7:06 PM
yeah it sucks that we can't just settle our differences non-violently.

user116848
exactly. Us and them psychology is very devastating.

user116848
That's one of the reasons I avoid all the international and local news.

user116848
I mean it kinda triggers my anxiety.

user116848
But I keep myself up with the news in other ways, like hearing from friends, family etc.

user116848
And occasionally checking Google :-)

user116848
7:12 PM
Game of Thrones everywhere it seems.

user116848
It has always been.

user116848
I don't know what should be the iron throne in real life though.

Any position of power could serve as a stand-in for that throne.
So, good news! Rick Santorum is running for President.

@Arrowfar And radical terrorism is what touched off the US and Britain. So what are we left with?
If you punch someone in the face, don't cry "He hit me!" when you get one in return.

user116848
7:27 PM
@Robusto oh, I know that. I hate fanatics, terrorists etc. too. I meant when innocent women and children die with them sometimes.

You have to examine the country you live in. Was it the US who assassinated Benazir Bhutto? Who harbored bin Laden?

user116848
I mean collateral damage.

user116848
@Robusto I know. We are on the same page on all that. All dirty politics.

7:41 PM
@Robusto What does Bhutto's assassination have to do with drone strikes?

8:09 PM
@MattE.Эллен No not that many, just one.
@Robusto There's just this one guy with a shitload of guns.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 That's be really expensive. People are very heavy. How about just Antarctica?

[ SmokeDetector ] Bad keyword in body: Energy vs. Power by Steven on english.stackexchange.com

@Mitch Not as satisfying.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 ... and then feed them to a big rock crusher.

I bet we could build a really good sun-fling-into-er if we put our minds to it.

some kind of huge foot that slams down on them.
and the ones just about to go in to it have to clean it out first.
How about now?

Jez
8:15 PM
i just tried a minestrone cup-o-soup. it was OK.
but now i feel hungry for a real dinner

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Or a trebuchet? We'd say it would fling them into the sun, but then say 'oops' when it doesn't get that far.

user116848
:)

@Mitch heh I was having the same thought. It could just fling them into the ocean.

@Jez Argh! You feel like you fooled the dinner making gods by getting something cheap and easy to make, but then you have to do it again.

@Jez too bad you've had your salt quota for the day.

Jez
8:16 PM
nah, i didnt think it would really fill me up. it's like Pot Noodle. you have to have something actually filling with it.

and your petrochemicals quota

@Jez I find ramen noodles pretty satisfying, but yeah, double the salt quota

Jez
ramen noodles are probably like pot noodle
and they're not satisfying. i'm starving within half an hour
if anything it makes me hungrier because my stomach starts processing

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 what? in the noodles?

Jez
if they did a gestapo cup-o-soup they could just tell you to fill it up from the tap :-)

8:18 PM
@Jez yeah that's like raw vegetables. all they do is make me ravenous. Mom: Dinner is almost ready, don't spoil it with that, have some celery! Me: groan

Jez
what my mum usually does is have slices of cucumber, carrot, and peppers with some dips
combined with crisps
that's too filling before a sunday lunch...

Gestapo cup-o-soup: it'll wake you up at 4 in the morning and stuff you into the trunk of a car. It's that good!

Jez
look at that, tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich
i wish i could have that

user116848
Btw here we eat chicken makhni (butter chicken). It is very tasty.

user116848

user116848
8:31 PM
I ate it the other day. It was awesome.

Jez
where is "here"?

user116848
Pakistan

Jez
that looks like a nice curry

user116848
Yes, very tasty too.

Jez
can't say i'd like to eat one in pakistan, but still.

user116848
8:32 PM
They make it in cream and butter.

user116848
@Jez ha ha

user116848
yeah this place is kinda awkward and upside down :)

@Arrowfar I made that on the weekend. it was yummy.

user116848
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 You did? Nice!

Jez
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 bit of a coincidence.
i need to find a new curry house. my existing takeaway got bought out and rebranded and now it's terrible
@Arrowfar that actually looks just like my madras curries. i suspect it's about 1% as hot though

user116848
8:36 PM
@Jez Yes it is hot (very spicy).

Jez
oh. "butter" doesnt sound spicy

[ SmokeDetector ] Offensive answer detected: Origin of "the wrong end of the stick" by Sezme on english.stackexchange.com

user116848
They mix is all together. Spices, butter, chicken, cream etc.

@Jez You can make it less spicy if you cook it yourself, it's basically the same.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Down, boy. I'm talking about Pakistan in a large context.

Jez
8:45 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 oh no i like spicy. what i don't like is fishy.

user116848
@Jez Fishy?

user116848
"suspicion"?

@Arrowfar stop it! it's making me hungry

user116848
@Mitch okay, sorry :p

user116848
Well, it is not like I eat that all the time. Only once in a blue moon.

8:58 PM
@Robusto Well, it just doesn't seem to follow. Arrowfar complains that innocent people are killed in American drone strikes and you bring up Pakistan's domestic problems...
of which there are many
but they don't seem relevant

user116848
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yay Mr Shiny!

anyway, i'm outta here. have fun y'all

user116848
See ya!

user116848
Well, I kinda suck at debating a topic especially "politics".

user116848
So I brought up food, curries and chicken butter curry :-)

9:03 PM
@Arrowfar Food arguments are good arguments. Everyone is right!
And if you agree even better!

user116848
@Mitch Yeah, that's what I thought. Everyone wins!

