@TheBrownOne nice ! as a teacher ? :)

Wait the brown one is a teacher.

user139252
@cl-netbox Yep! Except it's state-testing week, so I'm just preparing for the next year :P

6:02 PM
@HenryWHHack I know ...
@TheBrownOne I wish you the very best ! good luck ! :)
@ParanoidPanda should be some I guess ... :D are you better now ? is most of the flu gone ? :)

user136984
@cl-netbox: Yes! But I have nearly 300 unread emails!!! :O

user136984
:D

user136984
Well, it wasn't as bad as I predicted it could be actually, I thought it would be closer to 500...

@ParanoidPanda oh my dear ... 300 ! :D

@ParanoidPanda :O
(Hi to all of you again btw.)

user136984
6:07 PM
I think I need to do something about all the mailing lists and newsletters etc I'm signed up to...

Hey @ByteCommander Hello ! :)

user136984
Because I don't actually read them! They just clog up my emails! :D

@ParanoidPanda not the worst idea ... :D

I won't even get 300 spam mails in a whole year on all my accounts together...

@ByteCommander same here ! :D to be honest : not even one ! :D

6:09 PM
I don't get any spam.

god i get about 1500 per day lol

@Videonauth crazy ... or do you mean letters in your post box ? :D

na emails

user139252
I don't get spam.

@Videonauth ((((O)))) _____ ((((O))))

user139252
6:10 PM
I get about 10 product emails a day from shops I actually like

but actually i have another problem

user139252
They usually contain promo codes for some really good deals

something lets my router send multicast requests

It's all about organizing things ...

and this is spamming my ufw firewall

6:12 PM
@Videonauth I have a utm with a spam filter. :)

I am leaving ... goodbye ... see you ! :)

I prefer to filter my spam myself. Most of them are false positives anyway.
Bye @cl-netbox, have a nice evening.

user136984
@cl-netbox: Bye! :)

@ByteCommander Thanks - same for you ! :)

@cl-netbox Bye! :)

6:14 PM
@ParanoidPanda see you ! :)

@ByteCommander have a look paste.ubuntu.com/16638017

@HenryWHHack goodbye :)

So many! :) emojis

@Videonauth OMG ... what are you doing ? :D ... bye :)

Q: Where are my lost cron jobs?

JacobI just started a job as a new dev at a small company. I was supposed to be one of two devs, but the other one quit the day after I was hired. Seriously? Yes, seriously. So here I am sitting on lots of code that I am working on getting, and then I find out that in order for the company's webapp t...

6:15 PM
@cl-netbox if i would know whats causing that i would shut it down
224.0.0.1 is multicast request and it seems to come from my router

@Videonauth Exactly 666 lines - your firewall is possessed! Go away, evil spirit! I have garlic!

im banging my head against a wall here since hours and the list grows every 2 minutes by another entry

Anonymous
@Videonauth what list

Anonymous
6:17 PM
is this the german guy hacking you?

syslog; fail.log, ufw.log
no its my router it seems and i have no clue how to shur it down

@Videonauth, are you hacking yourself?

:-/ dudes, not funny right now i just delted logs worth 4 GB just from today

6:19 PM
could be Angela doing the work.

Angie? o.O

exact every two minutes

What model is your router?

@ByteCommander Merkel

I knew which Angie you meant.

6:20 PM
fritzbox 6360 cable

@ByteCommander is that the affectionate way to call her?

@Videonauth I got a 6340 cable.

yeah but it has something to do with me yesterday installing ubuntu server

@jokerdino Not really. That's the general nickname used everywhere, mostly in satire.
@Videonauth No, it hasn't. Mine is a normal 16.04 desktop.
And I also got the same amount of messages on every Ubuntu system with UFW here.

yeah but i hadnt that before and i not have this mess on my laptop

6:23 PM
Probably you did not have UFW before?
Or configured differently?

yeah but wich port is getting blocked
i only have three open ports
80 443 and 21

I have no manual rules, just installed gufw, enabled it and set the profile to Home.

