9:00 AM
There's a whole lot missing there

What drive you to help people so much ?

@Disappointed the challenge :)

@Disappointed rep

@Disappointed I don't know. I'm some ways it helps to forget how sh*tty life is
And besides, it's always nice to help someone with something they couldn't solve

9:01 AM
It makes me feel better with myself

@IsmaelMiguel where exactly are you trying to match the lt / gt?
line number please :D

shitty life ? i didn't expect it

Sorry to leave you @Disappointed
3
@Vogel612 That would be a bunch of lines
Let me give you a list

into which class do you put them?
func, name, ḱeyword?

Lines 57 to 78 and 120 to 198
Nowhere
But all those lines handle the <

Isn't there a debugger for JS?

The problem is that, at some point, the &lt; is read as < and when I pass it to the <div> in the hidden element, it breaks

@jacwah There is, but it won't work on this one

@IsmaelMiguel How come?

diff: L130-134

9:08 AM
@Vogel612 Still breaks when you remove the space between &lt; a
@jacwah Usually those only help with small stuff, or things that are 'obvious'
This isn't that obvious

hrngh..

Why? How is it different from something like gdb?

@jacwah gdb?
@Vogel612 I've moved that block up
        {
            'class':'operator',
            'match': /\b(&[lg]t;|[<>\|=]+)\b/,
            'replace':window.highlight.default_replace
        },
This is the first block to match

@IsmaelMiguel The gnu debugger, the one I've used the most. But okay, the MSVC debugger?
IDK, any other debugger

I will give them a try

9:12 AM
I use them all the time

I will try them at lunch or at night

The one I said are for C though
Just wondering what's so different about JS

Oh
I don't know how to explain
Fixed!
It broke the string matching, but that's fixable

lol

But it works fine on comments

Q: IComparable implementation for a class representing a version

SeveSeveI have an UpdateId class which represents some kind of version (like AssemblyVersion). Actually, now it works fine for comments: jsfiddle.net/rfjtr6yy/3

@Liam I don't think this would fit on CodeReview, since it still has some example code in it. myFun1 and myFun2 will most likely trigger a close-vote for the same reason. Not to mention the foo, bar, getFoo and getBar. — Ismael Miguel 18 secs ago

There, a soft touch

@jacwah I was thinking about reopening it, the code does something so it is on topic

@IsmaelMiguel do you think we should re-open that quesion?

Yes, with a new title

I suggest Merging files in Ruby

@h.j.k. I didn't know you could write code outside of classes in Java. I thought it was OOP only

@Caridorc I can't read Ruby, so, I can't tell

10:33 AM
When looking closer, it is inside a class. OP just has horrendous formatting
3

@IsmaelMiguel i based myself on Nakilon's answer and the starting line merged_file = File.open("merge_out.txt", "w")

@Caridorc That is what other tries to use as a title, like how @Jamal and @Malachi did
He rolled back their edits

this is great, but what does it have to do with the question? should be more on code reviewMatt HB 38 secs ago

Doesn't that mean: Are there any edge-cases where it can fail, and if there are, how can I handle them?

Does your code work? If no then describe the problem and what it is doing. If the code does work then what is the problem? There are other sites (perhaps codereview.stackexchange.com) that may be more suitable. — AdrianHHH 10 secs ago

@rolfl Linq queries are very similar to SQL
It doesn't look broken, it's just insufficient, and the user posted with the words broken twice in the body

That's why I am asking ..... because I think people are misinterpreting the text.
@Morwenn - FYI - posts that are absolute crap like skldj; asekdfh a;skoiashdnv a;wehg, but are not spam, should be flagged as "Rude or Abusive" - it is considered abusing the system.
spam and abusive flags both have the effect of deelting the post after 6 flags, and -1-ing it at the same time. Spam also goes further and affects the spam management tools.

@rolfl It also causes a -100 rep penalty for the poster, if the post does collect 6 flags.

yup.....
I guess the point is that flagging for mod attention does nothing/little.

@rolfl Ok, I didn't know exactly what flag to use. Thanks :)

I figured, which is why I was pointing it out ;-)

Maybe I should have asked here first.

as it happens, the other abusive flags had already deleted the post, etc. but your flag was still outstanding.

12:32 PM
Strange.

Really, I am not complaining, the flag system is complex, and no-one knows how they all work, or when to use them (myself included), so when I can help educate, I do.

I just went on a StackApps shopping spree
My SE is much different, and hopefully more helpful

@rolfl while you are here ;-) I would like to ask instead of doing it, if I "flag for moderator" a chat message, is there a step between (a window for the type of flag) like if I flag a answer/question ?

yes.

thanks

12:39 PM
you can try it..... just don't hit "send".

Ok, I will use one of your messages ;-)

Note that the flag will be seen by all moderators on the exchange

@Mast well the code's purpose is to ...mock an IDE, no?

Don't you usually mock classes instead of entire IDEs?

@Mat'sMug I thought it was a great title
@Mast We also mock IDEs, like saying the PHP ide is wordpad
or 'Eclipse is fun'
haha, what a laugh

@Mast ok. I'm actuallly mocking the VBIDE API... which as far as Rubberduck is concerned, is the IDE

1:54 PM
API == IDE?