Like, for example, whatever you may have against McDonald's, you can't deny that they have the absolute best french fries.

user116848
exactly

well, shoestring style. for curly fries or spicy fries...
@Arrowfar Yeah, I have my opinions but they're not really based on hard facts, just vague notions of that guy is a jerk, and these people are not total jerks, and this other guy seems to mean well, but what about saving the poor polar bears?

user116848
Hmm interesting.

user116848
9:10 PM
Like what WWF and other organisations are doing.

user116848
yeah that is a good topic as well.

user116848
Well, I don't have anything against any particular country. It is all hearsay I'd say. I mean we can't even trust the media these days.

user116848
But it was nice talking to you guys here.

user116848
First time I discussed some politics here.

user116848
Yeah honestly it doesn't make much sense. I mean people here in general are crazy about going to Western countries and still they sometimes say it is all West's fault. It is crazy.

user116848
9:19 PM
I got only shallow arguments.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I'm just circling around the observation that Pakistan is an unstable country, with nukes, one that sponsors terrorism, and so they make some countries nervous, and that leads to all kinds of shit. Crazy shit. And I don't mean by this to absolve anybody, only to set the stage for what is really going down.

Jez
@Arrowfar no, as in tasting like fish

user116848
@Jez Ah, I see.

user116848
@Robusto Yeah we have nukes, that is for sure. But it is not like we sponsor terrorism Rob. I don't even know who sponsors terrorism here.

user116848
But yeah, Pakistan is very unstable.

user116848
9:26 PM
Well, I blame IS too among other bad people.

@Arrowfar Not the official government, but there are those in the military with close ties to terrorists. And the big screaming fear among Western nations is that some jihadist is going to get the capability to nuke New York. Because we know if the terrorists ever did get hold of a nuke they would not hesitate, not for one second, to use it.

user116848
And Talibans and God knows who else is out there.

The government doesn't even control all the territory, as you yourself attest.
And let me say this, if ever a Pakistani nuke should blow up New York, what do you suppose will happen next?
The least — the very least — that will happen will be that Pakistan is ostracized from the world, starved and sanctioned into oblivion while the rest of the world goes into a recession the likes of which would make what happened in 2008 look like child's play. And there are worse things that could happen.
I'm not speaking out of bragadocio, or to threaten—I have nothing to threaten with. All I'm saying is what I suspect will happen. I've been alive several decades longer than the rest of this chatroom, and I kind of know how things tend to come down.

Jez
@Arrowfar you've got to admit, it wouldn't really be possible without Islam

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 You're linking two things that I myself did not link. I'm trying to explain the larger context of the world's, or the West's, nervousness about Pakistan. And I was trying to do it, earlier, on a tablet. So I didn't elaborate a great deal.

user116848
9:35 PM
@Jez Well, that is not true. I am a muslim myself but I never, ever think about taking another person's life. Why would I? I mean these are (IS etc.) terrorist organisations. So blaming Islam (religion) is not a good thing I'd say. Islam basically teaches us to live peacefully, I can tell you that much.

Jez
@Arrowfar not really. there are plenty of parts of the Quran that could be interpreted to be unpeaceful, and there's the whole dhimmi tradition toward non-Muslims

user116848
So, to West (you guys) we might all look like one (bad). But here we have many sects etc. guys.

user116848
It has gotten complicated over the years with all the terrorist activities on the international level.

Jez
yeah but all they're really doing is going back to the old days
how did Islam spread through Mesopotamia, north Africa, and Iberia?

user116848
okay, I'll try to give you good arguments. But I am thinking what to write.

Jez
9:50 PM
@Arrowfar it would be good if you could come on the youtube Jiinn & Tonic show
we talk about Islam in the 21st century and we've been wanting to actually have someone Islamic on for ages :-)

user116848
@Jez Oh, no. Never heard of that show and I am not into politics :)

user116848
It is just that I know you guys here and I thought I'd talk. Well, it just came up today.

user116848
I mean in a friendly manner.

user116848
@Robusto okay, one thing I don't get is why West is so afraid of muslim countries' arsenal.

user116848
I mean what's up with that? :)

user116848
9:53 PM
Nothing of the sort has ever happened and will probably never. God forbid.

user116848
shakes head

Jez
it might fall into the hands of people who take the "final battle" rhetoric a bit too seriously

user116848
hmm

user116848
10:04 PM
Btw I'd agree with you guys because where I live we have bigger problems. For example, the city where I am from sees bomb blasts and killings every so often.

user116848
I am from Karachi btw.

user116848
It is a war zone out here.

Jez
the west has fucked up the islamic world a bit
but at the end of the day if you were Jainists it would be peaceful there

user116848
10:17 PM
I am missing Cerbs in this talk btw.

user116848
And Mr Shiny.

user116848
Anyhoo I am a bit tired, I'll talk to you guys tomorrow. Take care, bye!

user116848
Feel free to ping me though.

@Arrowfar mostly one local state is doing the sponsoring (your neighbor on the other side of Afghanistan)

user116848
@Mitch yeah

10:27 PM
@Arrowfar I thought I explained that.
Terrorists + nukes = Armageddon.

user116848
@Robusto Yeah and we have many TV movies and series like 24 etc. on the topic. I think the government tries its best to protect it. What can I say? I am just a common civilian.

user116848
10:49 PM
Btw Braggadocio is a nice word. I had heard the word somewhere but never really noticed its meaning.

user116848
I am checking out its pronunciation.

user116848
yeah very close to brag in meaning.

11:46 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I think I learned a whole nother as a unit when I was little

Anonymous
I don't think I reanalyzed it that way myself

Anonymous
A whole nother has been around significantly longer than I've been alive, and it's been on the increase pretty much the entire time, so it makes sense that it's transmitted socially

Anonymous
Even today, I still like the sound of it :-)