I have only Status: active

i think i have the culprits
just now to find out how to set them not running on multicast
and my router seems just to answer
hah i think i found it :D
@ByteCommander do a ifconfig -a if your network cards running in multicast mode
if yes
ifconfig <networkcard> -multicast
this silences it
here the line for my wlan card
ifconfig wlp6s2 -multicast
yeahhhhhhh ... silence in the logs :D

6:36 PM
      UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
That means yes...
And what is this multicast good for?

for me not any longer
hopefully

Actually I don't think I want to disable it after having a quick glance at Wikipedia. Sounds useful.
I guess I just ignore the UFW logs.

well for me it logs in 5 different logs the same crap
mean 4gb log just for from midnight till now
and its still going on :-s

I got news on that. My modem died and I am getting a new one ... 300 mbit.
Funny thing: monthly price went down 1e98 a month >:-D

:O
;____;

6:44 PM
well ok it getting less at least
now i ony get in requests

user136984
@Rinzwind: Was it you who said you knew someone who only even used HTTPS and refused HTTP or was that someone else? Anyway, I have become like that now, I now have things set up to reject all HTTP traffic so my paranoia just went up a little. :P

@ParanoidPanda yes and he got hacked :=D

@ParanoidPanda Who is Arthur Dent?

@ByteCommander you need to be educated more. Go pick up the books named Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or watch the movie.
Oh and ALWAYS carry a towel with you!

42

6:49 PM
@jokerdino and that! :=D
and also realize WE do not own this world. Mice do.
And dolphins liked the fish we gave them :P

Well... Probably I really should.
But for now, the weekly Doctor Who episode will have to be enough.

user139252
Doctor Who!

user139252
@Rinzwind And you should be careful about those in your life, even if you think they play a very small role...

user139252
You could accidentally be the cause of every single one of somebody's deaths in each of their reincarnations

user139252
And they might start remembering you...

6:54 PM
@ByteCommander sorry? what weekly doctor who? are you THAT behind? >:)

user139252
And then ask to be reincarnated as something nasty so that they can kill you :P

@Rinzwind Yes. Blame EinsFestival, they stopped the two daily episodes and reduced it to one per week... :-/

user136984
@TheBrownOne: And they create a large statue of you killing a fly with your slipper... And a sort of room dedicated to your horrors... :P

how many seasons are there? I might get started on it some day.

user139252
I loved that one :P

user139252
6:56 PM
Doctor Who? Depends. Old series, 2005 reboot, or combined?

anything that is relevant
wait, how old is the old series?

user139252
It started back in the 60's.

Nope.

user139252
William Hartnell was the very first doctor, and a darn good one at that.

There are the episodes with Matt Smith currently on TV in Germany... Doctor number how many is that?

6:59 PM
11

user139252
spoiler alert: (12 if you count the War Doctor)

The first episode I saw was "The 11th hour", which is doctor who 2005, season 5, episode 1.
That was the first one they broadcast on EinsFestival a few months ago.
And last Wednesday, they showed "The girl who waited", season 6, episode 10.

user139252
That one was lame.

I've seen all episodes in between, but not more yet...

user139252
They made it sound like it was going to be such a great, moving episode

user139252
7:06 PM
And it was just "eh"

Yes, it was kind of strange...

That latest one was a good episode, with him in the time prison thing

@TheBrownOne eh, true.

"The time of angels" / "Flesh and stone" were really exciting, I think. Those were the episodes with the weeping angels.

weeping angels are always fun.

7:10 PM
:D

not that I have seen too many full episodes.

user139252
I've seen every televised episode.

user139252
Including the original series.

Well David tennent cheated and got two regenerations - remember his hand?

xD They sell soft rubber figures in the shape of weeping angels as stress reducing toys!

user139252
7:12 PM
@Mateo That wasn't a full regeneration, though, right?

user139252
Otherwise, with War Doctor, 11 shouldn't have existed

technicality, don't remember how it was explained

iirc it was done within 24 hours of his regeneration or something so it was a writeoff..

