The current review queues are severely broken. People can snatch reviews out from under you simply by upvoting anything and everything rather than fixing it.

Hello.

Eh?

@tchrist happens to me on SO all the time, but now it's starting to happen on ELU, too.

(I love how consistent our conversation is.)

I am sorry, but I do not follow. Just what is it that is happening? You are in like the First Answer review queue, and someone up- or downvotes while you are looking at the posting, and what happens? Or is there another scenario?

11:39 PM
I clicked on the Late Answers review queue, there were two items. I started editing the first one. By the time I was finished, someone else had "reviewed" it already, simply by upvoting it. His single click counted as a review. My elaborate edit didn't.

How could your edit not count? You mean your number didn't go up?
I see what you mean now.

My edit counted as an edit. It didn't count as a review, though. Because the item was already considered reviewed by that time.

Do you think this a code bug or a design bug?

Status by design, very clearly.

If you edit it from the review queue, why is that not always a review?

11:42 PM
You ask me? That's my complaint.)))

Have you scoured MSO?

That user just "reviewed" four posts in three minutes. By fixing exactly nothing. And all four posts needed fixed. I had to go and fix all four of them.

And by the way, good morning.

@tchrist nope.
As I said, so far this only happened to me on SO.

That means they just pitched in a quick upvote.
That’s because of how low-traffic we are.

11:43 PM
But now that it starts happening here on ELU, I am not amused.
Because it's objectively detrimental to the quality.

How is that?

Poor formatting not getting fixed and getting upvoted instead?
And it only just so happens that the four posts in question only had formatting issues.
Who knows what else disappears from the review queue like that.

I think you should take this to MSO, not waste time on our meta.

I know.

I was working on the SO queues just recently, but slowly.

11:46 PM
I'm just wondering if I have to do that to myself today.

Ah.
It can be an abusive place, MSO.

I don't mean that.

I guess you can’t save it till Sunday. :)
Then what did you mean?

I just mean I would have to think up a wording, format and post, blah blah.

Yes, it requires coherency.

11:47 PM
If I could just dump this chat protocol with a single click, I'd do that.

Which is a poor word, but you know what I mean.

But other than that, meh.

They wouldn’t much care for that.
It’s late for you. You probably would have more stamina for it by light of day after a good night’s rest.

I'd also get more attention on a workday.

Even better, you might not care so much about it by then. L)
True.

11:49 PM
@tchrist I wish. Won't happen.
It's hard enough to get your number up as is. I don't need people interfering with faux reviews.

Well, post it whenever you want, then do a nominal tweak-edit to bump it to the top come Monday.

Yeah I know the ins and outs.

Course.
You’re annoyed. I understand. Hazard of the job, and all.
It’s fine to vent. Helps clarify your mind for an actual bug report.

Nah I'm not that annoyed.

Gahd are we ever going to get the inaugurquestion typo-free?

11:53 PM
Or more precisely, I am more annoyed by the posting on MSO part.
Or generally, by the reporting part.

Still isn’t right. I must be blind.

Why don't bugs just post themselves?

Because there’s a bug.
Without that bug, the bug would post itself, but no longer have cause to do so.
Anybody know why FumbleFingers always edits Norton’s postings to have a giant ! at the top?
