@Mitch Beautiful? Are you kidding? I don't find anything here beautiful. Sorry, just venting again...

@Mitch The what of Singapore?

@WillHunting sometimes it is just irresistible when you see someone else's answer that is just plain not exactly on the mark.

@tchrist A Dutch photographer?

user19161
@Mitch But I had to counter-comment to Kris's comment earlier on. And I also love doing edits and giving out presents.

11:00 PM
@Cerberus hm...ok then maybe it was a movie that I mistook singapore with kuala lumpur.

Hello Singapore.

What is in a name?

@Mitch Then show me a Google Street View of these canals.
@Tchrist And can you tell me where the nice parts of San Diego are? Because all I get are random large buildings in Street View.
Too bad Ljubliana is not on SV.

Balboa Park.
You also have pictures up there of Provincetown, and one of San Antonio.

@Cerberus did I say canal, I mean this:

user19161
@Mitch I spend most time on Math SE now. I intend to reach 25k there as well to match up with Eng.

@tchrist Ah okay, it is a park.
The park looks nice.

@WillHunting math can go on and on. I was able to pick off very low hanging fruit there, but then I found ELU ...and it was even lower!

But outside the park...

So Cerb you're looking for a mostly beautiful city all over in the US or at least more than just one building at a time?

user19161
11:07 PM
@Mitch Haha, my sentiments exactly!

@Mitch Is that supposed to be a SV link? Then it isn't working, I just see KL on the map, no specific location...

@Cerberus I didn't know they'd had the google truck waterproofed.

Laminated.
Sure.

I found this particular comment funny:

@Mitch One that I would sooner want to walk around in than Ljubliana?

11:09 PM
How did you get 84? — Ranga Jan 4 '11 at 3:32
because that's what you just answered!

user19161
@Mitch HAHAHAHA!

@Cerberus that's up to you to make the criteria for this game.

user19161
Wait, why did I laugh?

user19161
That's not funny at all!

@Mitch Is it a game?
Nobody told me.

user19161
11:10 PM
@Mitch I edited the answer to include more details later on.

well, I thought his comment was stupid because he should have read your answer already to see that you already gave him the answer. already.
Oh.
@Cerberus hell yeah it's a game: The "Come up with a city in the US that would be beautiful to Cerb".

user19161
Now math has the same problems as eng of course. Sometimes wrong answers get upvoted, and there are also people who don't know too much but like to post authoritative comments.

how do you give a street view here? just the link or an actual image?
@WillHunting math is all language, but worse because it is made up.

user19161
Speaking of which, where did Xavier disappear too?

but you still have to follow the 'obvious' rules.

user19161
11:12 PM
Has he deleted his account?

I thought it was established that Xavier was a sock for Carlo.

@Mitch There is a chainlink button, I believe.

user19161
@Mitch Serious?

user19161
I think they write quite differently.

like what I gave above (but not for a streetview)?
@WillHunting me too. but thats what I heard.
also that Carlo is not really 89 or 79 or whatever.

user19161
11:13 PM
@Mitch Oh OK. There are many rumours and gossips in SE rooms. Some are true, some are false. =)

user19161
@Mitch I think he really is. I believe that.

gossip is great. because sometimes it is true.
ometimes not.

user19161
But who I don't believe is Nortonn S.

I don't get the whole Nortonn S thing.

user19161
I think he is just a psychopath.

11:14 PM
Way too much work to do. what do all those questions do for him?
and he doesnt seem sociopathic...just

@Mitch I think Carlo's age is consistent. He made enough remarks that would suggest he's quite old. Whether he's exactly 79 doesn't matter; I have found no reason not to believe that number.

hm...I wonder if he is on the autistic spectrum in a weird way.

@Mitch Aren't all of us?

user19161
@Mitch That would be very weird indeed.

@DavidWallace His manner of speaking, even through the terribly distorted lens of a fractured other language, doesnt seem that mature.
@DavidWallace !! of course, thats why I followed up with 'weird way'.

11:17 PM

user19161
Anyway you guys won't see much of me here anymore but I will hang out in the math room.

He doesn't seem to get that he's not following the social rules of the site.

Like this, copy the chain icon.

he's not learning from comments.

@Mitch I have observed an odd phenomenon, where old people actually become less mature.

11:18 PM
There is a name for that.

user19161
@DavidWallace Now I can write a book on that.