I have seen far too few episodes yet to follow this discussion entirely... :/

user139252
@Seth But Captain Jack lugged the thing around for a while...

user139252
7:15 PM
Eh, I'm sure they explained it somehow

user139252
@ByteCommander Even Better:

So. I need to travel some 230 miles. Greyhound bus or Amtrak?

user139252
Greyhound is usually more affordable

There's a $12 difference right now.

7:18 PM
@TheBrownOne Okay, and what is an Adipose?

sounds like fat
I remember a adipose tissue being yelled in my bio class

they are some kind of fat based aliens, yes.

user139252
They were super cute baby aliens made out of fat.

Ah, found some info: tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Adipose
They can turn human bodies into living blobs of fat... :-|

user139252
But... they're cute.

7:26 PM
Has anybody of you ever designed an own proper scripting language btw?

@Seth Amtrak might be more comfy though. Greyhound is cheaper, but the buses get full, and no sleeping on them.

user139252
Guys, I love having a job again. Guess what I just found in the kitchen here.

user139252
SEVEN POUND BAG OF JOLLY RANCHER CANDIES.

user139252
That's what.

Doesn't tell me anything...

user139252
7:33 PM
Jolly Rancher is a brand of sweet, somewhat tangy or sour/sweet hard candy, gummies, fruit chews, jelly beans, lollipops, gelatin desserts, gum and sodas. It is currently owned by The Hershey Company. The product was originally produced by the Jolly Rancher Company, founded in 1949 by Bill Harmsen of Golden, Colorado. The Jolly Rancher Company made ice cream, chocolate and candy sold at several "Ranch Maid Ice Cream" stores in the Denver area. The name was meant to suggest a hospitable, western company. == AcquisitionsEdit == Jolly Rancher was sold to Beatrice Foods in 1966 and to Leaf Brands in...

@Terrance well in this case I can get Amtrak tickets for ~$12 more than the bus.
greyhound has apparently gotten new buses recently though, whereas I'm sure the rail cars are still pretty old.

@jokerdino you can start with the new series that began in 2005.
The 1st season of the reboot is must-see. it has so much things in it that become relevant later ;-)

@Seth Might be better for the extra $12

@Rinzwind That's from when Matt Smith becomes the new Doctor and meets Amy Pond until when?
That's where I started as well.

@ByteCommander no from ehm.
christopher ecclestone
smith = 2010 through 2013

7:38 PM
Ugh, right. That's season 5 of the reboot?

user139252
Aye.

Sigh...
Can't they have one simple numbering scheme...

user139252
Don't you have Netflix? Hulu?

Me? Nope.

user139252
It is a simple numbering scheme...

user139252
7:39 PM
Doctor #9 is season 1 of reboot

user139252
Doctor #10 is seasons 2-4 of reboot

user139252
Doctor #11 is seasons 5-....9?

user139252
Doctor 12 is current.

they have :=D
it is messy enough with all the time warping not need for weird numbering schemes

7:40 PM
@TheBrownOne 5-7
8 & 9 are 12th doctor.

it is not The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya :+D

user139252
@Seth I forgot which season we were coming up on :P

user139252
I thought for some reason we were coming onto season 12

season 10 is next year With Bill the companion

user139252
I thought 4 seasons was too long for Smith...

7:41 PM
I will miss Clara :P

user139252
Me too. I always loved her style.

@TheBrownOne sorry but seasons here was SIX episodes a year. far too few.

This site seems to be helpful to learn about all seasons and episodes of the 2005 reboot: tv.com/shows/doctor-who-2005

user139252
@Rinzwind I wasn't the hugest fan of Smith as the Doctor. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Ponds, but 11 wasn't my favorite.

user139252
12 is so far my favorite, for some reason.

user139252
7:43 PM
Then 10, 11, 9. Mainly because we didn't get much time with 9, I couldn't grow attached.

user139252
(of the reboot series, anyway. Everybody's favorite is obviously Baker.)

I only got to see Smith yet...

