10:00 PM
Nice

But for a tetraphthong, you’ll have to ask @Cerb to model it for you.

I don't go beyond three.

One for each head?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 From the changelog for Android 5.1 that was recently discovered: "Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0" — androidpit.com/android-5-1-lollipop-update
Presumably, they will bring back long-pressing the volume button to mute the phone.
@skullpatrol Yes.

:-)

10:02 PM
Three-legged dog, eh?
The Riddle of the Sphinx.

@Cerberus Presumably. Meanwhile, I love the new silent and priority modes that auto-shut-off (and auto-enable). They do what I've always wanted.

This is just an observation — no hats to be had:
2
A: Can we have much more complex 2015 Winterbash hats

tchristOne of the reasons that the hats are simpler is that there is no longer a three-tiered theme the way there was last year. For example, there were hats for asking 5 questions, 10 questions, and 15 questions, and the same for answering them. Moreover, you needed upvotes. There were also hat for ...

Just today, I was feeling sick, I pressed vol-down, then "priority", then "1 hour", then said "ok google, wake me up in an hour"
and for 1 hour, my phone didn't make any noises until it woke me.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I have nothing against those new features, on the contrary: I congratulate you.
Not that those features are new in general, there have always been many applications that do this.
But it is good that Google finally did something with this.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Does it also have a way to mute your phone during appointments?

@Cerberus It usually works better if the feature is integrated into the OS.

10:09 PM
I wouldn't say that...

@Cerberus Not that I know of.

It depends.
My phone on Windows Mobile from 2008 had that.
It can be done with Tasker.
I am already looking forward to reinstalling Tasker on my future LG G2!
And to the excellent battery life!

@Cerberus Tasker is great, but it's so hard to use

There.
Now
that
should
look
more
stylish
and
less
menacing.
Or maybe not.
Maybe it takes time.

For what it's worth, the image in this answer directly inspired the hat idea and design. The trigger was indeed a reference to the seemingly arbitrary score that results from a successful touchdown + extra point kick. (Note, it's also possible to get 8 points with a two-point conversion, but there's no hat for that.) — Jon Ericson ♦ 5 mins ago

10:11 PM
You can simply install someone else's Tasker profile if you don't want to bother with making one yourself.

I keep trying to be the Baron.

@Cerberus Assuming it is general enough, and that you can find it, and figure out how to do that.

But it is not working.
Oh, there it is.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 It's not super hard, and you can adjust it to your liking.

@Cerberus Look, I'm a programmer, and I find Tasker hard to use. There's no way regular people will ever figure it out.

10:13 PM
I'm sure they won't.
But so what?
There are so many good things the common people are missing out on.

@Cerberus So there is value in the OS providing easy-to-use features built-in instead of requiring an arcane third-party app that doesn't always work.

I got a small cut on my finger The pain that it gave was a zinger My finger is sore The cut is still raw I really hope it doesn’t linger

10:29 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Oh, certainly, value to the maker of the OS. And to users.
But smart users can often get results that are just as good by using other applications.
I have to say Xposed applications feel as tight and smooth as features of the actual OS, usually.

@Cerberus well, they typically modify or replace part of the OS. If made properly they should be "smooth". But as you've seen, Xposed has issues with compatibility, because of how they do what they do

Yes, sadly.
If only Google themselves used Xposed.
It is in my opinion much better and more transparent than the dreaded Play Services.
They aren't part of the OS, and they sometimes give problems.
And you aren't even allowed to control when and what they update.
And you can't pick what they update.

@Cerberus Xposed is nothing like and not at all in any way similar to Play Services
Play Services is just a set of libraries and apps that Google considers part of the OS, yet updates on a different schedule.

@skullpatrol I see I missed a fight between you and him, lol.

"Him" is on ignore.
The End

10:41 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 The two perform a similar function.
It's just that one is controlled by Google, the other by noöne.
@skullpatrol Wise.

@Cerberus In what way are they similar?

They both serve to change and update what could be or should be "core" features of the OS. In an intrusive way, unhampered by any security.

