go. No.
And it would also be different if we only talked about votes. But we're also talking about ACCEPT votes and from what I've heard, bounties as well. Some posts seem to have entirely disappeared as well (not even 10k-visible).
Have you ever seen somebody serially accepting or bountying another user?

user136984
@ByteCommander: Well, the system accused me of serially accepting Fabby's and A.B.'s answers (I was asking lots of questions and they were providing great answers, that's all the large amount of accepts for them mean, not that I was maliciously voting for god sake) and then reversed all the reputation...

user136984
I also upvoted all those answers... Which made things worse...

user136984
I don't know, apparently most of the work was manual and not done by a script so that just makes it all even more crazy...

user136984
I mean, maybe there was something going on, but me accepting lots of answers from the same people who are the most active people on the site shouldn't really count as me being involved...

10:22 PM
who moderates what Shog does?

user136984
Right, back to my speech now... :)

user136984
@edwinksl: Maybe the SE devs...

@edwinksl The shareholders...

i sure hope so

@ParanoidPanda Nope: he is a dev...

user136984
10:23 PM
Oh dear...

@ByteCommander Yeah, I'll wager the SE devs are in hot water now.

i get why they are concerned about vote collusion
but so far there is no evidence of that

@edwinksl Who watches the Watchmen? :-/

or at least Shog has not presented concrete evidence
although i am not affected, i still want to see Shog justifying why he did what he did
i prefer not to take his word at face value and "trust" he did the right thing

There! I'm back to my Vorlon form!

user136984
10:25 PM
@Fabby: Are you?

It'll take a while to replicate over...

I'm going to ask him for the detailed criteria for which he reversed actions. I accept the actions if he can justify them to me and show evidence. But probably he can only really justify not even half of what they did!

@ByteCommander yes you should demand him to explain his actions

@ByteCommander You won't get that...
It's a "secret algorithm"

@Fabby so this is what i would call heavy-handed moderation

10:27 PM
For example, it unaccepted answers of Serg and Jacob Vlijm to my questions. (which I know because unaccept events showed up seperately in my rep log)

(or creative people like me will still find a way around it)

I NEVER EVER serially upvoted any of their posts on target.

@edwinksl I'm not saying it isn't...

the burden of proof is on Shog

They both simply always posts great answers into which they put great effort.

10:28 PM
I'm just saying that SE doesn't care about the users: what I'm saying is that it only cares about the site itself!

Am I no longer allowed to respect and reward that?

but i don't think SE wants to use AU power users leave though

@Fabby We will see what I get. I can be bullheaded as well!

Folks - let us not forget... votes a virtual.

I wont threat to abandon the site though. That's simply in no relation and not what I want.
@RolandiXor Sure, the whole site is virtual. You are virtual to me and Shog is as well.

10:31 PM
@edwinksl Meh, I left already: not enough time...

I still care about it.

The people are real.
The votes and reputation are not, however.

@RolandiXor that does not imply people should remove reps without justification

Sure they are real. Votes are one of the core concepts of the site.

if they can do so, why bother with votes and reps in the first place

10:32 PM
@RolandiXor First rule of management: Praise in public, chastise in private...

@edwinksl I am not saying that.
@Fabby good rule.

And While the reputation score itself is virtual, the privileges and prestige resulting from it are not.

And Shog9 violated that rule... :P

No.
Ultimately SE has a policy to enforce. Sometimes they might mess that up, but sacrifice is a key to growth.

I left him a private message disclosing the "voting fraud" I committed, but IMHO, you can't just retro-actively pull the rep down. What he should have done is incorporated it on the voting fraud algorithm...
(and use it from that point forward)

10:35 PM
@Fabby did he actually call it "fraud"?
that's a strong word

That is how you enforece...

What exact policy are you talking about?

@edwinksl Nope: that's what me, myself and I called it...

@Fabby ah ok, just wanted to make sure

@ByteCommander The policy is:
Thou shalt not upvote users, just questions/answers...

10:37 PM
The problem is that he probably undid all kinds of voting, including accepts and bounties, between every pair of users that meets a specific criteria, starting from Adam and Eve.

I'm an old fart: we used to have a policy that Porn, abuse, violence, ....

Did he publicly call you out for that?

...were not allowed to be downloaded at work.

You can't just say: "Oh, X upvoted 5 posts of Y on that day - lets simply nuke all actions between them from the past five years!"

but we didn't enforce it unless someone started downloading entire DVDs...
And they always got a stern talking to first before enforcement took place...
But then: I'm a nice guy...

10:39 PM
Yeah, this sudden action without warning is another point I'm angry about.

We never had to actually enforce anything after the stern talking-to

His script wasn't even working properly yet when he ran it!

@ByteCommander Don't be angry about it

I AM.