@CiaranGallagher, thanks, Just replied to your query on CodeReview. — Habib 45 secs ago

Rubberduck is an addin for the VBA IDE. The main showstopper for proper unit testing of most functionalities was the coupling with the VBIDE API, which exposes everything our addin is working with. From windows to toolbars and code panes. So yeah, in this case the API is that of an IDE. The VBIDE extensibility API.

Close enough indeed.

And who doesn't mock the VBE anyway

VB should be mocked extensively.

Q: Game tag - When to create own tag for games?

Simon André ForsbergI have just created the minesweeper tag and the rock-paper-scissors tag. The reasoning for this was: Rock Paper Scissors (Lizard Spock) is popular enough to deserve its own tag. (37 questions seem to be applicable for it) Minesweeper has seen some questions (posted by me) not directly related ...

@SimonAndréForsberg Thanks for the link

@SimonAndréForsberg congrats!

that's one day difference...
anyways TTQW

Is paying by logged hour (in JIRA for example) a common thing in industry?

@skiwi yes. very common.
On the places I've worked, I've often been asked about how long I worked for some things. In many cases I'm also asked to give a rough estimate on how many hours I expect something to take (I hate that part)

Okay ^^ What I've heard from friends/family who don't work in ICT, it's very uncommon in their fields

Quite impressively, I seem to have given quite accurate estimates.
It would have gone faster though if I weren't asked to estimate the time required in the first place ;)

Haven't been asked to estimate stuff... yet ;)
But I probably can estimate when I'll need to estimate

@Mat'sMug Thank you very much :D I appreciate your comment :D — ncomputers.org 16 hours ago

and yet.. he still has all his answers there

WHOOSH! /wears the mortarboard
finally :D

> election begins tomorrow
can't believe I have gathered >300 votes in the primaries

@Mat'sMug I don't think he has listened to any of our advice anyway.

I'm still unsure whether I like QML (styling language used in Qt) or CSS more
(Or rather... which one I hate most least)

5:31 PM
@Jamal he could get a badge for cleaning up that post. [badge:peer-pressure]

@SimonAndréForsberg I just make stuff up when they ask for estimates. Usually the default answer is t = t + 1 or z = z^2 + c if I am feeling particularly froggy.

I've found myself saying "six to eight weeks" once or twice...

@Mat'sMug me neither, I would have expected > 400

@Mat'sMug That's a perfect picture.

Is it just me or is CR down?

I don't get why people think that the timer for downloads and such is awful.

@SimonAndréForsberg I used the mandelbrot one on the president of the company, then I drew the formula on the board and the picture to go with it. Needless to say he doesn't ask me for much anymore. :)

@SimonAndréForsberg Nope. I just posted an answer, so it may be something on your end.

@SimonAndréForsberg Man... someone needs to be cutting their problem statements down!

@SimonAndréForsberg Must just be you, working fine for me.

5:33 PM
That someone is probably your project managers

@Mat'sMug Jamal and 200_success still have you beat on total votes, though.

@SimonAndréForsberg Works for me.

@SimonAndréForsberg Perhaps the localized server for you is down? If I recall correctly StackExchange is geo-location load-balanced.

I believe that only the image assets are on the CDN. The text itself comes straight from the central server.

Things like JavaScript and CSS are on the CDN too

5:37 PM
Of course.

@200_success That would make sense. (I don't do load-balancing or CDN as of late, the company I work for purposely has a single DC.)

it seems to be up again

This looks like a question for Code Review. Where they will probably point out that you've forgotten to do SQLConn.Dispose(). — Andrew Morton 36 secs ago

Q: Two downvotes on this questions without any explanation

CaridorcSome time ago a posted a simple Python script: Triangled printing. It contained an example of the desired output, worked and was in my opinion fully on-topic. It still got two down votes, so what was wrong with that? Were the down votes just miss-clicks or maybe the question was just plain boring...

@EBrown I intended to leave the bulk of it to Code Review where the merit of using a queue could also be discussed. — Andrew Morton 30 secs ago

@200_success resolved a doubt I had -> meta.codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/5686/… in less than a minute in Meta, I feel like I know who I'll vote for tomorrow :)

Q: Does return finishes a function on Python?

piguiliguiI'm learning on codeacademy and I was trying to print the following: def trip_cost(p, d, m): return rental_car_cost(d) + hotel_cost(d) + plane_ride_cost(p) + m print "%s to %s for %s days with an extra %s dollars of spending mone" (trip_cost(p, d, m), p, d, m) The porgram was telling me nothin...

@Caridorc just remember that you have three choices!

@SimonAndréForsberg I suppose it's out of the question to use all three on the same person?

yeah, that doesn't work in the StackSTV system.

Nope, it's first choice, second choice, and third choice.

5:57 PM
Besides, doing so would be pointless considering how the STV system works.

@EBrown Just do a First Choice, if you want that to happen.
But, it won't help them any.

exactly ^^

@SimonAndréForsberg Darn...if I could only vote me me me 51%. (Mr. Deeds reference.)

Your first choice candidate keeps all of your vote until they are elected (or removed).
Only then does the vote start getting shifted to 2nd and 3rd choice candidates.

@Hosch250 It was largely a joke, I would never vote for just one person. It's unfair that way. There's a reason we get to vote for three people.

5:59 PM
I've read up quite a bit about the STV system, even implemented it myself and my suggestion is: Use all three choices. You have nothing to lose. The STV system is really clever.

@Caridorc Moderators get paged whenever a question is posted on Meta, so I had a head start.