@skullpatrol One reason I never put people on ignore is that the conversation may mislead. So I only ignore him mentally but not using the button. Can you imagine if I tell him to shut up and you think I am telling you to shut up instead? That would not be good.

Thank you @Cerberus that means a lot to me coming from you :-)

@Cerberus I think it may not be wise. See above remark.

10:43 PM
@skullpatrol I saw what he was doing, the last couple of days.
@JasperLoy I do the same thing. But, if you accidentally tell someone to shut up you can't see, what's the harm?

@Cerberus I do not get your point. I am not sure if you got mine.

Cutting-off the source of information is more important to me.

@JasperLoy Upon rereading, I agree that I do not understand your point.

@Cerberus Example. A: Hello. B: Stop talking about yourself, C. C: Shut up. (A has B on ignore.)

@Cerberus That's not what Play services does at all. Play services doesn't serve to update stuff. It just happens to get updated independently of the normal process. Play services is a set of libraries that apps can use.

10:47 PM
@JasperLoy Who is C talking to?

Shut up!

@Mitch Okay.

@Cerberus to B

@Cerberus C is talking to B, but because A has B on ignore, A may think that C is talking to A.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 One function of Play Services is that Google can update them independent of the OS.

10:49 PM
@Cerberus That's completely irrelevant to what Play Services IS.

Ha ha. I ... What's a good word for responding to someone who came before the person they ignored?

Wow, for once, I actually said something that makes sense, phew!

Somebody tells the troll to shut up and you think they are talking to you.

Snarfed?

Google can update the Android Keyboard because it's delivered as an apk in the play store.

10:49 PM
It is indeed true that more other applications use the Play Services than they do Xposed stuff.

Google can update Play Services using some other method because that's how they decided to do it.

@Mitch That should be a SWR, lol.

@Cerberus Xposed modifies the OS. Play Services is a library that sometimes gets updated.

:D

The only similarity is that you can add new features to the system using both methods, but really, you can add new features to the system using any app.

10:50 PM
@JasperLoy Ah okay, yes, in general it may sometimes be confusing to you, if you have someone on ignore and you can't see that people are talking to him.

Yeah I think ignoring makes things confusing. They're already confusing enough.

Perhaps a CSS script to replace all the user's lines with "censored" would be more effective?

@Cerberus It's very confusing. It makes the chat useless unless everyone else ignores the same person.

Now I have an idea. Perhaps this ignore button is so silly that it should be ABOLISHED. Maybe I should make that a request on MSE.

@Cerberus Yeah the ignore button should just set the line-height to zero for their messages.
Anyway I have to run. cya

10:51 PM
Not responding is hard, but trying to not respond at least teaches patience.

But I remember the last time someone requested for comments to be displayed chronologically, the idea was REJECTED. It's the same problem actually.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Play Services also modify the OS. The similarity I was talking about is that both intervene deep into the OS, bypassing ordinary security protections and thereby gaining more advanced functionality.
Bye!

@Cerberus Good idea for meta.

What happened that had the 'person in question' chat-banned before?

@JasperLoy You can do it yourself.

10:53 PM
@Cerberus I am more concerned about my future, lol.

@Mitch Mmm I think something similar to what we have seen recently. But somehow it seemed less actionable then to me.

@Mitch No idea. Probably similar things.

@JasperLoy Unrelated.

I'm surprised his behavior didn't almost immediately result in banning because it is so obviously atrocious

At first, I thought he was just having some fun in this chat. But when I reread what he said, it seems really evil.

10:55 PM
He does try to dominate the room.

I wonder what people he annoys in the interim?

@Mitch Yeah, this time it was pretty bad.
So was he banned again?

Racism is one thing but the word "retard" pushed me over the edge :(

@JasperLoy he's not even trying to be subtle, he immediately says mean things. Not just to get a rise but to outright be mean. On purpose. Like he has no inner monitor that tells him ' I think maybe this thing I'll say won't be taken well'

Well, there is no strong reason to ban him. He did not go around calling people !@#$%. So what he did is not good but ultimately unactionable, QED.

10:57 PM
No @Cerberus

@Mitch Sometimes, I think he might be a psychopath.