@WillHunting How so?

user19161
But the margin in this chat is not enough for me to share my views on the matter. QED.

@Cerberus oh wow, I can see my house from here.

@Cerberus I had never noticed that button before. Let me try!

11:19 PM
@DavidWallace hm... maybe needy yes, but less -mature-? like reactive like a little kid who doesn't get what they want orlike a teenager that sees an insult where none is remotely extractable?
@WillHunting I bet you do that one all the time over at math.

@Mitch Oh, I didn't know you lived that close by. Are those bags yours?
Please remove them.
@DavidWallace Sorry, you're not allowed to.
Can't have everyone using it.

@Mitch Yes. Sad, but true.

I see a mountain!
It's over 1m high!
And wooden hice.

@Cerberus so do you live near there? isn't it expensive there in the main tourist area (whether you live there or not)?

Yes, and yes.
But I'm rent controlled.

11:23 PM
@Cerberus Oh, yes they're mine but the garbage is on strike.

Again?
Sheesh.
So is sheesh short for shit or Jesus?

@DavidWallace not to cast illness labels, but is that a sign of Alzheimer's or some neurological deficit, or does it just seem to be "retired people act like children sometimes because they don't have any responsibilities"?

It is a very gradual process.
I can already see it in my parents.

@Mitch I don't have a large enough sample space to answer that question definitively.

@Cerberus ask on ELU.
I don't know.

11:25 PM
OK.

I remember going through all the short interruption words and they all seemed to be religion derived.

@Mitch Yeah, almost all of them.

@Cerberus I see other people complaining about it about their parents, but then they say that's what their parents were always like.

I don't think so.

'Gee', 'Gosh', um... not 'um' but um... um... what others are there?

11:27 PM
Look, he's a charming, sweet old man with a few eccentricities. We really don't have to backstab him.

Hey.
@DavidWallace I mostly agree, but then I probably missed the worst stuff he did on the main site.

If we're alking about Carlo, he was very inflammatory at first, well beyond what was acceptable considering he's a language learner.
and that has colored a few people's perception since.
and it is the height of arrogance for him to answer on ELU.

I was gobsmacked one time when I commented on an answer of his that it really ought to be deleted - then he promptly deleted it.

yeah, he was not a good player in the sandbox.

I think he is only trying to be helpful. If his grammar were better, there would be a danger that people would read his answers and take them as gospel. But I think he's pretty harmless, given that nobody seriously thinks he is a native speaker.
I didn't see that - I was off in another window.
I am playing with Google Street View

11:37 PM
here we go again

XXXXXXXX - now there's a good word. I might steal it some time.

ooh I got lots.
'tendentious' is another
'calumny' ... no I don't care for that one. might as well say slander.

More wooden hice, and the tree in which my new kite got entangled when I was (I think) 8.

nice hill in the background

Of course, if you pronounce 'sauna' as /sɔnə/ instead of /sauna/, then the plural should be 'saunas' (pronounced /sɔnəz/), since /sɔnə/ is no longer a Finnish word and you couldn't count on the ordinary morphology to work any more. If you're gonna rescue the Classical form, you gotta rescue all if it, not just the parts you happen to remember. — John Lawler 52 mins ago
Lawler again...
sigh

11:44 PM
@Cerberus I'm afraid to ask how I'm supposed to pronounce it.
@Mitch Where I come from, everything is a hill.

I wouldn't know.
> If you're gonna rescue the Classical form, you gotta rescue all if it, not just the parts you happen to remember.
This is just insane.

Oh, /sauna/ ! Really?
Most New Zealanders would think I was saying SONAR.

@DavidWallace Aww.
Nice exotic trees.

One man's exotic is another man's commonplace. I think those are actually pohutukawa, so I shall forgive you for not having ever seen them in the flesh.

Perhaps in the hortus.
We don't just plant our exotic trees at a random street!
They are kept and nurtured in or near greenhice.

11:49 PM
Christchurch has the loveliest trees. Hang on, I'll GSV Hagley Park.
No, I can't find the right view to do the place justice.

Hmm less exotic.

I could do this all day.
For some reason, the North Island has mostly evergreen trees, including lots of native ones. The South Island has more introduced species of tree, and more deciduous ones. So I find the South Island flora more exotic than the North Island; but maybe most Europeans would find it the other way around.

@DavidWallace wow those hills to the south of christchurch are cool.
so tropical up north, temperate down south?