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya was funny. doubt anyone here saw it. it too is about someone able to warp through time but the broadcasted in the normal time flow. so the series got really messy cuz you'd get something told that happend in the future :D

and they then later put in on TV in the order the series flowed (so not following the release) and it all made sense :D

from the little I've seen it's something like: 12, 11, 9, 10.
but I like them all.

user139252
What?! 10 is last?!

7:44 PM
yeah.

user139252
But 10 had Donna, and that dynamic was amazing!

maybe that would change if I watched more... possibly.

user139252
Plus, I mean, David Tennant...

like I said, I like them all though. It's hard to even make a list :p

I loved all the new doctor who's :) Tennant and Smith are both good.
Ecclestone had to play a dark doctor. did not care for it when it was broadcasted but it became crucial for the later doctors.
Capaldi did not do a lot yet. But he made a good impression the 1st episodes

user139252
7:46 PM
Yeah, I'm really liking Capaldi. I'm so glad he finally got his screw driver.

user139252
Those sonic specs were bugging me.

BUT I do rank DW above star trek and other series.
it was the 1st series I watched as kid. The showed DW here in the 70s

I absolutely love Capaldi's portrayal of the doctor.

user139252
@Rinzwind Lulz, yer old.

@TheBrownOne 47 :)

user139252
7:49 PM
I'll be 25 next week

n00b :+)

@Rinzwind oh finaly someone who is older than me :)

user139252
I'll be seeing X-Men: Apocalypse for my birthday
2

good movie

Cinema?

user139252
7:53 PM
You haven't even seen it yet!

user139252
It's not released until Friday

ehm
sorry but they started showing it last sunday?

(sorry for the probably dumb question, I'm normally not really interested in movies, if I watch anything, I just watch what TV presents me...)

https://foroxity.nl/Browsing/Movies/Details/h-HO00000680
it started today at 20:00 ;-)
wait that is for tomorrow :D

Not in the US. It opens this weekend here.

7:55 PM
our cinemaÅ› do pre-views. you pay 2 times the ticket price though

@ByteCommander There are no dumb questions. :)

Looks like In Germany, it's out since last Thursday! :D

user136984
@Nathan: Sorry, missed your message, which 'Bird' project?

I saw it last sunday :D (my modem died so no bigasss internetting for me the next few days)
bbl :-)

Premiere (London) on May 9, UK start on May 18, Germany start on May 19, Korea start May 25, US start May 27, China start on June 3 and Japan finally start on August 11. --> Wikipedia
AFK, going to have a huge piece of self-made rhubarb cake now.
:)

8:06 PM
hey guys!
Stuck on this one: askubuntu.com/questions/772182/… . Any ideas?

@ByteCommandersudo ufw deny from 192.168.0.1 to 224.0.0.1 just replace the src to match your src adress in your logs
see the comments on this answer

A: How can I disable UFW logging for a specific event?

John SiuBase on this answer from ServerFault, ufw supports per rule logging. By default, no logging is performed when a packet matches a rule. All you have to do is create a UFW deny rule to match those multicast packets.

I miss @Serg.

me too
but i hope he enjoys his time off
yay ... silence is golden golden sings
the UFW spam stopped

@Videonauth For whatever reason, I did not receive that as ping. Probably because you omitted the space before sudo.

aww :)
well i have log silence now

8:19 PM
But for what price?

just denying multicast pass throughs

I'm still not sure if I profit from this multicast or not.

dunno i have nothing multicast using
in worst case you can disable that rule
i simply set ufw to deny from 192.168.0.1 which is my router to 224.0.0.1

My /var/log is 13MB in total, I don't think I need to take any action.

well for me it was worse
i deleted at 18:00 arund 4 GB only from today and now i again deleted nearly 1,5 GB
because ufw was posting these in multiple logs at the same time

8:22 PM
@Videonauth WOW!

Don't you think that in this case something else might be really badly configured ?

oww i guess next days i will lose around 95 rep again
looks like someone this time serial opvoted me

Hmm...
Rumour has it that there could be some ways to trick the SU detection system. Not that I knew them though...