He is going to read all of this.

OK.

No problem, I can handle him easily.

It is too bad, because he can be funny and intelligent when he puts his mind to it.

11:00 PM
Agreed.

I think there are only two things I fear in life now. (1) My own mental problems. (2) Prosecution by the authorities. I don't really fear dealing with people at all.

Did you watch it? @JasperLoy yet

mmm. I'm such a sweetheart.

@skullpatrol Nope. I watched the first few seconds.

cuts a fun elephant-themed christmas card out of colored paper for girlfriend
is a sweetie
draws a hippo on it saying merry christmas

11:02 PM
@skullpatrol It is your choice, but I advise you never to use the ignore button.

^.^
hey hey, guys, why are you still talking about me
jesus christ, come on. I've told Matt and I'm telling you now, I'll make an effort to stop being a dick.
what more do you want? I promise, I'll be nice.

@JasperLoy the part at the beginning about the grade "not yet" given instead of "Fail"?

it actually really got to me when Cerberus ignored me because I think he's cool and that made me feel bad.

@skullpatrol Yes.

so I have emerged from the dark side.
I'm a changed man. I've accepted the baby Jesus

11:04 PM
@GeorgePompidou Yay! That warms my old heart.

:O you don't have me on ignore?!

Especially the baby Jesus.

I do not.

smiles

11:05 PM
There should be enough fresh blood in that thing to warm me.
You may present its neck to me.

we have to follow the star of Bethlehem.
to find him.
darn, I'm colorblind and can't tell which of these boards are orange.

All that trouble for a single baby?

he's to be the king of the Jews!

This SE site is beige.

plus they say his mom was a virgin, but I think she had sex with Joseph.
that's just my opinion though. (ssshhh)

11:06 PM
Well, let them pick a queen this time.
Ick.

Let's not make fun of Jesus and Mary.

Why not?

I'm not, I'm appreciating Christmas and his birth.

It is alright to discuss religion in an academic manner, but not alright to make fun in this way.

is there no limit to what you are offended by?
I'm afraid I cannot be nicer than this.

11:08 PM
As long as you aren't negative towards other people in this room, you have my blessing.

@GeorgePompidou I am not offended by what you said. And I am also not a Christian.
However, my point stands as it is, no more, no less.

1 min ago, by George Pompidou
is there no limit to what you are offended by?

anyway, yes, going on from where I left off, we must gather some frankincense (I never know how to spell that on my first try) and mhyrrhhr (I just never know how to spell that in general) and then gift them to him!

This line I would have phrased as, "people shouldn't be offended too easily", instead of the personal touch.
Myrrh?

mhrryrrrh

11:10 PM
Too personal is not good.

I think it has more h in it.

Double r, and a Greek r is always followed by h if no consonant comes after it.

clip clip

I don't think r-VOWEL exists in Greek transcription.

in Romanian it's smirnă. no idea where that comes from.

11:11 PM
Ah.

probably the east, actually.

Perhaps from Smirna?

@MattЭллен Are you still awake?

Smyrna (Ancient Greek: Σμύρνη or Σμύρνα) was an ancient city located at a central and strategic point on the Aegean coast of Anatolia. Due to its advantageous port conditions, its ease of defence and its good inland connections, Smyrna rose to prominence. The ancient city is located at two sites within modern İzmir, Turkey, as well as being its namesake. The first site, probably founded indigenously, rose to prominence during the Archaic Period as one of the principal ancient Greek settlements in western Anatolia. The second, whose foundation is associated with Alexander the Great, reached ...

11:14 PM
I think I will stick to Ubuntu Mate LTS from now, until I am rich enough to buy a copy of Windows.

So you're not going to finish watching it @JasperLoy?
It's ok if you don't.

@skullpatrol Maybe later on. There are some reasons I don't want to watch some things sometimes.

Fair enough.

Aren't you going to ask me what those reasons are?

@Mitch lol, actually it's quite the opposite.

11:17 PM
Only if you want me to @JasperLoy

so I'm supposed to make an orange elephant and a purple hippo. there's about a 1 in 3 chance that I'll get orange right and a 1 in 2 chance that I'll get purple right. there are a total of 5 colors. what are the chances that I will get them both right together?

