5:00 PM
what is so interesting about it?

@ton.yeung Body parts generate fatigue, MOVE parts reduce fatigue
Swamp generates 5 fatigue per body part, soil 2, road 1
You can only move if your fatigue is <=0

@ton.yeung What do you mean?
How is it visually displayed on the map?

@Armin oh cool might try that
a detector module?

5:04 PM
@ton.yeung You would need to lookAt the x,y coordinates you are on (or are aiming for) and look at the property that tells you the type of terrain
So you do something like
const pos = myCreep.pos;
const terrainAtPos = pos.look(pos).find(p => p.type === 'terrain');
Or something like that
@ton.yeung Not really

wow, the introduction of the first participant in the game jam is some lgbtq+ guy(?)...
nice...

The type of map/coordinate system doesn't matter
All you need to do is have a mapping function from the pixel coordinate system to yours

@ton.yeung A* pathfinding algo should be able to account for that
You just need to find a way to represent your map as a graph of nodes
The coordinate system, bottom line, shouldn't matter.

@ton I was jsut about to ask what kinda game you wanna make and the details
not yet
I've seen grimgar and konosuba tho

5:11 PM
@ton.yeung Haven't
Is it good?
@ton.yeung Not at all, feel free

:p
wiki has so much text that doesn't all relate to what you mean
I'd have to watch it then to understand what you mean
it'd be cool if you explained sometime

5:24 PM
reading some bad cons for Slack and Discord both like no search or no free private chats, limited chat history, hidden limits for free users (not sure about either)
I'd like to find some collab chat with all the good features but according to Slant, none have all for free
(ok how did I end up wondering about team chats?)

communicate via git xD
git commit --allow-empty -m "$MESSAGE"
that is practically a chat in git xD

oh yeah, after commit a push

idk if that's all the games they've had posted or just the staff picks
first of all I wanna figure out what kind of "game" they expect to receive in 1-2 days
or in 1-2 weeks as it is in this jam

Q: Why Does Midorima's nails influence his shots?

blake harrisonakerzIn one of the episodes of Kuroko no basket, Midorima said that his shots depend on his nails, why do his shots depend on his nails?

5:32 PM
@Hakase you can take a look at quill18. he has some livestreams in which he programmed a game in 24h

link pls

looking for one xD

and I'm gonna have to look at all the other game jams too
man have I found stuff to do >.<

@Hakase well, i didn't find the streams anymore, but i found the results ludumdare.com/compo/author/quill18
found the streams

is this our @Quill or what?

5:42 PM
i don't think so...
quill18 is a youtuber and streamer
if our quill is youtuber and streamer, then they could be the same person...

why quill18 specifically?
> Audio for portions of this video has been muted as it appears to contain copyrighted content owned or controlled by a third party.
lol he doesn't look like he's 18 years old

maybe he was born in 1918 xD

ok I know what I would do and it would take a lot of time so I don't wanna do it now
@Armin tell me what would you do?

@Hakase i don't know... bullet hail?

5:49 PM
:/
I don't think I've ever had fun with that genre

side scrolling beat'em up?

ok I could see that going
how do you think you'd start it? what would it look like at the end?

well, since i can't draw even if my life depended on it (including rl drawing as well as with computers), i can't tell you what it would look like...

I mean as in game mechanics

maybe something in the old school department...

5:52 PM
idk much at all about side-view beat em ups

like double dragon or that japanese snes game with school boys beating everyone up
forgot its name

well, no idea about how they should feel since I've never had much fun playing them
but I guess I could code one up, not that it would be fun or interesting for me

Shin Nekketsu Kouha Kunio tachi no Banka

oh man those screenshots

or something funny like hobo 1- i don't know (at least 4)
if you don't like the genre, then maybe something like a top down shooter
like gta 1 and 2

5:57 PM
I don't like that either but I've heard one guy in the game dev chatroom was very fond of old GTAs
most others there were not showing any willingness to work with others though
and the GTA guy said he doesn't trust anyone
it's a tough crowd

then a racing game
like good ol' f-zero
for the snes

I'm not a fan of that genre either

jump and run?

eh… too basic but possible
(ok what is the purpose of this jam thing again?)
to learn stuff?
learn tools?
I don't think it's reasonable to expect to learn game design stuff
just how to implement game ideas in certain engines/frameworks/libraries
and under tight time constraints

yeah, i think that is probably what you learn
same with hackathons

6:02 PM
idk if that's the kind of collab I'm looking for then
I prefer spending a lot of time on research and then making something well
not just hack up some stuff and hope it doesn't crash

well, i don't think making something in 2 weeks includes "lots of research"