Serial upvoting is that bad?

yes.

well you dont keep the points
and it triggers som kinda alarm in SE HQ

@Videonauth system should take care of it in the next ~6-7 hours.
(script runs at 0300 UTC iirc)

Massages??? Facepalm...

I could really go for a massage right now! :P

Can I get block for serial voting?

Q: What is serial voting and how does it affect me?

Cody GrayI just noticed that I lost a bunch of points from my reputation score on Stack Overflow, and I used the "reputation" tab on my user profile page to try and track down the cause. During my investigation, I noticed there was an unusual event of type "reversal". In the normal place of a question ti...

@HenryWHHack yes you can. But usually only if you do it to someone else.
@ParanoidPanda you must be super stiff O_O
:P

user136984

and i thought pandas are fluffy and cuddly

Anyone got any ideas on this (or able to get hold of Fabby)?

Q: How to disable cache in Firefox?

Paranoid PandaFrom this answer I learned previously how to disable the Firefox cache completely, however I have found that in the latest version (don't know when this change was made, but I think rather recently) the network.http.use-cache section is not in about:config so how can I now properly disable the ca...

user136984
@Videonauth: And fat and stiff on the inside. :P

8:46 PM
just do a search for cache in about:config

user136984
I did...

I never asked a question in a long time. :(

user136984
Lots of things come up but as the options don't have descriptions I don't know which one it is.

if i had to guess its browser.cache.disk.enable
but im reading right now on bugzilla seems theres a bug that ff doesn't honor that setting

user139252
@Videonauth Fix your router/UFW issue?

8:52 PM
yep

user139252
Woot-woot.

sudo ufw deny from 198.162.0.1 to 224.0.0.1
and silence it is

user136984
@Videonauth: I guess it might be good to ask on the Mozilla Support site but I forgot my password and am too lazy to reset it... :P

user136984
But I will if I have to.

user139252
Did you figure out the root cause, though?

8:54 PM
the router works on partly ipv6 settings and multicast boradcast mode
and since i have no firmware access to the router myself i cant change it but i can at least silence up UFW

user139252
Ah, alrighty.

user139252
Glad you worked it out!

yeah i have on my OS hdd only 120 GB and alone today i deleted 5,5 gb of logfiles only from one day
and up to that it made it almos impossible to fix other issues that still are here on that system because the logs where clogged with those entrys
ah btw since youre here where did you get your x509 certificate and how much did it cost ?
or is it supplied by AWS ?

Anonymous
hi all

user139252
@Videonauth My SSL certificates?

user139252
8:59 PM
They're all from Let's Encrypt.

yep
cost factor ?

user139252
Only one of my sites is actually hosted on AWS, and it's because my ISP blocks port 25.

user139252
Free.

user139252
Free free free SSL certs.

user139252
I have to renew every 90 days, but I wrote a script to automate that.

9:00 PM
ah ^ i would love to see that :) free is always good
i had a major shock yesterday as i looked at normal x509 prices

user139252
You can look it up at letsencrypt.org

user139252
They have a "Cert Bot" now that automates for you.

user139252
My automation script is for those who are using the older Let's Encrypt GitHub repo without automation built in.

user136984
Have you all seen the great new design for the Worldbuilding site?

user136984
It looks amazing! :)

user136984
9:10 PM
I love seeing new sites really coming to life when they get a proper design custom to them! :)

@TheBrownOne actually reading into

user136984
I'm probably going to watch The Wicker Man some time soon, does anyone know if it's a good film? :)

user136984
And that reminds me, I must go to the Movie SE site and see if they can remember that real good horror film that I can't remember the name of but want to watch again... :D

Never heard of it.

user136984
@ByteCommander: It's a cult British classic horror film.

user136984
From my understanding it's really creepy and then they burn someone alive in a huge wicker man (a huge sort of statue made of sticks)...

user136984
9:29 PM
I've seen the trailer and it looks rather good in a creepy way. :P