O_o

10:41 PM
It's not mainly about those 6k points - they took me about 3 months and I can regain them sooner or later. It's still almost 1/3 of my total score though.
However, I'm angry about how this whole thing happened in general.

user136984
@Fabby: You weren't actually accused of voting fraud though were you?

@ByteCommander Bear in mind that @Fabby lost over half. 17k. Just saying, he's qualified to make judgments on it.

@ParanoidPanda No, but I acted on the borderline of decent...
and can understand that it upset the high-up devs...

I'll candidate at the mod elections anyway. Loosing those points makes my candidate score look much less pretty, but I still have a valid chance. With a diamond, I would never have to worry about points again...
@anonymous2 So? A third is nothing then?

@ByteCommander With a diamond, you won't have time to get more points...

10:43 PM
@ByteCommander Nope. Not a bit of it.

Ts...

Anyway, I need more sleep!
Pumpkin! ;-)

Me too, but I'm far too excited now.

Drink a bucket of ice cold water!

@Fabby Pumpkin?

10:45 PM
That'll cool you down!

I always thought this means "firefighter" by the way, because that's "pompier" in French ;)

You know!!! If I stay up after midnight, I'll turn into a pumpkin!

user136984
I think time for me to go to bed now too, I've mostly written my speech, just need to shorten it up a little now... But I think that I will do that tomorrow. :)

Ah! :D

user136984
Goodnight all! :)

10:46 PM
(thus "Pumpkin" = "Good night"

Night Panda.

Good night :)

Night Fabby.

@RolandiXor is that a pic of you in your avatar?

Going to prepare my nomination article and my arguments for the discussion with Shog. Probably I'm going to have nightmares or accidentally eat my pillow.

10:48 PM
:D :D :D

So: Night myself!

I'm going to have a smoke, then come back, then shut down
so Good night @ByteCommander

11:02 PM
@Fabby yep
That's me while I was contemplating whether to invade your hapless planet or not.
@ByteCommander pillows are surprisingly nutritious. For bacteria.

@RolandiXor not much here you'd want, methinks :P

@Seth so I have learned.
Now all I find myself contemplating is why I'd thought up invading your world in the first place.

Man, I so need to come to Barbados:

Is that you?

Your suntan looks better then mine ---^ @RolandiXor ;-)
Yup!
(Sorry, forgot the wink!)

11:09 PM
aww the picture has been removed

lol my suntan is natural :P - not quite solar powered

Yeah? Try coming here!

I would barely lose a shade :)

6 months and it'l be washed off!
I had a friend from Martinique and he lived in Paris for 3 years and then went back home...
1/ he got a terrible sunburn
2/ his complexion when he came back was much darker!

mine hardly changes even when I'm in a lot of sunlight

11:12 PM
my point exactly: try having 6 months of rain and snow and no sun... ;-)

won't change much lol
I am indoors all day

you won't look as bad as me, but you'll still look like a vampire to your own mum!
;-)
Enough bantering: SLEEP!!!

Anyone heard of the Remix Mini?
@Fabby you lost 17k?!
18k

@Fabby you look kinda pale, like you're made of marble or something
@Zacharee1 I own one

11:24 PM
How is it?
I can get one for $50 because I downloaded Remix OS for PC

Its decent if you want a cheap, flexible set top box type device

could be handy

I'd find it more useful if it did composite out ._.
ironically

What the hell
µTorrent started playing an ad for Verizon with audio and no way to mute it

@Zacharee1 why are you runnint utorrent? :(

11:27 PM
To download Remix for PC
BitTorrent's blegh now

I run qbitorrent mostly

idk

I have picotorrent on one windows box - its rediculously minumalist, and I can't use a torrent client without a rss feed feature

why would you need RSS?

@Zacharee1 automated downloads
I can't go into more detail, cause yanno.

11:30 PM
why would you want things to download automatically?

Things that happen every week, and arn't linux livecds?

Every new cracked game you want downloaded by itself?

@Zacharee1 I don't pirate games ;p

orly

11:31 PM
ylro

I'm a cheapass and tend to grab anything free, or pay at least 40% less than retail price
but I never pirate games

lol

I wouldn't download a car either.

If I could download a car.......
2 mins ago, by Journeyman Geek
I can't go into more detail, cause yanno.
That made me think illegal

@Zacharee1 I neither confirm nor deny that.
Cause we don't discuss piracy here ;)

11:34 PM
huehuehue

11:48 PM
It's a RSS feed that has a "hot new Linux distribution of the week" to try out.
I was subscribed to one of those once
i wasn't able to keep up with all the different distros

11:59 PM
I subscribed to a linux mag that bundled an article on the strength of a particular distro over others and a livedvd at one point. Not to install, but it was nice to have different "here's a flavor and what it's good at doing" from time to time.