@skullpatrol Sometimes, there is a resistance to watching good stuff, because it makes me feel even more sick of the bad stuff around me. It sounds weird, but it is one of the reasons.

anyone wanna take a crack at that probability thing?

@GeorgePompidou You can ask on Math SE.

11:19 PM
nah, just wanted to see if anyone appreciates the problem.
I can do it myself.
cuts out colored paper in animal shapes

This video gives hope to the most under privileged people in society @JasperLoy
The children of the poor.

@skullpatrol I think the people who don't do so well in school are not really much less smarter than the people who do, considering some extremely stupid things some highly educated people say.

Everybody believes that it is inevitable that they will grow up to be just like their parents.

"much less smarter"

@GeorgePompidou Oh yeah, seems to be a mistake, lol.

11:26 PM
^.^

That is completely legal.
Windows is not expensive.

mhhhhh I'm not good at drawing
or colors
wait…

@skullpatrol I am very different from my parents. Sometimes, I think they are not my parents, that a mistake was made in the hospital.

does that look like an orange elephant to anyone?

It is a yellow elephant.

11:28 PM
Yellow, but nice.

motherfuck
damn
hold on

@GeorgePompidou It's best not to use such words, in case someone flags you.

Meh, or you can just ignore censorious people.

I am just teaching him how not to be banned from this chat.

11:29 PM
any of those?

Green and green.

why would there be two greens? it says there's a yellow, green, and orange

Lighter green and darker green.

maybe the lighting is affecting it?

I see 2 different greens.

11:30 PM
And a yellow elephant.

how on earth
then the packaging is lying to me
why am I not just asking my roommate

Nah, lighting cannot do that.

grrrrr

Are you colour blind?

11:31 PM
The light is bluish, but not that much.

goes to knock on roommate's door

Ok @JasperLoy I can only show you the path I can't walk it for you. See you later pal :-)

@skullpatrol Good night.

roommate says my elephant is orange and the others are yellow and green
I think colors may not be so trivial

@GeorgePompidou Yellow, green, orange, all these words are not well defined anyway.

11:33 PM
or you are all messing with me. wouldn't be the first time ^.^
(that I'm messed with regarding colors, my friends do it all the time)

But I think the lighting in that pic might be responsible.

I glued my fingers together trying to stick the elephant on to the background

I hate handicraft.

me too.
gotta do it this one season though. to show that I am a caring hippo!

You can show it in other ways.
I don't keep cards. I throw them all away after a few days.

11:36 PM
yeah but this is the way of which I thought.
plus, this card is going to be so adorable, it'll be impossible to throw out.
spreads christmas joy
now I have to draw and cut out a hippo standing on top of the tree

@GeorgePompidou Who are you making it for?

Margaret ^.^

@skullpatrol Yeah you could. You could walk beside him or carry him while you walk it, or have a line tied to you while he follows you or you could leave a popcorn trail or..wait..that was a metaphor, right?

Your girlfriend?

If so, then yeah, you can't walk that path for him.

11:51 PM
mhmm.

@GeorgePompidou I am 33 and I never had a girlfriend. Can you believe it? LOL.

you're 33?
wow!
I can believe it. girlfriends aren't for everyone.

Maybe when I finally get one, I won't like it. It's possible.

@skullpatrol I think that's true. But is almost impossible to happen nowadays

yeah. I'm 22 and this is just my first girlfriend. I've never really considered whether or not I like the overall concept of girlfriend. I just have not had a problem with it yet.
I think maybe I am too apathetic.

11:55 PM
I have a friend who has slept with about 100 girls. He is married now.

she's also a massive enabler of my spoiled insensitivity, arrogance, and rudeness.
haha, we all have one of those. my friend Olek has been with over 70. and he's two years younger than me I think.

I am still a virgin.

now that's strange. why haven't you done sex with anyone?
usually people like that kinda stuff.

Well, I have been too busy dealing with other stuff.

do you have some sort of moral/religious opposition to it?

11:59 PM
Nope. I am very liberal minded.