I get that it sorta kinda teaches you how to code quicker, but I think that's not a skill I want to invest a lot of time in

at least not in the beginning
later on, surely, when you know what you are doing

I think this 2 weeks means it's for complete noobs so they could make at least something using Game Maker or RPG Makers
but the problem is I think I'm aware of what I'm doing and this is not what I want

probably, or something more advanced like unity

6:04 PM

ok, i'm downloading rider now...
if i can work somewhat with it, we can try to make a cross-platform engine
xD

making a cross-platform engine is gonna be a difficult endeavour
better make a cross-platform game on a ready engine
if you want to use unity, just look up what IDEs it comes with for linux

only monodevelop

there has to be a way to use other IDEs

and that is really bad if you like ides like idea or vs
since rider is not yet released, no

6:07 PM
I've read it's possible to use vs at least on windows

i tried it once

and the guys in gamedev said so

yeah, but vs is windows only and i tried it once i a vm and it was horrible

well, idk then
look you wouldn't have these kinds of problems if you didn't hold on so much to linux

well, or you have to look for someone else xD
CryEngine is a game engine designed by the German game developer Crytek. It has been used in all of their titles with the initial version being used in Far Cry, and continues to be updated to support new consoles and hardware for their games. It has also been used for many third-party games under Crytek's licensing scheme, including Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 and SNOW. Cloud Imperium Games use a modified version of the engine for the games Star Citizen and Squadron 42. Warhorse Studios use a modified version of the engine for medieval RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Ubisoft maintains an in-house, heavily...
OpenSimulator is an open-source server platform for hosting virtual worlds and the Metaverse. It is compatible with the client for Second Life and can host alternative worlds with differing feature sets with multiple protocols. == Features == OpenSimulator is written in C# and is designed to be easily expanded through the use of plugin modules. OpenSimulator can operate in one of two modes: standalone or grid mode. In standalone mode, a single process handles the entire simulation. In grid mode, various aspects of the simulation are separated among multiple processes, which can exist on different...

6:09 PM
nah I'm just trying to figure out what others would do

those three and unity use c# and work on linux

as a way of figuring out what it is that I want by comparison
I don't mean to drag you into my team and make you use and do what I want
that would be against the game jam spirit
or whatever that spirit is, idk

i'm currently downloading unity as well...
that is the power of arch linux
one command and you get unity installed
pacaur -S unity-editor

idk anything about linux or commands
I wouldn't understand what you're saying

pacaur is a certain package manager that also uses the arch user repository (aur)
-S is the flag for installing
unity-editor is the name of the package
the normal arch linux package manager is called pacman
which is the coolest package manager name ever

6:15 PM
idk man I just google stuff, click download and install

well, the nice thing about package managers is that they also install dependencies
there's some obscure c-library that is needed? no problem, will be installed with the package itself

installers usually do that too unless they're insane and hate their ratings

or you want to install tomcat but have no java? here, choose between oracle and open jdk and the one you chose will be installed

ah man I just don't have those troubles

yeah, windows only has oracle -.-

6:19 PM
visual studio has a GUI for nuget to install dependencies automatically

yeah, but that is something different
but it goes in the right direction
nuget is more like ant, maven, npm, and don't know what else

I don't deal with that stuff at all so I wouldn't know
k time to go make some food
good luck with rider and jamming

thx
i would only help you, i normally would have enough private projects could continue working on xD

1 hour later…
7:44 PM
there is one cool thing about kabaneri tho: that part at the beginning of the OP

8:03 PM
i.imgur.com/Ty3r7ya.gifv but there is a way out of this bullshit - just display:none it in stylish

8:18 PM
started to watch Kakumeiki Valvrave
2nd ep, not bad

store.steampowered.com/app/452970 there are good words about this game, I just heard about its existence

Q: Dark Kamehameha?

HikariI was curious about the use of the dark kamehameha. So far I know that color pigment to an energy move doesn't really matter and in most cases in DBZ it's a bit of a design trope to signify the uniqueness of that move to that character. Black & Mira(from Dragon Ball XV the game) are the only tw...

8:50 PM
bioshock 1 and 2 get remastered as part of Bioshock collection, releases september 13

Q: Why did ReLIFE release all his 13 episodes in one day?

Eti2d1It's the first time I've ever seen an anime series who's released all his episodes in one day and not one episode every week as it is normally. Is there a reason behind this unique act and are there any other episodes who're going to be released in the future?

11:17 PM
@ton.yeung what, kabaneri?
oooooooo
lol I was over here looking at project gaia, the clean cooking stove >___>
trying to find the connection
smh
